Like I know it's been a thing in the comics before, but weren't they originally just a bunch of ultra-advanced space nerds high on their own farts to the degree that they refused to believe that anything bad would ever happen to them until oh no it did?

I remember in Superman Birthright Lex Luthor made people fear kryptonians by showing them footage of the invasion warships they had (not mentioning that the warships were thousands of years ago not something they did before the planet blew up).
Personally I think some kinda "we used to be conquerors but now have settled into advancing a passive empire" is great, cause it can be used to parallel most countries history of war and expansion while giving us hope to also follow the parallel to being a passive civil world.
