Say what you will about The Origin, but Sayla was a fricking boss.

Why does Yas portray Sayla as a superwoman that can do literally everything? Does he really not understand that both her and Char weren't superheroes? It just comes off as unnatural, she's like this in the manga too.

Yas is a senile Marxist with a boner for the good ol' days in Japan when you could mutilate foreigners without American pigs getting involved, and he identifies Newtypes as the New Man so they can do literally no wrong in Origin

isn't half the point of Origin not focusing on newtypes in the story?

Its because Yas writes Char as a machiavellian superman. So he obviously sees Sayla as a similarly capable character. She's extremely capable in the original series but both her and Char are far more believable in 0079 than in Origin.

God frick Origin, it's so terrible, anyone who watches this and then watches 0079 is gonna be horribly confused.

I actually watched the 0079 shortly after Origin. Char and Garma actually come across as actual friends and both relatively competent in 0079. Meanwhile Origin makes Char into a prospective rapist, while Garma is too stupid to pick up on the red flags.

Things might have actually ironically gone better for Zeon. No Char means no Garma betrayal, means Zeon doesn't send a shitload of forces after White Base for revenge, means they might have done better on the Earth front and maybe even not lost at Odessa.

      > No Char means no Garma betrayal, means Zeon doesn't send a shitload of forces after White Base for revenge, means they might have done better on the Earth front and maybe even not lost at Odessa.

I'll never understand why people think Zeon sent a "shitload" of forces after the White Base, because the only forces directly chasing them at any point are Ramba's ship and Char; and Char is explicitly defying orders to chase them after Garma is killed, since he's supposed to be patrolling the coast of Africa after Kycillia recruits him according to dialogue. That's 2 ships, one of which isn't even actually ordered there for revenge for Garma and neither of which have much in the way of men or material. Hence why Ramba was requesitioning the Doms after he lost a couple of mobile suits.

The White Base came to Garma after Char forced them off course, the Tri-Stars were sent by Kycillia to support M'Quve at Odessa and has no concern for the White Base until Amuro killed one of them etc.

Nothing changes. Char's helmet will just block the bullet and be fine.

Chars helmet barely stopped a fencing sword (which are generally blunted), so there's no reason it'd stop a bullet.

Garma was still planning to go AWOL with his girl and stop fighting. Which would have thrown the north american front into just as much disarray. Overall I doubt much would change.

He wasn't really; he mentioned it as a possibility if his family didn't approve of Icelina, not as a definite plan regardless of anything else. Gihren or Kycilia might have objected, but Dozle and Degwin fawned on him so there's not really much chance they'd have done so. There isn't even any real need for Gihren and Kycilia to care or object though, in order to push him into a political marriage or something, since there were no other major players beyond Side 3 and the Federation to try and consolidate alliances with through marriage. And both wanted the Federation gone, not allied.

If Char wasn't there though, then Garma would probably survive at least a while longer since it was Char's actions that pushed the White Base off course when entering the atmosphere and meant they couldn't just go straight to Jaburo. They'd possibly have gone to Odessa through America after that, but may also just have crossed the Atlantic and never touched Garma. The North America forces wouldn't be thrown into chaos, but Kycilia also probably wouldn't call on Garma as reinforcements for Odessa regardless because she was trying to keep the rest of her family unaware of the extent of her Odessa mining operation, since it was central to her plan to combat Gihren in the future by hiding resources.

The Federation may just have sent the White Base into North America though, at which point Garma would probably die regardless, because he read every action they took during the show/movies wrong and only managed any kind of defense against any of them because Char corrected him while steering Garma into traps to get him killed. If Char wasn't there, they'd out maneuver him at every turn and frick his forces up.

Garma deserting instead of getting killed probably would have drastically changed aspects of the war
that removes the heroic martyr that they got from the funeral, and with his youngest son betraying him instead of dying that would probably affect Degwin's mood about the war in general differently
