real question, what do I do when I am driven to want to make things but I am not motivated to actually do it? I feel like I have potential but I never follow through with the things I want to do. So how do I stop half-assing my work and actually set forth creating something if the drive isn't all the way there

        Anonymous

There are better summaries than I can give (and I recommend you research), but in short you 1) build discipline into yourself and 2) find out how to capture motivation and stick with it.

These are difficult but doable. Start small and work up. I've had a novel I've been picking at since 2021 and I haven't lost the inspiration, because I make special effort to recall what thrills me about creating it. In my case, it is usually associated with the climax of certain scenes in my mind while listening to speific music.

        Yours may be different.

Time management is always difficult, and there are techniques for that one as well. I recommend a schedule, even just a loose one like "Every Thursday sometime, try to write 5 pages". Or draw or program or animate, etc.

You don't make art for people.

You make art because art needs to exist.

the answer is because you are driven to

That is true. People make art because they feel the need to, because at the moment, you are enlightened with a spark of creativity, and it demands to be left out into the world.

I mean, yeah artists often need to do stuff not for love, but for money or necessity just like anyone else, but the point is that art will never cease to exist, as long as there is a mind to perceive it.

moronic OP but I'll bite anyway.
Amazing Digital Circus got lucky, I don't know if it was the algorithm that blessed them or not, though it was pretty popular and highly anticipated when the trailer of the pilot launched however, probably due to the fact that GLITCH had another popular indie series under their belt which made it gain attention and Goose already having a big following.

The thing is, YouTube is free, you choose what you want to watch. Anyone can just click on a cartoon and watch it without having to pay for shit. This is a big win for big indie projects, however the major draw back of producing an independent animation is the budget and sometimes time, which is a drawback of animation in general indie or not. Not everyone wants to pay for streaming just to watch some cartoons, and most, not all, but most cartoons that are on TV are either garbage or just plain mediocre.
Like what's even good on Cartoon Network or Nickelodeon anymore? I typically see more new Disney cartoon threads on here than I see new CN or Nicktoon threads.

Amazing Digital Circus had amazing animation compared to most things on YouTube. This helped it stand out when compared to almost anything else.

Also being very popular on YouTube with your own idea makes it easier to convince Network executives to fund your show since you've already proven there is a market for it. Hazbin/Helluva being the most recent example.

Many cartoons are made these days by corporate entities that have neither the talent nor the heart anymore to create worthwhile entertainment. The casual seasonal throwaway efforts by Japan run circles around western shows very often. The actually good anime completely destroys them.

    But there are more problems.

CN and other companies have either been too focused on reproducing the same content style from decades ago (a story platform that can produce 60 to sometimes hundreds of episodes) without any story progress. Many corps resist or have not updated to the modern idea linear progressive continuity story telling. Further, they very hesitant to explore certain story topics, and when they do, they often lack the depth of talent and nuance to do so interestingly and adeptly.

Then there is as ugly art style, lazy animation, injecting politics (while lacking good story reasons for doing so), not to mention manipulative politics. Another, albeit smaller point, is they are basically afraid of making anything aesthetically pleasing, for fear of angering feminists and liberals who seem to have a vested interest in not allowing beautiful protagonists.

CN, Disney, Nick, & others enjoyed a monopoly on western entertainment for decades. That is completely gone now. Streaming and the Internet erased most borders and only good content will float. The rest will sink. Nick sacrificed scores of good shows to their golden-cash-cow idol Spongebob, creating little more than a mono-culture.

Disney has been steadily retiring, firing, or just losing the talent that built them. Further the CEO has come out explicitly to state they care more about "political messages" than making entertainment anymore.

CN is an interesting case of steadily shooting themselves in the foot with their Teen Titans Go, & ruining the legacy of Adventure Time. I think ironically that CN is in one of the better positions to recover, but they suffer from many of the same problems as the rest.

Because just recently, a few days after they de-banned doxing, the /raid/ sharts got cucked by their new janny.
Dox threads can be permitted "if they deserve it". They're currently seething over the Toby Fox thread getting immediately deleted.

No my question isn't about Cinemaphile doxxing. How does a creator make sure they arent doxxed while having their name on the internet. I've .Ade sure not to put my name on social media, but I still get scared someone will find my address

you don't. if you're a public figure, you will be doxxed. guess what? if you're in the US and you've ever voted, your full name and address is available publicly. if you have Boomer parents who are obsessed with ancestry websites, all of that information has been already leaked. if people want to find out who you are, they will that information.

the key to being safe is to be a responsible person. don't post things you don't want to be seen on the Internet. even if a website promises something is "private" or "encrypted", it's not. guess what? Cinemaphile isn't Anonymous. Feds have your info and are watching you right now.

she's been doxed before, a couple times actually. most recent time was sometime after scott cawthon got doxed i'm pretty sure.

what the frick did toby fox do? why would they even try to start shit with someone with a fanbase that would swallow their site in an afternoon?

i don't go on Cinemaphile, is this guy their equivalent of our P-E-R-I-• spammer? because if so then that sounds like an easier site to topple than i expected. they'd probably get washed by lolcow if that's the case.

            Anonymous

            depends, does your spammer:
            >spam threads all day every day for the sole purpose of annoying jannies
            >does not bot it, actually sits there and spams himself
            >have zero interest in the board besides just that
            >result in a 5 minute thread cooldown for new IPs being implemented after going nuclear one day and keeping ~5 spam threads up at any given time

              Anonymous

well as far as i'm aware, he does manually fill up the catalog with porn of a certain character and the dox of mods, and sometimes mass replies inside threads with more of that, usually when people mention the character. not the IP shit though lmao that's crazy. the Cinemaphile guy seems crazier than ours then, but either way yeah i get the point being made.

                Anonymous

yeah, a day or two after he went nuclear the cooldown for posting from new IPs was implemented. board's cooldown for making a post, 5 minute timer for making a thread.
anyways yeah, the unfunny altchan filled with (actual) children is really easy to topple. infact i wouldnt be surprised if the thread was deleted for that reason, toby's fanbase is fricking feral to a frightening degree. a murder attempt was recently made because someone made the wrong ship.

i don't keep up with other board drama so this is all news to me, thanks for the rundown lol.
and yeah i saw sharty was just 'jak spam and they made an ED clone and realized it was just kids and aslyum patients. hope they grow out of it i guess.
                >a murder attempt was recently made because someone made the wrong ship.
has there been another one? the last i remember was the needle cookie but if there's been another i haven't heard of then i honestly wouldn't be surprised.

because unless you're an actual criminal with something to hide, getting doxxed doesn't mean shit. do you think being doxxed means you're going to get murdered or your house is going to get vandalized? LMAO. guess what? if you're doxxed and random people show up to your living place unwanted, you don't answer the door and they usually go away. if they're persistent, you call the cops, and the little shits will leave out of fear.
being doxxed means nothing. JK Rowling has been doxxed for years and even though trannies want to skin her alive, nothing has ever happened to her.

The main reason why there are so many YouTube projects coming out now is because of the animation industry basically collapsing. And almost everyone laying off 90% of their workforce, and said workforce has been out of a job for a year and a half at this point.

Lots of industry people are taking freelance and small time YouTube gigs and are working at places like Glitch now. If the main industry was not in fricking shambles for the last year and a half this would not be that big of an event with so many people releasing youtube short after youtube short.

Vivziepop is the worst thing to happen to animation in a while, and people should come around to realizing that soon. She had the same demographic in her audience who like FNAF-theory crafting. But then after 4 years they got a mediocre product.
Having a war with Heaven in Season 1 would be like any other show jumping to the final arc immediately.

Why the frick would you want Murder Drones to be as popular as TADC? It's at a good place popularity-wise, it doesn't need hundreds of millions of views from children and it avoids being raped by content farms.

Plus it's kino, it doesn't deserve to be ruined by viral status.

This. A good show being somewhat niche but being popular enough to be successful with a dedicated viewership is infinitely preferrable to having viral status. Continuing with Murder Drones as an example, it still brings in tens of millions of views and makes enough money purely through merch sales to continuously increase production quality and scale with each episode. It's in a good spot that I'm sure Liam Vickers is happy with, it's 10x more popular than any of his previous work.

Being able to create independent cartoons without a braindead producers asking to cut things and add more jokes cause their power-point said on the theme slide 'Man and Food, working together'. Cartoon Network IS the reason Cartoon Network won't make good cartoons, not internet creators.
