My only problem is how they really made Nolan irredeemable because it's going to make redeeming him even harder assuming they actually do. I like the characters in the show more than the comics.

the cartoon is a pretty good adaptation of the comics, except for Amber, everything else is pretty much how it happened, though they rearrange some events for more suspense.

The comic is alright, but it does just turn into a dragon ball gore fest later on, and time skips get fricking annoying.

      >everything else is pretty much how it happened, though they rearrange some events for more suspense.
This is why the show is so much better, they made Nolan and Mark's relationship the dramatic core of the story. In the comic, Nolan's betrayal and his confrontation with Mark happens so quickly you'd think Kirkman wrote that twist just as shock value meant to bait sales.

In the comic a lot of things feel rushed/underdeveloped. The cartoon has significantly better pacing. It's just flat out superior in so many ways there's really no reason to read the comic.

Comic is overall OK. Starts pretty good if you're fine with some high school drama and some characters being nitwits, then Murderman shows you how he got his name, then he shows everyone what a giant literal gay he is, then things start getting really stupid and disjointed, there's a soft retcon somewhere there, and then it continues being stupid and a little less disjointed towards a not satisfying ending. There are a couple of points where you want to drop it out of boredom and you need to roll your eyes lots, but at no point do you want to physically hurt the author (just call him a hack or a dumbass) and that makes the comic good by today's standards.

Its alright if you're mature enough to handle all the edgy shit and not from an adult perspective but the content and ideas they're trying to share, it's just some realism of life and death with blood/guts/gore. I know its try hard sometimes but at least they're trying to give some real effort into showing the stakes of life and death when super powers are a thing and every individual organism is flawed and carries different values of good/bad/obedient.

With this and Cyberpunk I'd like to see a cartoon adaption of WANTED since they love this edgy style animated drama at Netflix now, WANTED would fit into this category nicely I think..

TWD suffers from the same problem Invincible does in that it needed to end earlier than it did. TWD had a perfectly good ending point with the conclusion of the Saviors arc, but like a zombie it just kept lingering on. Invincible likewise went on a few too many tangents like Dinosaurus and the Reboot/time skip that turned it into a slog in its latter half

It was decent as edgy popcorn entertainent but falls apart completely when the Viltrumite Empire is introduced. Genociding half of your own people for the sake of "strengthening the bloodline" is a concept so completely moronic that only a leftist manchild would be stupid enough to write with a straight face.

In the comic, it's later revealed there was a whole civil war between the Viltrumites over the direction the empire should go. I got the impression that the "only the strongest remained" part of Nolan's story was propaganda over the fact that the imperial faction won.

That’s just one version of the events - there’s a lot of deliberate misinformation and unreliable narration with regards to the history of the Viltrumite Empire. In some versions the purge takes place before Argall’s assassination, in others it’s the catalyst for it, in some it was thoughtfully planned, in others it was just unmitigated violence, etc.

Kirkman leaves it deliberately vague whether the Viltrumites deliberately set out to wipe out half their population or if it was just the result of civil war and the version we get now is what the survivors tell themselves to make it into a noble pursuit instead of a clusterfrick.

Plot was idiotic and most characters stupid. Quality of work is, and I'm putting this lightly, extremely inconsistent, often accompanied by super cheap or lazy close up shots. There are some pretty good action scenes, like that fight against space kraken or wathever it was and finale with omniman. Mark seems as fine, although paradoxically for a subversion work, generic protagonist. Omni man stopped being interesting when it turned out that he wasn't a petty egotistic nihilist that was all for himself but some space nazi from unrealistic society of violent morons. Simmons was great, rest of the voice actors did fine enough work. No, I haven't read the comics.

Gratuitous race swapping that doesn't make sense based on how Viltrumite DNA works

If they were so committed to making Mark Asian because his VA is, Omni-Man should have been Asian too because his DNA is so compatible with and dominant over human DNA that Mark hardly manifests any of his mother's

That's why other interspecies-Viltrumite hybrids look more different

Nah, I completely get Mark being willing to live with all the shit that didn’t turn out great and the mistakes he made if it meant keeping his daughter in the universe.

The whole reboot thing made for a cute what-if, but it was basically the worst way to excuse the time skip. If Kirkman was really determined to have the skip it would have gone a lot better if he just had Mark and Eve staying together and raising Terra during the interim.

It just reminds me of those weird "not marvel/DC" start up series we got way too many of in the 90s like Young Blood and the Ultraverse. It's similarly edgy and blunt but it's not particularly subversive and doesn't really have anything new to say. It doesn't really stand out in any particular way to me and I'm surprised the comic ever took off in the first place.

probably one of the best superhero stories out there, and it still sucks ass and is boring tedious "and then this happened" nonsense. Watchmen is technically more 'meaningful' and deeper story but it's not actually a superhero story, there are no powers but Manhattan and that exception is explored through how nonsensical, truly alienating and world shattering such powers would be. I think Watchmen is slightly overrated but Moore is trying to deconstruct and use actual storytelling and concept themes with complex characters to tell a story that's actually not about superheroes at all but the weird fetishes and fashions of an alternative universe.
Wolfman is a hack. He's a decent pulp hack and his two big hits are fun and entertaining. I think maybe a few Kirby stories are 'better' than Invincible but these are limited while the Invincible book is long as balls and is all contained somehow (decently between some poor arcs and cringe nonsense that goes no where) much like Walking Dead. But they both have the same problem: good for soap opera, good for superhero nonsense which is more idiotic and colorful soap opera for babies, but outside of that traditiion, the story still FRICKING SUCKS where nothing MEANINGFUL happens and you don't give a FRICK about the soon-to-die named characters that only mattered vaguely for a moment or two and isn't it sad they're dead, moving on!
Wolfman is a SHITTY writer, but he's decent and giving the idiot babies their capesludge swill.

Invincible's ending is a nice conclusion to Mark's story and arc but it does leave the setting with weird implications. Basically Mark's Viltrumite Empire strong-arms various governments and races throughout the galaxy into settling for peace and disarming, he even forcefully disbands the Coalition for simply becoming too big and urbanized.
