Seriously you would think "adult" in adult animation mean sex appeal but even the sexy characters are ugly

This is one for me too.
Kid shows look and feel so creative and energetic, even nowadays in the age of beanmouth, but shows for adults are just... flat, stiff, making bad and obvious commentary

What do you wish you could see more of in adult cartons, Cinemaphile? A lot of people complain about the current formula of "nuclear family in the suburbs where the dad is dumb and the mom is a nag"

Honestly, just take the filter off kids shows so that swearing, referencing real world things, and acknowledging death and sex (but not basing the entire "comedy" around the fact it exists in a cartoon), and you already have a formula to make them work.
That I think is the issue: adult shows are often based around having swearing and sex stuff, and yeah, that does make something more mature. The problem is cartoons run with that because "THIS IS A CARTOON!!! BUT THESE CARTOON CHARACTERS ARE SAYING.... FRICK!!!!! ISN'T THAT SOOOOO COOL?! CARTOON CHARACTERS SHOULDN'T DO THAT!!!"
If the average adult cartoon, especially something like Helluva Boss, were live action, we'd call it out as being the juvenile tryhard crap it really is.

Better art and animation, that's pretty much it. I noticed adult animation IS finally moving away from sitcoms lately and getting more experimental, the only issue is they all look so fricking bland or worse straight up ugly that even if the plot is actually good I just don't want to look at it.

I wish there were more episodes of hot females bound and gagged. Lois and Meg alone are hot, but I'm lucky to see them tied up once every few years. Meanwhile, Bart keeps getting the good shit while the only hot woman in the Simpsons that's both reoccurring and still alive has already been straitjacketed so it's unlikely she will ever get a treatment again, full or otherwise.

We hardly get those anymore. And when we do, people don't even complain about them; they just ignore them entirely. You're more likely to find workplace comedies than family sitcoms now.

that formula is the basic live action sitcom but in animated form.

I suppose there arent that many cartoons about single people. were is the cartoon Seinfeld, or friends.

also there should be more exploration of genre. what about mystery, horror, adventure, not everything has to be a comedy

anons here's my adult sitcom pitch
    >Four friends/roommates
    > They are terrible people and mean to everyone except the four of them
    > They care deeply for each other in a platonic way
    > Three guys and one girl
    >no sex or dirty jokes in the first two episodes
    >making fun of the internet things like fandoms and streamers and social media trends
    > All of them are the worst kind of people(at least how most people label them): an Antinatalist, a proud gun owner(the girl), an alpha male, and a vegan but at the end of the show, you will root for them
    > The jokes are mostly dark jokes and low-hanging fruits
    > Basically "It's always sunny in Philadelphia" but worse

what do you think? ik it will never work kek

Shows are a lost cause. I want more adult animated movies with high-quality acting and writing. More than that, though, I just want them to actually represent adult situations and stakes. If the average sugar-addled child (or manchild) can watch this film and understand what's on-screen, then it's too juvenile. Gatekeep immature low-IQ audiences.

The problem has always been that when the word cartoon gets thrown in that it means the show and all it's characters need to be off the wall crazy and annoying. To me this is why King of the Hill is the best animated adult comedy of all time. It understands that just because it's a cartoon that it doesn't need to be some crazy cokey world and have all the characters act like annoying morons or have some over the too, ugly art style. It's a grounded show that understands that animation can connect to a deeper level by looking more realistic and appeling and that you can use visuals to empathize seep emotions and feelings better, and even comedy by being more subtle about it.

I think this is also why slice of life anime has become ao popular because most of the creators understand these concepts while America is still set in the 1940s.

Not comedy. Animation is great for anything not taking place in the real world and with a bit of action, yet nearly every goddamn adult cartoon is a comedy set in the modern world. And most aren't even that funny. I can get lukewarm humor literally everywhere. Just fricking do something with the medium for a change goddamnit.

I have no problem with adult cartoons primarily being comedies, I just don't want any more family shitcoms. It's not the 2000s anymore. People want more out of television, including animation.

I'd also like for the successful ones to know when to bow out and remain beloved in our eyes. Bob's Burgers and Futurama do NOT need 20 seasons.

I watched the first two chapters and my biggest gripe is how they obviously wanted to write a "not like the other girls" character but they still wrote her with the confinements of a woman
Elfo HAS to have a crush on her, and she isn't allowed to actually get hurt in fights and somehow dodges every punch. written like a kid

I read a manga once about 2 newly divorced single parents tricked into buying the same house that move in together out of desperation.

It was a pure simple romantic dramedy about them learning to live together. It didn't focus on ugly unlikeable buttholes, hyper violence, or stoner humor. It was just normal people dealing with normal ass complications of life.

Why in the love of frick can we not get this sort of shit in cartoon form?
