There's some decent metacommentary in 0080 and Turn A but for all intents and purposes Gundam ends at CCA.

The really popular subsequent Gundam shows are simply slightly divergent repackages of first gundam for the next generations.
I haven't read Origin but I've read Arion, Jesus, and Venus Wars. Yas is a mistake. He can't write worth a damn. He can only draw and paint.

the whole newtype thing is the tragedy of people who have basically evolved to have superhuman psychic empathy but they're also good at knowing where to aim and dogde lasers because of it so they are just turned into super soldiers.
I just think it's really stupid to have a love triangle that is never resolved properly. Sure there's the whole "who would she have chose if she lived" but then Amuro straight up murdered her so it's a moot point. Char is right to hate Amuro

Stardust/0083 isn't alternature universe. There's basically 4 "tiers" of gundam continity now
UC Main timeline (in roughly in-universe chronological order and I'll probably forget lots of shit): IGLOO, MSG, 08th MS, 0080, 0083, Zeta, ZZ, CCA, Unicorn, Hathaway, F91, Victory, G-Savior
UC AU (shit that is in the "UC" universe but directly contradicts the mainline so they're sort of their own thing): Origin, hunderbolt
AU that is maybe kinda sorta the far future of UC but really has very little to do with it: Reconguista, Turn-A
AU that is in completely independent continuities that have nothing to do with UC: Everything else

G-Gundam was kino and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. I also don't know why but despite them being somewhere similar mechanically (DBZ robots) Gundam Wing was always bad to me. I have no problem with the non-action parts and various subplots in any of the other series but something about the W characters made me say "shut your goofy ass up" every time they talked and then skip to the fights which were alright.
X is the only good AU. If you want non-UC Gundam, watch that.
0080 is the only good non-Tomino UC Gundam.
Besides these two, you can also watch Victory and Turn A. Turn A is easily the best entry in the franchise.
If you're desperate for more UC content and you don't really care about quality and just want fan service, watch 0083, Origin, and Unicorn.
But that's basically all there is that's even remotely worth watching. Ignore anyone who tells you to watch garbage like 8th MS Team, IBO, Wing, the currently airing Gundam tranime, or any of that trash. These people are beyond salvation.

the main-main core of UC Gundam directed by Tomino is MSG-Zeta-ZZ-CCA (F91 and Victory are also Tomino but they're "late UC" ie after a substantial time gap when the core Federation vs Zeon conflict of the rest of the UC timeline is over) Watch those four, and even then you might get away with skipping ZZ if you really hate it, and you can pretty much watch the rest in any order and understand what's going on.
Is everyone in agreeement? This is why I hate legacy shows. They get several different answers to one question.

Been like forty fricking years since the original Mobile Suit Gundam. No one has done a good 08th MS team show from the Zeon perspective. The Origin gets shit on way too much by /m/.
