2001 is probably the most significant and thought provoking movie IMO about the grand scheme of things, where we come from, where we are going. I read the book in one sitting in 6 hours. It's certainly the most significant Sci-Fi.
"Best" movie is really hard to define. Would this be the best movie if I just wanted to unwind with a couple of beers and have a laugh? No.
Based and nuancepilled. Good take, anon. If we are going with cerebral/"cautionary" sci-fi, 2001 is definitely hovering around the top of the list. I'm scouring my memory for a movie that comes close to the profound messaging of that film, and while it may seem strange, I think the Expanse screen adaptation comes close. It was generally the first story to really explore what expansion into the Void would actually look like for human civilization, and how we would likely grow around it.
The Court Jester. Not on any specific metric, other films have better cinematography, scripts, acting, etc. But as a whole product it's a wonderful film with no bad scenes, no bad mistakes, no bad acting. Just a perfect little kino experience with nice people and fun songs and good jokes and a happy ending
It just couldn't possibly better be.
Either this or Stalker. Kubrick and Tarkovsky are like two sides of the same coin, the former more interested in the human mind, the latter the human heart.
Literally pic related
Mogged by Solaris
its really not. you just think its more sophisticated because its russian so it seems exotic to you
That's what I've been thinking lately.
Happy Gilmore is the best movie ever made.

BttF 2 is the worst of the trilogy.

Absolutely not. 2 builds on 1 nicely. 3 is just fricking nonsense.
Trust me, I know these things because I am superior to almost everyone here.
Excalibur
Hard to beat Fritz Lang

The Deer Hunter, now even better in the remaster with "cinematic green coloring".

Movie sucked
Best movie? Idk. Best space related movie? Definitely 100%. Best sci-fi movie? Most likely is even if I prefer Alien, Bladerunner and Matrix.
ARM-249
Spy Kids 3
Starship Troopers with The Mummy coming in a close second
Either this or Stalker. Kubrick and Tarkovsky are like two sides of the same coin, the former more interested in the human mind, the latter the human heart.
The Phantom of Liberty

Sapphokino
I've thought about it carefully and I believe it's Groundhog Day.
Barry Lyndon or Rosemary's Baby
