Did they ever sound good? Maybe live? The stuff I've heard was mastered worse than some indie shit.
Their albums up until the black album were mixed and mastered like shit. On the first three albums James's vocals are reverbed to frick and sit way out of the mix lacking any bass at all, and in their fourth album there's literally no bass guitar. The selling point was their excellent and energetic songs. They always sounded great live though.
these documentaries always have such bad acting
where did the "he left the band" footage come from? I watched the movie and it's not in it
deleted scenes
my favorite deleted scene is where Jason calls them a bunch of homos on voicemail and the coping
Kirk was always the advocate for peace.
>I would say "delete that"
Why is Lars so fricking cringe?
To balance out being so fricking based.
Everything in balance.
because he's eurotrash
Name 1(one) non-cringe snowBlack person
I could name many, but you wouldn't know who they are.
If no one knows who they are, then that's pretty cringe. Try to get some accomplishments under your belt.
He's a manlet israelite.
mustaine is 10x more cringe
Is pic related accurate????
Yeah
>everyone moggs Metallica
MANY such cases!a
they still have the best shows
honestly that's the biggest difference
metallica was the best live, but megadeth put out the best studio albums
people say this alot. what makes a metallica concert so good?
does it just sound better than the albums? theatrics? the crowd getting into it more than concerts from other bands?
never been to or even watched one
>does it just sound better than the albums? theatrics? the crowd getting into it more than concerts from other bands?
All of these. But specifically the sound. Metallica concerts always just sounded so good and clean and heavy. I love Megadeth but for some reason their lives always sounded muddled, even before Dave's vocal problems started.
But listening to Creeping Death and 30,000 people chanting "DIE! DIE!" in unison for 5 minutes is a hell of an experience.
>people say this alot. what makes a metallica concert so good?
No concert ever put out by the "Big 4" (stupid gimmick term) ever matched Metallica's Seattle 89 concert. Megadeth never even came close to matching Metallica's Wherever We May Roam tour. Hell, they wish they had a Worldwired tour.
Like someone else said, they may be better musicians or whatever but Metallica is killer live.
>ever matched Metallica's Seattle 89 concert
neither have Metallica since
ok?
>ok?
ok.
>metallica was the best live, but megadeth put out the best studio albums
pfff i've been shows from all of the 4 and metallica consistently had the worst live performance.
for live: slayer > megadeth > anthrax > metallica
for studio: megadeth > metallica > slayer > anthrax
simple as
They really don't. The other bands have just as much shit in their catalog and is no better at their best. Sure, there are better bands than Metallica, but those bands ain't it.
I'm talking about the video in particular, moronbro
Slayer are fricking cringe
kino, I thought they all seethe at eachother?
Slayer > Metallica > Megadeth > Anthrax
Honestly Testament should be considered one of the big 4 trash bands. Even though I like Anthrax, I think Testament has been more consistent with their albums.
>Testament should be considered one of the big 4 thrash bands.
They never really had a big hit so most people never heard of them. Alex Skolnick is the best guitarist out of all of them though
Fair enough, they are well known in metal circles though. The band has had an insane amount of talent in its membership: Skolnick, DiGiorgio, Hoglan and Nick Barker (I hope he pulls through his kidney failure!).
Not only that, Chuck fricking Billy still sings like he did in the 80s. Unlike any of the Big 4 fricks. Maybe Araya but he's retired now so who knows.
I saw them live a few years ago and Billy was great as was the entire band
Testament is a fantastic band. Did they play the Haunting or Souls of Black?
It might have been more than a few years ago so I don't remember but I'm sure they did, it was them exodus and slayer.
The german big four are better.
JESUS FRICKING CHRIST
the same pic in the same thread posing the same question over and over again
I don't get anthrax they sound like every 2000s buttrock bands. What's so special about them?
The name. The music is nothing special.
They were around at the same time as the other three + other actual thrash bands. IIRC they were the ones that coined the "big 4" thing too but I could be wrong about that.
Anthrax was before 2000's iirc? There were people with Anthrax patches on their jeans.
No. Drop Anthrax. They were never thrash and I will never back down on that. Also the John Bush era is terrible. Not his fault though. Awesome singer.
I don't even think Anthrax is that well known or respected. My uncle used to go to all kinds of concerts in the 80s and 90s, but barely went to go see Anthrax or seek out cassettes. Not for lack of trying, I think it's just not on the same sort of cultural pedestal as the other "Big 3".
These songs aren't thrash?
>Anthrax were never thrash
?
I actually liked John Bush. The greater of two evils is a great album.
Black Lodge is one of the best rock/metal songs of the 90s
The sound of white noise was definitely different but couldn't say it was a bad, not at all. Just wasn't belladonna and I think belladonna is worse generally speaking. After hearing John's version of the same songs I like those better than the originals.
That album was one giant "GIRLS ARE MEAN TO ME SO I'M GONNA WRITE AN ENTIRE ALBUM TELLLING EVERYONE HOW MUCH I HATE THEM AND THEY'RE EVIL!"
Ehhhhhh...i wouldn't go that far. Among the Living is peak Anthrax imo.
So true!
>Anthrax. They were never thrash
kek what the frick anon
I used to blast Bring the Noise so loud when I was a kid it made my parents yell at me to turn that shit down.
documentary proof that they should have retired after the Black Album
This is what happens when you let the drummer do anything except drum.
I liked the documentaries but metal is for dorks that cannot accept the fact that they are not chads
>It's pretty straightforward, this thread. It's a little reddit.
>is way more bassed in your path
Jason gays need not reply
>get extremely talented bassist
>have him play 0000000000 for most of the tracks
Such is the life of most "extremely talented" musicians in bands. Not every song needs non-stop free improvisational soundscapes. Unless you're the solo artist or part of some free sound movement
The guy's an arrogant wanker. If you give him an inch, he's gonna throw out a massive amount of slap-funk bass and ruin the whle thing like he did with Suicidal Tendencies because for some reason he thinks metal needs to sound like the Jerry Seinfeld soundtrack.
should've gotten les claypool instead
James let him out because he was too good for the band
"Stock" perfectly describes every Metallica album since St. Anger.
and most of Load/Reload
