book 2 is among the worst television ever put on screen
I remember when it first came out I actually could not believe what I was seeing.

It was so fricking ridiculous that it's insane. Season 1, 2 and 4 were absolutely ATROCIOUS. It's insane that after writing 2 terrible seasons, they somehow managed to write the best avatar shit ever put on screen with season 3 and then wrote season 4. it was like they showed you they knew how to write a really good series but were writing it to be complete shit for a joke.

It was a lot better than anything else related to Avatar aside from maybe the second season of the last airbender. It wasn't great or top tier, but if they had made it more like that the show would have been somewhat on par with the last airbender, instead they wrote some unwatchable garbage.

Because it didn't have stupid mech suits or glowing giant battles. It was a simple story about them searching for new airbenders, which was an interesting concept (even though the whole idea in itself is dumb, it's interesting to think how people would react and adapt to), introduced 4 new well designed villains with interesting powers, had some whimsical kids doing whimsical kid stuff, didn't really have any relationship drama shit in it beyond Bolin having a crush on Opal. The fights were well animated, Zaheer choking the queen to death was kino.
It's good because it's just a neat little story that starts and ends with some simple actions and a few fights. Doesn't involve spirit bombs, giant lasers or giant robots

Interesting powers and designs but beyond having the aesthetic of an evil team avatar look, they're barely characters. Also the concept of lava bending seemingly being common knowledge after metal bending makes no sense.

There was nothing connecting any of the new Airbenders. We got a meme napoleon dynamite scene, then some old fart with a family, and fricking Bumi which just takes away from his whole character of being the Sokka of his generation. The concept is interesting but it means nothing if its treated like a joke.

People give Book 3 a pass because it features Korra magically not being a moron, some cool factor fights, and a villain who says enough philosophical dumbshit to trick the morons into thinking he's actually smart and not the single dumbest villain of the four Korra villains and that says something.

Not having them be "muhaha I'm bad" and instead having the red lotus or whatever the frick it was and giving them a real motivation to kill the avatar beyond simply having the avatar be in their way was good.

It unironcally fits having such advanced robotics, they've had 70 years to frick around with metal bending and lightning bending AND the fire nation in particular was making airships and tanks.
The giant laser came about by the chance disover of spirit vines power and them integrating it into tech they already had.
Even the giant robot seems possible when you've got 100s of c**ts who can literally shape metal with their hands.

Season 3 is bad too, it's just less bad so it looks better. Kuvira was a good protagonist but was written as if she was the antagonist for some reason.

De-mystifying the origin of the avatar was gay. The avatar soul became Raava, when it was supposed to be these people were the same soul. But, eh. They just de-mystified it too much. And leaned to much into spirit shit.
Book 3 was a great premise and pretty good, but was unearned. Like they changed canon each season because they didn't know what to do.
Book 4 was good, but similarly dumb in that they had to basically reinvent the plot and shoehorn that book 3 was enough to make Korra how she was. And the woke lesbian cringe for the tumblr gays.
Book 1 was cool and they should have dealt with book 2 as their endgame.
