meh
A squad of boy scouts would be more intimidating than a squad of women.
>nothing is working!
>slowly just attempting different variables to see if ANYTHING can work
its not that complex
Right, SOP, whenever a military engagement fails they have no other choice but to send in the women, it’s the only thing that makes sense.
>military engagement
this is your failure, its a science experiment, IE trying out variables
>Military engagement
You didn't watch the movie, right?
>tylenol isn't relieving my headache
>I know, let's try cyanide to see if it works better instead
more like
>my bullets arent penetrating
>try a knife!
>you moron, bullets are always superior to knives!
literally you
>bullets aren't always superior to knife
being moronic to own the chuds
I strongly suspect Vandermeer went with the all woman team in the book because he was looking to sell the movie rights.
What if the aliens attack men because they are more threatening?
>hardened marines couldn't survive in the zone
>I know, let's send in some fricking women instead
>the stupid femoids fell apart due to infighting not even halfway through
unintentionally based
Wasn't ti more than they lost all contact with the teams sent before? Although they are still being moronic, they could just tie ropes to people and retract them.
This. It's like a realisistic all female cast version of 'Predator'.
they didn't send women, they sent scientists. When your chuddness prevents you from enjoying a film, lol
No, this is what a scientist looks like and none of them looked like this.
It was very mid with a stupid plot
I'm starting to see Garland is really a moments guy. Every movie I've seen of his has a few really memorable moments, but I don't really like the films that much.
Color out of space, but with chicks, and not as good.
It's nothing like Color out of Space.
it's the same kind of interdimensional being that naturally/instinctually mimics other beings in terrifying ways but is essentially has no feeling, no want, no need, it just is, this is just what it does
Intriguing
I liked it. I watched it with an old friend and entire movie he kept talking about how fricking stupid it was to have this team of chicks go in here. He didn't care for it.
Better than Stalker
>women are incompetent and self-destructive creatures
>good score
>neat flora and fauna designs
would’ve liked to see more whacky fungal blooms but it was a solid 7/10
Yeah, I liked it too.
A solid soundtrack, too, which is always a kino enhancer.
I would have loved to see more freaky chimeric monsters besides the bear (which wasn't much to write home about either).
But it's extremely visually creative overall, and it stays with you for a good bit.
I agree with the solid 7/10.
Bad movie from a bad director.
None of this movie can be taken literally. It is 100% an aesthetics / atmosphere movie. The plot is irrelevant compared to what you feel watching it, which is why it is so divisive (and also makes it an amazing 'jeet filter).
it is a movie more about its themes than its plot and characters, which i personally like, but it seems like a lot of anons here dont
Cool ideas, some cool visuals, but for a "smart" movie, it doesn't do very well when you stop to think about it. No idea how faithfully it adapted the novels it was based on.
>No idea how faithfully it adapted the novels it was based on.
Very poorly. The movie is only loosely based on the books
The jump cut to an interracial sex scene just for shock value put me in a bad mood for the rest of the film and pretty much ruined it for me. I was looking forward to it as well too.
Agreed. Although, I will give the film credit for portraying the interracial relationship as an expression of mental illness and self hatred. Doesn't redeem it, but at least it didn't feel as propagandized as your usual on screen Black person romance. Was nice to see it instead in the light of "women that do this hate themselves and are practicing self destruction".
It's good for what it is, a sci-fi odyssey. Natalie Portman manages to not be annoying. I'll never like the female "squad" trope, because it is so dumb. But the women in this were good and the dynamics were not grating.
The last thirty minutes with the entity were bad though.
it feels like it was written by a middle schooler
>advanced college medicine class
>lecturer explaining cell division and cancer, literally grade school shit
>secret government black site
>all the handlers and employees are incompetent dickheads "you won't be getting a lawyer lol. we're evil btw"
>group of women
>woah, they're all sooo deep and hurt. that one even has self-harm scars. it's like, a metaphor bro
movie only became watchable once 3/5ths of the cast died
It's shit and the general Cinemaphile consensus at the time of release was that it was shit. Also hershlag cucking isaacs with a nignog was used to great effect for the shit-posting.
Tl;dr ITS SHIT.
it's really cool but couple annoyances
>she's cheating on her husband
just why does this need to be a thing?
>all female squadron
why? wouldn't it make more sense if it were mixed? "just four of us wanna go in and we all just happen to have ovaries"
what? why?
Her cheating was cancer, uncontrolled growth (from partners to additional participants), and led to both of them attempting self destruction
It’s presented as very negative and in line with the theme of the Zone
it also shows her trait of self destruction, at one point the affair partner asks her to be with him legit, but she declines hard, showing that she is only interested in destruction. ex machina is about self preservation, annihilation is about selft destruction.
>see they go hand in hand
i mean, i'm not trying to be a dick, but so what? didn't really add anything to the movie
>themes dont matter!
Can you honestly say you got anything out of the movie on an intellectual level? Okay so it is theoretically a metaphor for self-destruction... and? What food for thought does the movie give us on this topic?
The cancer would make sense if she had a series of affairs, or a works her way up to a gangbang
the all-female squad made a lot of sense
think about it - some unknown alien shit appears, so the first thing they do is send some tough guy soldiers in
they never come back, so more soldiers are sent in, and those fail as well
so they change the approach and send female scientists instead, basically the polar opposite of the manly soldiers - it makes sense thematically, even uses traditional gender characteristics (strong and aggressive men, gentle and caring women)
it also makes sense that they all have mental issues - it's basically a suicide mission, they're expected to die and they know it
a soldier is supposed to risk his life, but a scientist isn't, so it makes sense that only people who don't mind dying would agree to this
all of that got me interested and I had quite high hopes for this movie, I expected some intelligent sci-fi
but it turned out to be trash, I was very disappointed
the scene of hershlag cheating on her husband with a Black person didn't help either
>intelligent sci-fi
>in movie form
Has never happened, the concepts have to be dumbed down too much and the writers aren’t intelligent enough
Literally just got done watching it ten minutes ago. Thought it sucked, completely empty and pointless, way too in love with its gay aesthetic to be bothered with substance.
Great movie, focuses on thematics which filters morons wanting "the message" and everything to be literal like this moron
lol
Garland is a hack, his movies are always moronic
should be watched back to back with Under the Skin
I liked it better when it was called stalker
I liked it better when it was called Roadside Picnic, you fricking poser
Oh no PS3 cutscene bear creatures and shiny video game aliens. Frick outta here with this shit bring back practical effects. I already own a PS4 and if I wanted a 2deep4u tryhard game id just turn that on. Its tiresome and those aliens looked like SHIT for the final reveal they built up over 90 minutes.
good movie, great concept and themes.
I thought you guys were meming but I'm rewatching it right now on Pluto TV and what the frick there really is a 6 second BLACKED cuck scene in the middle of the movie completely out of context. I must have blocked it out when I first watched it.
Very subversive
I don't know I fell asleepd
The books were better and quite different but it was pretty fresh. Also the manbear was straight up lifted from Book of the New Sun.
It's not too bad; the bear scene is objectively good horrorkino. I don't understand why there were random flashback scenes of Natalie Hershlag sucking on a BLACK guy
I really liked it. The BLACKED scenes were unnecessary tho.
Makes no sense. Why would you walk overland to get to a lighthouse? Just go along the coast in a boat. Sure, you can invent some plot reason where it would be dangerous either way. But going by boat would be so much much faster, far less opportunity for things to go to shit.
Oh, and the crucial thing: Just don't make it a lighthouse and this plothole, yes plothole, goes away. It could've been a tv tower or literally anything.
They really missed out on including THE most memorable part/plot device of the first book: the tower.
They conglomerated it with the lighthouse but it took up, what, 10 or so minutes at the very end?
The tower, which has an initial exploration early in the book and a finale at the end is one of the coolest and unnerving things I've read in any sci-fi book and I'm glad I watched the movie before reading the trilogy or else i'd be piss at its absence.
>or else i'd be piss at its absence
BART I'M PISS GET OUT
Deepest movie I've ever scene. Find me a better exploration of trauma. You can't.
I enjoyed the last 15 or so minutes but I was pretty unimpressed throughout the rest of it
The duality of man
Movie had a lot of promise but the third act flopped. Instead of story resolution we get some Kubrickesque light show.
It's a pretty good movie but I can't figure out why they needed the scene of the wife in bed with a black man who wasn't her husband
This anon
has it figured out
no, actually the interracial sex scene is where the movie title comes from. Her pussy got annihilated
why is milf natalie so sexy
isn't every version ?
unwatchable. turned off at some extended scene of two women talking in a room. the stuff before that had been no better
Natalie Hershlag getting blacked was pretty hot, ngl
It's kino, but you have to not be a chud.
It's a near perfect movie.
Appeared to be a show about women talking and nagging each other. I turned it off after a few minutes of shrill pointless dialogue.
An interesting premise and decent characters. I don't know if it quite delivered on what it was trying to do, but I appreciated it for what it was. I really enjoyed how everything was both horrific and beautiful and I wish it had been more of that and less of dumb b***hes being dumb b***hes. The ending was ok, but felt a little too predictable for how the rest of the film went. It's one of the few movies I rewatch from time to time, but I don't think I'd recommend it to anybody unless I know for a fact they would like it.
came for the female 2016 tier ghost busters sci fi slop, stayed for the BLACKED cuck scene
why are you c**ts still shilling this abortion of a movie?
I just watched this yesterday because I found out warframe directly copied it. Extremely mid movie, DE did it better.
Reminder that the BLACKED scene was a movie-only thing. In the book the biologist never cheats on her husband, their marriage has just been falling apart due to her femcel tendencies
