I guess? It kinda already has it's own cult. Then again I haven't seen something start garnering that sort of reputation in ages, I think the fastpaced nature of media changing and being replaced nowadays, among other things, is killing passion and dedication, love is weaker for things when they're common and there's no incentive to be passionate about them for long.
Luckily this site still exists as a hub for grassroots fandom discussion. (Except for that shitty dutch anime, that was mostly astroturfed.)

A cult classic is something that flies under the radar or even flops at first, but gains a small but devoted following later on. Sometimes the following gets large enough that it's not really a cult classic any more, but is still often referred to as such because it was one for so long.
