What Happened?

After singlehandedly revolutionizing Marvel, creating beloved characters such as Jessica and Miles, and redefining how we view comics, I don't understand why he couldn't do the same at DC.

Because Bendis sucks and nobody actually likes Miles.

some people do, but it was after someone else started writing him.

Even Marvel readers who'd supported Bendis' earlier work had started to turn against him by the time he left them. DC hired Bendis thinking they were getting one of the biggest stars in the industry and anything he did would be a huge draw, what they actually got was a past his prime hack nobody liked anymore, and DC readers didn't want him.

He immediately wrecked the Superman books, whose audience had been enjoying the previous run, and used his other books to create yet another self-insert character for his adopted kids. It was all downhill from there.

Bendis got woke at the end of his Marvel tenure.

Bendis was always woke, he wanted to be black. DC even parodied him.

Also he wanted a israeli wife (said so in an interview), and eventually wrote Kitty Pryde into dating his own self-insert in ultimate spider-man. Then after he started writing Guardians of the Galaxy, he had Kitty Pryde join and then marry Starlord.

This is revisionist internet lore by morons looking to weaponize the late great Dwayne McDuffie against BMB. The Brown Bomber is making fun of a real character DC almost brought to print in the 70s. The alter ego is just a generic fat bald white guy. Nothing to do with Bendis.

The alter ego looks exactly like how Bendis was drawn in his USM appearances.

I liked him, and thought he did a good job. Maybe if your wife's children were black, you would understand why at least 50% of characters should be black. (the reason is to balance out the crime statistics)

hi Bendis your comics suck shit

But anon . . . if 13% accounts for 53% . . . then making at least 50% of the characters black is not going to balance out the crime stats at all. You'd need to make more of them non-black.

Bendis writing style is simply changing the status quo and then he has no idea what to do with it. On top.of that he writes all the characters in the same way.

When he first came onto the spotlight with things like Avangers Disassembled and House of M, Marvel was in need of shake up so the changes were welcome. And he did exactly what he can with those two, change everything for ever and leaf the heavy lifting for actually good writers. This somehow created the illusion of Bendis being a good story teller.

When it comes to DC no one wanted changes to superman, superman was as good as it hasn't been for a long time. Then Bendis changed everything and people got pissed. I like what Action Comics is doing right now, but this is despite what Bendis did to Superman before that.

Why couldn't we just have Adult Jon as the lead of a new Legion of Super Heroes book?

IDK do simple tweak to Bendis' pitch: some story where Jon is in danger and has to go into hiding. You could even still do the Jor El storyline. After he leaves the book for a sidequest, Adult Jon re appears with the LOSH. At some point in his future, grown up Jon will be called to the future and it will be the New DC version of "Superboy and the LOSH". They travel back in time to help Clark beat the villain. Clark and Lois get a glimpse into Jon's future. After the team up, Jon returns back to the 30th century and you launch a new LOSH book with him as the lead.
Then kid Jon returns from his sidequest. You can publish a mini of Joe El and Jon's adventure off-world,

This would have been a sensible solution, that didn't changes everything. So, no way that Bendis would have expected it.

Because bendis isn’t a good writer, and DC was on the right track with rebirth and needed someone to build off of what they were doing not someone to come in and bowl everything over to retread the same ground in a slightly different way. The shit he did at marvel 20 years ago is why most of the characters suck today anyway
