He went from being the protagonist of the franchise, prophetized to be greater than all of the lanterns, and now is consistently sidelined and forgotten about. Not only in favor of Hal, but also John, Jessica and Guy.

I don't read the comics so idk how good he is there. But he comes off as a jobber in the justice league movies.
I think he has the same problem as Tim Drake, he existed for a specific reason, but now it's kinda hard to justify his existence.
People lost interest in his book by the early '00's and Didio was going to Emerald Twilight him to drum up sales but Johns stopped him. I think people also came to realize that taking away the entire GL Corps to force Kyle as the only GL was a huge mistake.
This. Also there's this misconception that Kyle was popular. He wasn't. He didn't take the book to new heights of popularity and if not for Waid/Morrison Justice League I'm not sure he'd have half the fans he has today. Kyle isn't Wally West. Wally had multiple popular runs from writers who are now industry legends, he earned his place as The Flash. Kyle never reached those heights. Winnick's run is also garbage and really hurt his overall brand moving forward.
All the talk about how DC neglects Kyle is hilarious, I'm sure all those Kyle fans sure didn't mind how neglected John and Guy were during his tenure.
Kyle was also given a lot of chances after Hal returned. He had Ion, he co-lead GLC alongside Guy, then he had his own New52 series with Green Lanterns: New Guardians.
DC died.
He was created as updated replacement Hal, so when Hal was brought back and then updated he lost the reason to exist.
DC comics stopped pushing him.
If Gunn decided to use him for a film, then DC Comics would be shilling the heck out of him (Just look at Damian Wayne. James Gunn saved him from losing his mantle name and being tossed onto a random magic team).
But when DC Comics stop pushing a character, they fall to the wayside. Happens with a lot of Green Lanterns especially.
Atleast lanterngays aren't as bad as Wondergays.
>He went from being the protagonist of the franchise, prophetized to be greater than all of the lanterns, and now is consistently sidelined and forgotten about. Not only in favor of Hal, but also John, Jessica and Guy.
That's a result of DC cutting down on the GLC and writers not having Geoff's chops to lay down stories that built up the Lanterns. Still, what Geoff laid down is a hundred times better than what his predecessors laid down for Kyle. Yeah Hal is the greatest Green Lantern of all time, but Kyle is the greatest Lantern of all time, and no shitter will ever take that from him.
Geoff
Was respectful towards Kyle.
He brought back Hal
And? Kyle needed Hal more than Hal needed Kyle.
Do I have to spell it out? By needlessly bringing Hal back and making him good again, he shifted Kyle out of the spotlight. Geoff and his run ruined Green Lantern as a whole.
Kyle's 90s run as the GL was already ruined by editors who didn't know worked about GL.
GL had been fricking shit since the 80s. Johns run reinvigorated and saved the entire franchise.
>GL had been fricking shit since the 80s.
I remember the art they had for GL was awesome but it was held back because they never did anything with the concept of the GLC and continued to write it like it was still a silver age comic. Sure there was the GL/GA run but that run sucked because it was O'Neil and Adams making Hal the butt of the joke.
>By needlessly bringing Hal back and making him good again, he shifted Kyle out of the spotlight.
but Kyle needing every single Gl to be dead to work is fair? Ntm Kyle's run was doing well before Johns showed up.
And stopped them from making Kyle a villain in the process. And established Kyle was the greatest Lantern overall.
Didn't Johns make Parallax Kyle a plot point in SC War? He didn't go full Emerald Twilight but I feel like he wanted to.
>Didn't Johns make Parallax Kyle a plot point in SC War?
Originally it was supposed to have been Guy and John possessed, but realized it worked better with Kyle.
And? DC wanted to kill Kyle and Johns declined doing so.
And then he made Kyle into space Jesus twice with making him Ion again and White Lantern.
is right. Kyle did just fine for a little while but he was no Wally. Then Marz started to run out of juice in the last couple years on the title, and Winick was a god awful replacement whose main contributions were a slightly better attempt at a rogue gallery and pushing Jade to hell and back as Kyle's true love. Then editorial decided Kyle was done and brought in Raab to start torching it all and brought Marz back to finish the job.
I abandoned him after his dogshit writing and stories
Still mad about what they did to Jade
>what happened?
Common sense did when somebody pointed out how dumb it is to get rid of the GLC.
The worst parts of Kyle's run what I hate about the Captain Marvel run. There's nothing fun about being a superhero who's who the only other people he interacts with are superheroes like its Friends.
HE'S FRICKING SHIT
DEAL WITH IT
Nah Kyle is cool.
You know it is kind of funny how Johns has the reputation he has as the king of the Halgays, but in reality he's been pretty fair to all the Earth Lanterns, and treated Kyle with more respect than some of his previous writers did.
Geoff isn't even a GLgay or a Halgay, he's a self admitted Flashgay.
Geoff Johns and Dan Didio happened
