Why is he so obsessed with a sunk ship? Does it have treasure on it that no one else knows about or something?
Why is anyone so enthralled by the titanic is beyond me. I mean it is fascinating but the way people especially in recent years have glamorized it and hyped it up is so strange to me. Its like if a 100 years from now some couple has a 9/11 themed vacation for their honeymoon
Because it is the last "great adventure" that rich people need to see and gloat about. Just like Mt. Everest used to be, until advancements in mountaineering/sherpas doing most of the work made it so just about everyone could go up there to the point it has a line of people waiting for their photo finish of the summit. Space is already commercialized and has tourism too.
This is all about bragging rights for doing the most expensive thing, all so they can say, "hey I went to see a shipwreck and all it cost me was a Rolls-Royce!"
God rich people are the worst. Imagine wasting an entire mortgage just for bragging rights to see something youre probably not much interested in in the first place
Also i saw pic related on twitter
it's funny that his step-father looks like his biological dad
also frick this guy for having money but based, frick your stupid stepfather most of all
Oh damn
>his mom cheated on his real dad and that's why she got together with guy 2 but never told her son about his real dad
This isn't reddit so no one would do that.
Okay I understand the first half of this headline, but what the frick is happening with Cardi-B and Blink 182?
From my understanding cardi B is giving this guy flack for going to a blink 182 concert while his step dad is choking to death in a pepsi can in the bottom of the ocean
What a b***h. Let the guy cope with it however he wants.
He is not coping. Like all rich frickers he is celebrating the fact he will inherit a fortune. Rich people lack fricking morals.
What reason do you have to believe that other than your assumption that all rich people are evil? You hardly know anything about the guy.
why would he cope? it's not his real dad. and yes. the dude is obviously jazzed up about that payout
Checked, but some people are close to their stepdads. I don't know his situation or their relationship.
>Your boomer stepdad who hates you and was going to blow all your inheritance and family money on moronic schemes just killed himself in the most
publicly embarrassing way imaginable.
I'd celebrate with hookers and blow too.
I love that when e-girls post thirst traps there's always a handful of dipshit dudes responding to her like she's actually talking to them personally. Same with people who make pornhub comments. I always wonder what type of person would fricking do that, and it turns out it's guys that look like pic rel.
is this some kind of autism
i mean look at that smile, it's like he doesn't really understand why people smile or what it is so he just does what he considers is a good imitation.
that's the tortured smile of a man who desperately needs a fat butt girl to sit on him. Please get some class. It's how he mourns.
He's a sociopath
What else should he do?
Be with his mom, depending one when this dude became his stepdad he could just as well just be the guy his mom fricks and no more. But presumably his mom loves the guy, so I'd probably say spend that money going to see her and be there for when she gets the inevitable news her husband has explosively decompressed into an unrecognizable mass forever intertwined with the remains of 4 other strangers just so he could see a murky hallway through a toilet seat with his own two eyes.
Isn't he kicked out of the concert now because of his antics?
What other antics has he done besides going to said concert while his step dad is dying?
Threatening to rape and kill multiple women who were also going to said concert
>Threatening to rape and kill multiple women who were also going to said concert
W-what? Big if true. Seriously what is wrong with that guy?
He was most likely pampered a frickton as a kid. You always hear stories about rich kids committing vehicular manslaughter or some shit and couldn't care the slightest bit about the fact that they killed people.
Rich brat syndrome.
People who actually earned (or "earned") their wealth tend to have at least some sense of perspective on the real world. Kids who are born rich tend to see themselves as Chosen Ones who are superior to everyone else by virtue or their birth. They're literally unable to care about human lives.
literally autistic
https://www.sportskeeda.com/pop-culture/threatened-shoot-edm-festival-allegations-hamish-harding-s-stepson-surface-online-amid-blink-182-post-backlash
Dude is an insane jackass who has been kicked out of concerts due to threatening violence. Guy's a complete tool and is absolutely thrilled about getting the inheritance money and probably lawsuit money he's gonna get after the increasingly obvious death from submersible failure Hamish Harding is facing.
I heard some anons throw the "undiagnosed autism" theory around but I feel he wouldn't be going to concerts in that case.
My money is on BPD
I have autism and i was at a con just last week, we still go out to public events and shit not all of us want to be shut ins and friendless NEETs
That's not the issue anon.
Sensory issues are. EDM concerts are rapid flashing lights, constant loud conflicting noises between the crowd and the speakers, and large crowds with little to no personal space.
I have autism and i like loud noises unironically. Tho to be fair ive never been to an EDM concert because i have no friends despite trying my damndest to get some so maybe youre right to some degree
Aint that the truth partner
>Want to be
This life chose me.
>lawsuit money
I'd assume they had to sign some sort of waiver to go on this potentially dangerous mission, unless the company's lawyers are as incompetant as their engineers.
There are limits to how far waivers can go, especially if the dipshits who made the sub are found to be grossly negligent.
Bro, read this excerpt from that Fired Employee. Oceangate knew about the dangers of the carbon hull and the viewport that wasn't rated for Titanic depths, but instead of opting to resolve the issue they didn't pay one manufacturer for a viewport of a higher rating AND knowingly refused to tell the passengers that information.
I just cannot understand how anybody could think a porthole rated to 1/3 of the depth that they would be travelling to is okay. But these are the dipshits who hid this information from the director of operations.
It worked once, therefore the official ratings are bullshit, and repetitive stress is fake.
I feel like you got the line of thinking correct. I can somewhat imagine that line of thought.
But before the "it worked once" when the sub is still a work on paper, like why the frick would you risk the prototype on a part that isn't good for it. That's like saying, "we're going to build this part of the bridge with cotton sheets" like does everyone in that fricking room just nod?
I've actually been in a circumstance similar to this. It was a group project exercise and some designer wanted us to cost and "make real" their drawing and we just repeatedly told them it wasn't possible with our skillset and they wouldn't have it, they insisted that we figure it out because it was our job and we were like, "No." Yes, it was our job to figure something like this out, but everyone refused to entertain some stupid fricker's fantasy drawing that would require everyone in the room to learn a new field of structural design.
>That's like saying, "we're going to build this part of the bridge with cotton sheets" like does everyone in that fricking room just nod?
They do because the last 3 times he gave this pitch, everyone who didn't nod was fired on the spot.
>obvious death from submersible failure Hamish Harding is facing.
I'm confused, I thought he was on the sub himself and is now dead.
The Pakistan billionaire brought his son along for the ride and Hamish Harding went alone, but Harding's stepson is the one who went to a Blink-182 concert.
>cardi B is giving this guy flack
Why does anyone give a flying frick what this untalented former drugging and stealing prostitute says?
"While my step-dad wanted to go under the sea, I'd rather be under you"
-This guy, probably
Give me 250,000 dollars and I'd probably put 200k into a CD and use the 50,000 for a cool trip to the Florida keys, Costa Rica and maybe I don't know, Hawaii i guess?
I would not go in some Iron Lung bullshit and deal with that bs.
>Give me 250,000 dollars and I'd probably put 200k into a CD
That CD must have one hell of a soundtrack burned onto it.
Yeah but these guys do that for a change of pace every other month. These fricks are literally just doing it for the ability to say they DID. When a quarter million is vacation money, you're not thinking of shit like a reasonable human being anymore.
There's a reason most billionaires are pedophiles.
looks like a white fat american Light Yagami lmao
>250,000 dollars
Frick it, with that kind of cash. I would just get a deluxe RV camper and visit every state to test out their best attractions and eat their food and STILL have cash after to spend!
I had to read that three times and check back with the replies to
to understand that. Headline looks like someone had a stroke on a typewriter.
What would you spend your money on if you were obscenely rich? Oh don't lie and say "world peace," "solve poverty," or some other fake gay shit.
I would create a wildlife reserve big enough to host a self-sustained farm where I would live on + a small mol-bio lab.
Probably take the Nike Jr. route and just fund a bunch of animation and vidya I personally want at a definite loss. Throw money at stupid causes I support that would ultimately be of very little help because my money is insufficient and I lack the influence to get others to care. Maybe just buying the "love" of a bunch of loveless bawds that'd only find me interesting for my money. Vacation.
Oh and a cool house.
Good point. If you are that rich I'd love to basically just pay for an expensive movie ticket so I could have movies about things I personally would like.
When you're rich being an Ideas Guy is called being a producer.
Was gonna say this. I'd buy a self-insert into just about every property I like from comics to cinema to vidya. If I was rich enough It'd be the upcoming wedding of Emma Frost and Laser-Anon we'd all not ne talking about instead of Iron Man
>actually spend money on nature conservation
>sea exploration for the longevity of the earth
>buy cool ass shit
>live in a secluded but still easily traversible/have a smooth way to get to a nice town and enjoy city life if I want to be ultramodern home
>commission tons of art for my favorite characters
>fund some indie movies, both live action and animated
I'd genuinely want a fully stocked game room, with every game ever made on display and all the consoles ready to be able to be played at a moment's notice.
Many things, but my ultimate petty act would be to buy out artists who draw and promote characters and ships I despise. Shower them with money, under the condition of never, ever drawing that shit, in public, again (I wouldn't mind if they do it in private, just never publish it).
And, if they go behind my back (or just don't agree to begin with), well... time for the hired goons and a hammer.
Living.
I'd do anything except risking myself to see a rusted tin can on the bottom of the fricking ocean
>rusted tin can
I'd go for Bionicle canister personally.
that reminds me of the orignal canisters they came in that had the head piece that holds the mask on top. my brother used to put one of the long + shape sticks in the mouth and said in a croaky voice "I DON'T FEEL SO GOOD CAUSE IM ALWAYS SMOKIN IN BED"
>What would you spend your money on if you were obscenely rich? Oh don't lie and say "world peace," "solve poverty," or some other fake gay shit.
I would promote more war and hunger, fund nationalist groups and generally try to make the world a worse place to get revenge on the rest of you for being such a bunch of shitheads. Maybe I'd start by bribing the Taliban to allow poppy to be grown in their country again.
>buy all of my dream guns, fricking all of them
>then all the fancy tooling I’d need to manufacture my own novelty gun designs
>buy a large tract of land in the middle of nowhere, build a personal lodge and frick off from society
I would make media that appeals to me specifically
Funding niche media. It'd mostly be for my own pleasure, but some of it might even pay back if you scratch an itch that's been ignored by the establishment.
I would buy Cinemaphile and make it invitation-only. Also, turn Cinemaphile Gold into a real thing.
I’d buy a house in a small town and play vidya all day
There's a plot of land in a valley next to a mountain near my hometown that I've always wanted to buy and live in. It's the farm my grandfather came to work in back in the 60s, an illiterate man who brought all of his kids from the north in search of a decent life. I make a great living now and have a quality of life no one in my family ever got, but I'll never be able to shit out a million plus euros to buy my dream house and peacefully contemplate life and vidya for the rest of my days.
Probably for the best, my kids would grow up to be morons that would go deep diving in an aluminium tube
create outer haven
I’d create a social credit system that would make China and the Summit seem like heroes of the democracy.
Also I’d fund several /d/ hentai anime’s that have content like dick neck girls to compromise guys mental health even more.
The best computer currently possible, pay off my house and my parent's homes. Quit work and live in comfortable upper middle class and vacation.
Probably similar, lean into the the 'eccentric 18th century patron of the arts vibe' - possibly set up a few music and theatre charities for youngsters similar to the ones that helped me as a youngster, buy some permanent freehold properties for the homeless charity I used to work for the could only afford to run shelters seasonally, buy a few restaurants and/or pubs and set up an esports league for the more obscure titles that don't see the light of day normally, is a Digimon Rumble Arena world championship really too much to hope for?
Unironically create dinosaurs and genetically engineered monsters on top of robots
After squirlkng away enough to give me a lifetime pension. Pateon the arts, especially architecture, build a wildlife preserve, pick a small nation and give them a development fund. Build something, Anything.
Vidya and maybe some kickstarter stuff that amused me. Outside of that mostly stuff to keep me and my folks comfy as well as a nice vacation every year or so
Subsidizing families needing sperm donors to have and raise my biological children. I will be this generation's Genghis Khan
I've actually thought about this a lot, and apart from the shit almost everyone would do like buying a really cool house, I'd get into real estate. Specifically, building houses. Not only is it a good investment, my country has a real shortage of low-income housing because everything gets bought up and gentrified. So it's a good way to make a bit of money and help people at the same time, and I could keep rent relatively low because I wouldn't need the extra money.
Depending on how loaded I'd be exactly, I'd also invest in vanity projects like hiring famous studios to make movies/cartoons/video games based on my donut steel ideas.
>Depending on how loaded I'd be exactly, I'd also invest in vanity projects like hiring famous studios to make movies/cartoons/video games based on my donut steel ideas.
That's basically what laika is, the guy who funds it is the son of one of the Nike founders
If I had "frick you" money, I would start an animation network that only made short-run original IP shows. Creators would need to pitch an idea that would wrap up within a specified time frame so no endless cliffhangers or milking of a franchise. If a show was really wildly popular, a new storyline could be pitched using the same world or characters but it would also have to be a finite storyline that would wrap up.
A few of the shows would be short story anthology series like Love Death and Robots or Black Mirror that are essentially made up of self-contained shorts loosely based around a theme. This would be an opportunity for short films to have a platform, but it would also act as an incubator for talent. Want to learn the ropes and eventually have a series? Gotta prove yourself by working your way up the short-form food chain.
Tendies and choccy milk
I'd anonymously put it towards the special needs school I work at (it's a bit run down and uggo)
Soi answer I know but I want to be irl tiger mask
Whats it like being a tard wrangler? I imagine its rough
Autistic kids vary in behavior greatly
Some sperg out if you so much as touch them and others are the chillest nonverbal homies ever
I love it even with all the stress because Im making a visible difference and giving these little tards a chance at life
Based, youre doing good work anon. Why do other autismos get so mad when you touch them? i have autism but that never happened to me. Also why are some autistics non verbal anyhow?
Its all just neurological frickery. There are a few common traits of ASD kids but like I said each kiddo is wildly different. If youve met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism. The only through line I can think of for every kid I work with is easily spiraling into tantrums
Some kids are hypersensitive to touch, some don't even notice it when they've been grabbed, and some are normal like you. Ive seen it all
>and some are normal like you.
I dunno man i can get pretty autistic at times. I have huge anger issues for example and i act moronic around people in social situations. I fricking hate it
Youre high functioning then, be glad
The behavior and social performance are two of the major deficits of ASD people, I work with two kids that are exactly the same. Sweet as pie and great at talking, but whenever they lose a game or are denied something they want they go fricking mental. Throwing, hitting (themselves and others) spitting, biting, everything. Probably the hardest issue to rectify imo
I get that way alot and its hard to control it at all. Im glad there are people like you who help spergs like me in the world dude
Just out of curiosity, what (if anything) helps you to calm down and recollect yourself? I can tell you for a fact that "calming strategies" don't work for shit 90% of the time. Though to be fair, no one likes being told to "try calming down" when they're pissed
I have BPD and experience similar issues with anger management. Breathing exercises genuinely help. A large, conscious inhale, focusing on keeping it in for a moment or two, with a slow, conscious exhale has kept me from smashing computers at work or punching out my bosses for being the annoying little shits they know they are.
Before that I lost my job at the car factory because I was letting my mental issues get so bad I was cutting myself with the power tools on-shift just so I could get some release and keep working. Then I accidentally cut too deep and had to get stitches put in.
>I was letting my mental issues get so bad I was cutting myself with the power tools on-shift just so I could get some release and keep working
I would cut myself in the past for similar reasons and still want to especially lately when i get stressed
I still feel the want to cut from time to time, but instead of bringing out the knives I've switched to just writing out angry bullshit on my arm with a pen. It genuinely helps release the mental pressure without the bodily harm.
Yeah i stopped cutting because it makes my dad sad i just jerk off or scream into a pillow mostly now
Thanks brehs, helpful information
>Just out of curiosity, what (if anything) helps you to calm down and recollect yourself?
I try to remove myself from the situation snd either lay down or sit to calm down and ill typically have some action figure to play with then. Listening to music also helps
>Though to be fair, no one likes being told to "try calming down" when they're pissed
Oh my fricking god i cannot tell you how badly that pisses me off. My dad keeps doing that to me despite me telling him constantly that it sets me off further i think he has autism as well
>Also why are some autistics non verbal anyhow?
Some find speaking to be emotionally exhausting or too overstimulating to the point they choose not to do it. Many autistic people also have apraxia, which means they can't speak words even if they desire to.
I'd buy as much farm land as I could and give it to people who share my heritage and beliefs on the caveat they have at least 5 children and their kids each have 5 children minimum. I'd use the rest to bribe congress into making sales and inheritance taxes illegal, unconstitutional, and anyone who tries to establish them again can be executed in self defense.
I'd buy a cool jacket. One that has cool lines and colors.
Kill everyone at the senate
The rest of my money comes with me to whatever third world country is willing to give me asylum
A nice bomb shelter away from society.
A sex island ruled by me.
Organizing and funding unions in key industries to strike, distributing assault rifles to particularly loyal unions bosses and organizing militas with them. Slowly building a strong Democratic Centralist Vanguard to mobilize the working class with the eventual goal of proletarian revolution. Giving money to the poor changes nothing. Giving them guns and turning them into revolutionaries is the only way forward.
>Giving money to the poor changes nothing. Giving them guns and turning them into revolutionaries is the only way forward.
Yes, I'm sure the hundredth time is the one that's going to work.
And if it doesn't, that it wasn't real anyway.
How many republics and democracies have failed anon? Tell me.
Far fewer, and over a longer period than every single communist regime.
A system failing is not proof of it not working.
A system never succeeding, is a pretty good indicator however.
There have been plenty that have succeeded and continue to do so as we speak
Name one.
China hasn't been communist since the 80s.
>Dictator said something so that makes it true
They also call their country a republic.
He is LITERALLY standing in front of an elected congress
>elected
Having one option in a pice of paper does not an election make anon.
They would get elected if 0 people voted.
You don’t vote for a party moron, you vote for the best candidate the way Washington intended
Make a Who Framed Roger Rabbit video game. But with modern settings.
world poverty.
Solve peace.
Probably comics and cartoons
Time to fund that "Wars of the Diadochi" HBO tv series I always wanted to see.
Buy Cinemaphile and be the most tyrannical admin ever.
Especially towards Cinemaphile.
I'd buy twitter from Musk and then just shut the whole thing down.
Destroy the servers and all backups to finally free mankind.
Id buy Cinemaphile and reddit, then turn the fricking servers off
>Buy every consoles from the past 40 years
>Buy a highest end computer possible
>Buy every game I ever wanted
>Buy multiple houses across the country in each state
>Commission a bunch of art form different artist
>Become a sugar daddy to a bunch of different thots
That's my person plan.
I'd create my own cult. Hire a horror/fantasy writer to flesh out the beliefs and practices of my group and establish the cult in a typical American town. The group would hide under the guises of a community group whose goal is to better the town (which we unironically do as well). We wouldn't do anything illegal just occasional orgies and animal sacrifices, though we'd make sure everything stays legal. The people I'd target most are college age kids who would be into that and financially vulnerable people who needs support. I'd also financially support any member of the group that needs it to continue my scenario and help anyone who plays along.
>and financially vulnerable people who needs support. I'd also financially support any member of the group that needs it to continue my scenario and help anyone who plays along.
Fast forward to the mass rape allegations as it is revealed you targeted vulnerable people, slowly made them completely socially and financially dependent on you, but then withheld that social and financial support unless they did your (often sexual) bidding.
But anon I'd be rich, I'd get off scout free after affording the best lawyers.
Also I'd make everyone files consent forms before doing anything.
consent forms don't mean shit. At best they may deter someone from deciding to seek legal action, but if they did, the forms wouldn't mean shit in court.
But you're right about being rich. Even if you're found guilty, fricking nothing will happen (unless you have the misfortune of being selected as the sacrificial lamb to make an example out of so all the other rich fricks can continue to get off scott free while pretending they operate under the same legal system as the rest of us).
A house and a private militia
I really hope he's not in the will, would be extremely funny.
He looks so happy.
Jesus imagine being rich enough where 250,000 is considered throw away money. Imagine all the shit you could buy with that money, all the games, all the consoles, all the art commissions, all the land. Christ you'd have enough money to be the Sugar Daddy of a dozen of the hottest girls around the world and orchestrate any fetish shit you want and still have enough money to do it a million times over.
But instead morons like this want to spend their money on stupid shit like spending multiple hours in a metal coffin to see a sunken ship with very little historical relevance though a small window so they can tell their acquaintances they did it.
Well, the Titanic encapsulates hubris. The people that proclaimed it as unsinkable and shown that it can be sunk. It's like the myth of Icarus and his wax wings but this is something real that happened and can be dissected further. A living lesson that we can learn from. Though, with recent events, some people haven't taken that lesson to heart.
>Though, with recent events, some people haven't taken that lesson to heart.
Some people never learn, do they?
>some people haven't taken that lesson to heart
Probably because they never actually learned what the frick "hubris" is. Sure, they might have read the stories of the Titanic or Icarus but they weren't actually taught that they were exercises in hubris.
Like in response to this whole fricking thing with everyone I talked to I really just wanted to cut off the conversation with "It's just hubris" and people just didn't understand what the frick that word meant. It's not that I was being an butthole, I just felt like it was flagrantly obvious what the frick happened here given how fricking stupid the CEO of that company was. But people didn't know what that word meant, they didn't know that there was a fricking WORD that encapsulates frick ups of this nature. I feel like this whole fricking obsession with this dumbass is the product of people not understanding what the frick hubris is. Maybe I'm just totally off the mark here, maybe hubris IS what makes people to interested because this isn't an "accident" like a plane crash; the morbid curiosity is a result of flying too close to the sun.
>Why
it was a really big thing, and people love themselves some really big stuff
>especially in recent years
People have been obsessed with the Titanic since it occurred
People are fascinated by disasters, serial killers, freak accidents, and all sorts of morbid stories in general. Even if death scares us, it also makes us curious. It's why we have that saying about trainwrecks and how you can't look away from them.
In the case of Titanic, it's got some attributes that few other maritime disasters have. It took a couple of hours to sink, so there was enough time for all kinds of drama and heroic moments to occur before the ship went down. Usually ship sinkings are too rapid and chaotic for that.
The contrast between the first, second and third class passengers intrigues people too. And the whole idea of man's hubris leading to doom, and all the what-ifs about how the disaster could've been avoided. Even now that the ship is a deteriorated wreck, it has taught some things that scientists didn't know before.
It is different to 9/11. It has heroics plus the fact that that the tragedy was caused by human error and bloody-mindedness, not evil people, but good people. Let the fact it became a metaphor for over-ambitious failings be a reminder that anything can fail with the wrong person in the right place, and it can be anyone, even you.
. Because there is always someone depending on you, and you are important because other people are.
So whatever job you do, do it careful and do it proper like
The same reason why these literally who chucklefricks in the sub became national news. It's rich people jerking themselves off and insisting we care about them.
It's because of the movie probably
The Titanic is like the perfect disaster story. The ship itself embodies romance, hubris, luxury, class struggle.
>the band
The band thing is actually a myth. They were never on deck and never played Nearer My God To Thee.
Theres also the particularly annoying myths that the steerage passengers were deliberately locked in and the ship was substandard safety wise. Both come from a Nazi propaganda film. The gates separating steerage from the rest of the ship were waist high and easily removed. What contributed more to the disproportionately high third class deaths was most of them not knowing any english so they got lost. And the ship itself was built to the strictest safety standards of the time. The prevailing logic being that the Atlantic corridor was crowded enough that aid would never be more than five hours away if ship was in distress. And they would use the lifeboats to ferry passengers to the aid ship. The Titanic sinking the way it did literally never occurred to the shipbuilders.
I think one of the reasons is the amount of idiots who think the love story from the movie was real.
The events of the night itself are kind of the perfect disaster story in a way. You got human greed and hubris, heroism, class struggle, tragic romance, the end of the Edwardian optimism that defined the late 1800s through the early 1900s.
>Why is anyone so enthralled by the biggest civilian shipwreck in history is beyond me.
>hey lets go look up records and artifacts from a time not too long ago that we can easily find on dry land for no reason
>even better its all dark and shitty down there with the very occasional animal that is the only thing that makes the trip worth taking
Submarines are one of the most overrated things I have ever heard about
>Submarines are one of the most overrated things I have ever heard about
It's basically the same as going into space, but without the view, and even more dangerous.
They are quite useful to learn about the ocean
Also Submarine battles are kino
> Its like if a 100 years from now some couple has a 9/11 themed vacation for their honeymoon
Actually, my ex had a 9/11-themed wedding. They used box cutters to cut the wedding cake.
>my ex
Sounds like you dodged a bullet there.
It's because a bunch of VR tour, "real time animation", and a bunch of other digital recreations that were being worked on for years all dropped in a small time frame. It re-ignited the general public's interest and got a lot of new people interested in the details of the disaster.
It's like how Netflix's Dahmer spawned a new wave of fanatics when his story has already been told a bunch of times. It's new to a younger crowd and they didn't realize it was so interesting until some video or series or whatever went viral.
>Why is anyone so enthralled by the titanic is beyond me.
True, people should really focus on her badass Elder sister the HMS Olympic
the dude probably died on the thing in a past life
it's a super weird thing to become attached to
i can only assume everyone else after him are a bunch of sheep
he should marry the titanic like how that one lady married the eiffel tower
>he should marry the titanic like how that one lady married the eiffel tower
She divorced it after falling in love with a fence
I think in general it's an ocean thing, the Titanic is just a major tragedy that happened there so it caught his fancy but he obviously has a hard on for the sea in general since a bunch of his movies are all about it.
I think it's also that the Titanic just has so many goddamn hero moments or dramatic stories told by the survivors. There's a selection bias in the stories told but knowing these people were acting in these ways in their final hours as the ship slowly sank while they basically awaited their own deaths makes the Titanic one of the last big moments in history that you can really romanticize that hard without the iconoclasts running in. The iceberg, "women and children first", the band, people giving up seats on the lifeboats and choosing to die, captain going down with.
The whole story almost seems made for Hollywood at this point.
Why did he portray heroes as bad guys in the film then?
>women first
this shit was cringe asf
women had actual value back in those days
Back then women were feminine, loving, and loyal creatures men were actually willing to protect and die for.
Ah, those days when they white feather shamed men to go die in WWI
>Back then women were feminine, loving, and loyal creatures
Just because that's the idealized shit you see from that time period doesn't make it true

Chads

Nah they had /misc/tards back then.
Suffragettes WERE /misc/tards you idiot.
I missed the part where they blamed the israelites.
They harassed men to go die in pointless israeli wars.
The call of the sea is powerful
I AM EXTRAORDINARILY AVERSE TO OPEN WATER
There's almost a 100% chance Cameron is going die at the bottom of the ocean himself one day, but the circumstances probably won't be as stupid as this.
James would probably do it on purpose once he's old enough.
He'll do it right after he releases Avatar 10 in 2040.
there's a cursed mummy onboard
given how people used to grind up mummies and make them into paint, that's a real possibility
The British Museum did nothing wrong
And that’s why Australia can’t warn us about the future.
Yeah evidence that it's the Olympic and not the Titanic meaning someone with a submarine could prove insurance fraud
>The Titanic has been underwater for so long that half of it rusted away
>In a couple of decades, the Titanic's wreck will just be half of a rusty frame
This obsession with the Titanic is stupid. Especially when there are other ocean liners full of valuables that sank and are just sitting at the bottom of the ocean.
There was a bit of a Titanic boom in pop culture in the 70s when Cameron was a young man thanks to shot like Clive Cussler’s raise the titanic book and a bunch of the adult survivors dying in the 50s-70s. Cameron is sort of a product of 50s-70s pop culture like that; sci fi, pulp adventure , popular science/mechanics
Anything you could dredge up after this many years in salty brine would have corroded pretty badly. Even human skeletons wouldn't remain.
James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron IS James Cameron.
Dio is probably down there

What about the rest of the Meme House?
Imagine Jacking off there
>Full of billionaire
To hell with them, hope they get eaten by sharks
Honestly suffocating in that tin can of death would be a worse way to go tbh
>the dude probably died on the thing in a past life
Reminds me of that case of a 4 year old with the memorys of a WWII fighter pilot who had died in the war
right on, i got murdered in a concentration camp in my past life. you only need to pay $300 for a past life regression hypnosis session (don't let them touch your penis)
> don't let them touch your penis
Then what the frick am I paying $300 for?
>remember my past lifes
>mfw all of them are peasants
>try to remember my past lives
>just keep getting a busy signal
Uh, bros..?
For real? I do believe in reincarnation myself but also I think there's a lot of scammers who prey on people's romanticised ideals of it, be careful out there fren
And this is why modern audiences are turning on Batman.
>anyone with more money than me deserves to die
I hate zoomers.
billionaires are the ones who made zoomers the way they are
>You could make an entire ideology out of that.
If you think it's just about "having more money" then you obviously lack a sense of perspective and can't imagine how much money a billion dollars really is.
Nobody, and I do mean nobody, becomes a billionare without intentionally fricking over tens of thousands of people, and in almost all cases fricking over the nation itself as well. The only reason these people aren't all in jail is because they can afford to buy politicians and change the law to favor them. You look at any of the major problems facing the world today, whether economic, social, political, environmental or whatever, and it's guaranteed that there's a billionare (or a group of them) at the heart of it.
Just billionaires.
cope harder, poorgay. They died rich and famous you'll die poor and hungry.
>They died rich and famous
What? No, they died in an underwater septic tank.
Good thing they can take that with them. Oh wait, they didn't. All are equal in God's eyes anon.
>money is LE BAD
Why are amerifat like this
Money isn't bad. People with money are bad as demonstrated time and time again.
One of them was just a French deep sea researcher and another was the 19 year old son of a billionaire who was terrified of going but did it to please his dad on Father's Day.
imagine killing your own son through shear autism alone
" I paid 250K to this guy so he has to know what he's doing, blah blah blah."
Same idiotic reasoning some rich people use when they buy expensive cars or boats and immediately wreck them because they equate wealth to knowledge.
I am a little annoyed this has received so much god damn attention from media outlets and fricking international government collaboration in saving these dead billionaires.
>international government collaboration in saving
We make every attempt to save people, regardless who they are; pulling international cooperation just like we did with those stupid boy scouts who got stuck in a cave when water levels rose and they were poor as frick. This had a mythic quality to it given the location.
I'm going to repeat this, the Western world saves people who need rescuing and expends a immense amount of financial and human resources to do it because the principle of saving lives has to take precedent above all things. This is why emergency services always show up when emergency numbers are called - they might be late, but they will always show. This principle is how our society functions, placing human life at the highest priority. The only time we do not respond to preserve life is when doing so risks other human lives. Short of putting other lives at risk, every resource is called into service.
You might disagree with this but this principle is what sets this part of the world apart from the other part, where life is not treated with the same weight. The financial costs paid to uphold this principle is immense but it means something. And I don't want to hear any whataboutism because I know it exists; it doesn't refute the principle being the cornerstone of how this part of the world operates.
I'm going to pretend to care that much about people got into that death trap but I don't really care about the refugees either.
>rapists invading europe get rejected by poseidon
I bet they were just eaten by something lame like crabs.
Writing the sequel.
Time to shine
Honestly this case just proves that all mutts are sociopaths. Leftists especially cheer this on because they know they would never act on their murder fantasies themselves.
>"waghhh the poor billionaires"
homosexual
>BUT THE BILLIONAIRES AND THE IRONY AND THE BILLIONAIRES AND THE MONEY AND AND AND
There's a 19 year old guy there. I dont care about your moronic twitter communist delusions (yes, it's obvious you come from twitter) and pathetic impotent murder fantasies. No 19 year old deserves to go that way, and the fact that you think otherwise goes to show you are poor because you deserve it.
>No 19 year old deserves to go that way
How do you know?
Bud, I legitimately do feel sorry for the 19 year old who probably went with his dad because he'd be getting ready to live his own life soon and start a prestigious college and have hardly any time with family and wanted to go on one last adventure with his pa.
But, Hamish Harding and Paul-Henri Nargeolet were two older and experienced adventurers who most likely dealt with several different deep sea companies over their lifetime and they looked at this Stockton/OceanGate company and his absolutely jury-rigged bullshit and listen to his bonkers disdain of safety and regulation in THE FRICKING SUBMERSIBLE INDUSTRY and still gave him their money, still went in Atlantic/Newfoundland waters that had been dealing with the worst storms in 40 years and still went in this Iron Lung bullshit that was made with carbon fiber and aluminum? There's making a big frick up because you didn't know and there's playing Russian roulette with a third rate commercialized submersible company that has a Ceo that tells you this...
not my problem
And the 19 year old dying isn't our problem.
>quote in pic related
This guy sounds like the book version of John Hammond.
>Bud, I legitimately do feel sorry for the 19 year old who probably went with his dad because he'd be getting ready to live his own life soon and start a prestigious college and have hardly any time with family and wanted to go on one last adventure with his pa.
Well that's my main point though isn't it? YOU may feel bad about it, but I've seen the glee with which people celebrated this and I cannot see it as anything other than sociopathy. In any other case where someone died due to moronation I guarantee a lot of the people celebrating now would be the first to tell you it's wrong.
You know, we could be empathetic towards the billionaires.
But if you imagine the shit they do as billionaires. Like the complete and total bullshit they pull on their workers, the family businesses they crushed. The tax avoidance. The globalist race to the bottom to create worse conditions in the world.
I don't think the billionaires were ever empathetic towards anyone they didn't know personally.
The fact the CEOs name is Stockton Rush makes me laugh. That's the exact name you'd expect a fictional evil business man to have.
With his CPO Aldan Haste And CFO Wellington Cutcorners
Quite literally the most expensive and impossible "y'had to be there" story
He never got past the "I'll take a potato chip AND EAT!" portion of his plan
>He never got past the "I'll take a potato chip AND EAT!" portion of his plan
me and you would be best friends if we weren't anon
It literally sounds like a "rush stock=bad CEO= Stockton Rush" YA novel name and then his company is named, OceanGate. Like, holy shit this feels like a bad movie.
Anon every event past 2015 should make it clear that our reality is obviously a hackneyed work of fiction of a writer who's increasingly getting bored
The writer better give us a happy ending several thousand years down the road, followed by a trilogy of where shit gets even more bonkers.
But yes, I've noticed our reality is becoming increasingly absurd to the point that I'm assuming some overlord will be beaming down and apologizing for the bullshit and telling us; "Hey, this was all a test on chaos parameters and we're resetting to they year 1999, to begin a more sedate pace. Sorry for the inconvenience we have caused, you're getting better inventory and storylines in the new future."

Everything about this OceanGate company is some bullshit and I really want to know how seasoned billionaire and millionaires Nargeolet and Harding, din't do due diligence when it comes to this type of thing. But maybe I'm giving them too much credit, honestly. They still looked at that gamerpad of a sub Stockton created and still went in, heard of his hatred of regulations and were still willing to give him 500k on their end. This whole company was on borrowed time before an accident happened and the tragedy of this whole venture is not because it was sudden and unexpected, but a tragedy made of avoidable mistakes that made this thing a ticking time bomb that was going to happen and did. Hindsight is 20/20, but Stockton and OceanGate's open hatred of safety that's been documented in a CBS puff-piece from 2022 really did give people ample warning that maybe, just maybe, this was a disaster waiting to happen.
>No 19 year old deserves to go that way, and the fact that you think otherwise goes to show you are poor because you deserve it.
I didn't read any of this conversation but what do you think about the Russian Ukraine war full of optionless draftee kids being killed
Not him but hey, maybe a bunch of poor Slavshit kids shouldn't be getting murdered, maimed, and tortured so which ever despotic Cold War reject running their country has the bragging rights to say "We now own this dank irradiated shithole outright"
>No 19 year old deserves to go that way
Eh, in the entire history of the world I bet plenty of 19 year olds did enough fricked up shit to deserve this kind of death.
This one didn't sure but others in the past and future yeah.
>There's a 19 year old guy there
And there's young people who've died much younger and in more horrific deaths, hell there's probably kids dying right now of starvation or cold in the streets but I don't see you raising awareness about you stupid Black personhomosexual
Are you fricking moronic or do you genuinely think your what aboutism is relevant. No shit other people die worse how is that an argument against not celebrating the death of people

>REEEEEEEEE
Get fricked and keep those boots shiny
>hell there's probably kids dying right now of starvation or cold in the streets but I don't see you raising awareness about you stupid Black personhomosexual
Why would he need to "raise awareness?" Nobody is celebrating their deaths, which was Anon's point on contention.
This guy had the right idea.
>Moyenne Island harbored a tiny rainforest so dense that falling coconuts didn’t hit the ground. it was impossible to walk across. The island had suffered from neglect. Weeds choked the native plants, and rats scampering through the undergrowth were about the only wildlife.
>Grimshaw enlisted the help of a local man, Rene Antoine Lafortune. Together, in a lifelong project, the pair set out to restore the island to be what Seychelles had been before tourism and development. They cut paths through the forest, cleared scrub, and began to plant native trees and plants. Planting became an obsession. Today, Moyenne has over 16,000 trees.
>Grimshaw then turned to the next problem: the lack of native fauna. There were no birds, so he brought 10 over from a neighboring island, to which they swiftly flew back. He did the same thing again and thought he got the same result. But then a few birds returned.
>Grimshaw and Lafortune began feeding those first avian residents. Slowly, more settled on the island. As the new trees grew and produced fruit, more birds came. Now 2,000 birds live on this little slice of paradise.
>But that underestimated Grimshaw. He never wanted his island to become a resort. He wanted it to turn it into a nature preserve. Before his death in 2012, he turned down multiple offers to buy the island. Once, a Saudi prince reportedly offered him $50 million for it.
I'd love to do the same thing. By a large plot of land and turn it into my personal garden of eden for native plants and wildlife.
Biden's buddies had the news play up the drama to distract from Hunter.
What about the rats?
Shot them with a .22 rifle, probably. That's what I did at the town dump site when I was a kid.

My grandfather would ask me to do stupid dangerous shit every now and then when I was a teenager. I didn't think I was being exceptional by saying no to him, but I guess I'm a fricking genius by your standards.
The billionaires are killing themselves with their dumbassery here, visiting the wreckage of a vessel that sank due to rich idiots forgoing safety and many rich people dying due to incompetence in a submersible that was made by a rich idiot that hated safety regulations because it interfered with him trying to commercialize his business venture. The irony here is almost too fricking broad and on the nose, that if you didn't know any better you'd think this was some d-list movie on the Sy-Fy channel starring old has-been actors and poor graphics.

How many tears do you shed for the endless masses of poor people that die every day? And the reason you don't know that is because there isn't a single rational reason to.
I've already said my thoughts on the matter here
and here
, I've kinda got nothing else to really say at this point. Except this was a tragedy born of avoidable mistakes, but safety was ignored for profit and many warning signs were ignore by rich patrons, two of whom were familiar with the submersible industry and worked with other submersible companies that had stricter regulations and rules.
The fact that OceanGate went out during stormy weather and the captain of the vessel was ok with going out in Atlantic/Newfoundland waters during the worst storms that region has had in four decades should have never been a ship captain in the first place, and then dropped that diy-gamer sub that lost certification due to its poor construction in those same waters? What dumbass fricks around with that?
You know that sat in that mothership, rocked by heavy waves and whitecaps, looked at the weather forecast not being favorable except for this fool's chance, also knowing Atlantic weather is unpredictable and deadly. And still decided to go ahead. So many nautical rules were broken, buy people who knew better than to act like a bunch of tourists who were visiting the beach for the first time.
Yeah, I have some sympathy, but it's tempered with the knowledge that two of these people should have known better than to go ahead with this bullshit. Nargeolet especially.

I mean I can feel bad for how they're going die but I could really care less about them plus this situation sounds so eye rolling avoidable that you can barely get too empathetic
I hope they died quick and haven't just been sitting there in the dark slowly suffocating to death as their air gets used up
They absolutely did.
That bullshit tube of sheet metal probably got somewhere between 1,700 to 2,000 ft and got crushed by the weight. All that air pressure from inside the cabin, roughly 28 atmospheres (bars) or the equivalent of 400 psi suddenly and violently normalizing all at once. That includes the air they had all been breathing. Anyone close to a breach in the hull would have been sucked out. Everyone else inside would have immediately died from their bones and organs suddenly exposed to the pressure and immediately breaking/rupturing out of any hole the air could escape from.
If you want a more visual representation of what violent decompression does to a body look up the Byron Dolphin decompression incident. It is absolutely NSFW and incredibly graphic so be warned.
If you're not up for it the Mythbusters did a similar experiement on decompression you can look up.
That is not even remotely what happened. It was implosion, not decompression. Nothing would have been sucked out of anything, For one brief moment, a high-pressure water jet would have burst in through the tiniest crack and sliced through anything in its path, to be immediately followed by 300 atmospheres of pressure crushing the Titan like a soda can. Everything and everyone inside would be instantaneously pulverized into a thin red slurry of meaty goo and carbon fiber shrapnel.
>For one brief moment, a high-pressure water jet would have burst in through the tiniest crack
That's not how carbon fiber works in high pressure environments. Titanium and steel would fail slowly like that. Carbon fiber just fricking shatters. No water jet. Just everything is fine and then gone.
These frickers were were instantly vaporized by 6000psi coming at them from every single direction in about 20ms. The water moves so fast and compresses the air so hard that it actually makes it combust for a brief moment.
People talking about recovering bodies have absolutely no fricking idea how much pressure is at the bottom of the ocean. These people were instantly crushed into a fine mist and then dispersed across a vast area when the reactionary shockwave hit. There's no bones, no teeth. They were atomized.
decompression happens in space as everything is pulled apart and spreads across the empty vacuum
what happens under the weight of water is just compression
>Mt everest

What's up with rich people and deadly situations?
You think they fricked?
They probably beat that CEO to death, I know I would have. But, hopefully their vessel experienced implosion and they dies in less than a second.
Oh, I didn't think about that. That'd be more merciful than spending 3 days cramped head to toe with 5 strangers slowly going insane, while "my heart will go on" keeps going on randomly, shitting and pissing in a corner of a bathtub with no fresh air recycling at the bottom of the sea while you wait to asphixiate to death.

>world has massive problem that is only going to get worse
>but you better not so much as think about ways to solve it!
not exactly what you said, i know. but this is the view a lot of people seem to have, and it's dooming humanity.
In this case, "resolving it" means committing atrocities, so yeah, sorry, I don't think that's a good idea. The biggest steps aren't even up to us. Tell India, China and Africa to stop fricking so much. A decline in first world populations would actually harm the world more, because these nations don't feed and fully take care of themselves.

>WATCH: Missing Sub Boss Brags About Not Hiring Experienced 'White Guys' with Military Backgrounds
>"When I started the business one of the things you'll find is there are other sub operators out there, but they typically have gentlemen who are ex-military submariners and you'll see a whole bunch of 50-year-old white guys. I wanted our team to be younger, to be inspirational, and [an old white guy is] not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go pursue marine technology."
Get woke ship broke
Diversity? You mean the entire company that had a ton of white people manning the operation, including Stockton Rush who was a middle aged white guy whose hiring practice was to get young and inexperienced workers straight out of college for his team so as not to pay them any proper wage experienced and seasoned mariners would be expected to be paid outright. And also so Stockton wouldn't have to deal with experienced marine technicians telling him his ideas were shit and they would have been whistle-blowers who would have then made people scrutinized his business even more so, and thus affecting his profits negatively.
What you just witnessed is is a multimillion dollar company use "ageist/overexperienced isn't needed for company" hiring practices that makes it so that they'll be reliant upon young people who have no idea what the real industry standard, pay and practices are, so as to cut hiring/wage cost AND so the company has a bunch of yes men who don't or can't say that the company is wrong for the multiple unsafe industry standards the company put in place so as to maximize profit, for fear of firing.
This has been in the workforce for years, "wokeness" to companies is just a smokescreen for this type of hiring practice that been implemented for decades.
>had a ton of white people manning the operation
He bragged about not hiring any white people.
Seems like a lot of white people here
https://twitter.com/OceanGateExped/status/1669374940221435907
Also of note is that the guy in charge is also white and was the one to sign off on going down in what was clearly a death trap piloted by a MadCatz controller. /misc/acks must cope and seethe that they cannot blame this on minorities but instead the inherent moronation of our billionaire class.
>He bragged about not hiring any white people.
>company makes statement for PR

Fricking dumbass his actual statement is he didn't wanna hire any 50 year old vetrans who are mostly white, it wasn't ever a diversity thing it was a pay grade thing.
>and [an old white guy is] not going to inspire a 16-year-old to go pursue marine technology

>What is he thinking right now?
"With no end to this WGA strike in sight, I may well die before Avatar 6 releases."
Why hasnt that ended yet anyhow?
They call him Jaaames Cameron
The bravest pioneer
The submarine billionaire said that safety is a cost sink. He framed safety measures as something that takes from profits. No shit, but now you're fish food. They don't care that they put you at risk every day. Your safety is hardly a thought because their own safety is an afterthought.
Truthfully, James Cameron is probably pissed off at that chuckle-frick Stockton guy for his shit submarine and his absolute disregard for the safety of his crew and passengers. Cameron actually loves deep sea exploration and the science behind it. He'd see Stockton as an antithesis to himself, and despises Stockton's desire to make this whole thing a for-profit venture at the cost of cutting industry standards.
He'd fricking beat his ass if he could.
Cameron does love the ocean, but he can often be as much of a maverick as this Rush guy. There have been multiple near-death experiences at the sets of Cameron's films. He himself and his lead actor nearly drowned during the filming of The Abyss. Cameron hasn't always been careful enough with Titanic's wreck, either. On one expedition, one of his subs accidentally collided with Titanic's wreck and damaged parts of it.
I think he's rather similar to this OceanGate CEO. These men are both so fascinated by the ocean that they're willing to take risks for it. They've got this explorer's spirit that calls them towards mysterious and dangerous things. It's the kind of a spirit that sent men to find a new route to India, or to search for the poles of our planet, or to build settlements in uncharted lands. Some of these explorers paid for their efforts with their lives, while some others found success and created something new and spectacular.
Even if Cameron's sub operations have been far more safe and responsible, he is still very aware that the the sea is cruel, things can go wrong, and he might end up dying. Rush knew it too. When he needed to do test dives on the sub he had built, he went diving alone to immense depths. It's partly because he didn't want to endanger others, and partly so he could get exclusive bragging rights. Rush was the second person to dive solo to a depth of at least 13,000 feet. Cameron was the first to do that.
Stockton Rush was playing second fiddle to James Cameron and in his desire to be like him, cut corners on submersible safety, has done so since 2018 and has endangered lives for profit. And in doing do killed two billionaires, the son of a billionaire and the man who visited the Titanic 30+ times and was part of a group that had salvage rights to the Titanic.
There was nothing heroic about Stockton, he was a greedy for-profit frick that's been firing people who go against him and shrugged off industry warnings because he didn’t like being told no.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/oceangate-warned-2018-david-lochridge-1.6883432
>Adventures spirit
More like IS a spirit. When you're designer says your windows can't take 4000, you don't fire them and charge for rides. If he wanted to go by himself on this, maybe I could see him as a naive daredevil, But he roped people into his dives without telling them how unsafe the thing was for a profit. Hell he was using text messaging for directions, using a wireless controller that needed to have spare batteries on hand, this one isn't even a safety gripe, but the only window to physically see the Titanic was IN THE TOILET!, and the thing was made out of carbon fiber. Carbon fibers good at keeping pressure in, not out, (think space ship) and instead of stress testing it, they slapped a microphone on the thing to detect any cracks which is fricking useless as as soon as a crack is detected, depending on the depth all it does is inform you you're dead. He got what he deserved.
>He himself and his lead actor nearly drowned during the filming of The Abyss
That's because the actor didn't trust the liquid breathing thing Cameron was trying to sell him on and told everyone to just fill his helmet with regular water. The liquid breathing option might actually have been safer.
The liquid breathing substance is also carcinogenic as frick.
Hey man, if it's between that and drowning...

The ONE time normies question the MSM is when they're actually incorrect and ignorant. This is just gonna discourage people from being skeptical in the future.
So at this point they're dead right? heard on the radio they'd have run out of oxygen by the morning.
they found broken parts of the sub, it explode due to pressure
At least they didn't suffer
That's too bad.
They died instantly from implosion. They didn't even get a chance to lose their breath.
They found the sub debris, it's ogre, they got smushed
The rich fricks I laugh at, but one guy was the only other guy besides Cameron who visited the Titanic as much, him I feel bad about
They would have run out of O2 at roughly 7 AM EST today but the US Coast Guard said they found what looks to be a debris field with pieces consistent to parts of the submersible that indicate catastrophic implosion.
They probably died Sunday, the day of the launch, and this whole time between then and now was a recovery mission disguised as a rescue mission. Titan lost its rating for the depths of the Titanic was in and the carbon fiber hull was already experiencing fatigue.
The only reason we know now what's happened is because the Coast Guard on Wednesday was spending its time getting conformation on what the debris was, and was with the families of the deceased and telling them what had happened.

Yeah, found a company rep saying as much on MSNBC. Guess they decided pretending everyone was alive for a few days was a good idea?
It's also the fact that "A RUSH TO SAVE LIVES" makes more interesting headlines, and the news is a business.
>they heard an implosion at the same time as they lost contact, but withheld that information until search crew located debris themselves
>when journalists visited their main office for an interview with staff, they found all the company signage had been removed from the site, and the windows papered over
Last year they pulled a similar stunt where the sub went off course and it took 5 hours to locate where it went, and during that time the mother ship crew shut off their internet connection to prevent the journalists who were observing from being able to tweet about the situation. I hope all the employees go to prison.
OceanGate is going to live up to the "Gate type Scandals" quickly it seems. Whoever was the safety director for this company is probably going to get into criminal charges, along with the rest of upper management.
They legally classified the vehicle as "experimental" specifically to avoid safety regulations.
The sheer god damn hubris. They were just begging Poseidon to make an example of them.
OceanGate just killed two billionaires and the son of one of the billionaires and for good measure a millionaire who is good friends with James Cameron himself. Like, of all the people to die in your death trap, you kill them? Bud, it's over for that company and its assets are going to be liquidated and upper management probably being sent to prison for manslaughter.
If they were smart they would've forced all the passengers to sign a waiver to release the company of any liability in case of this exact situation.
But considering how the "engineering" department is
Its a 50/50 chance they didn't because the CEO didn't want to spend money on lawyers to draft it.
They're definitely done as a company.
They 100% had people sign waivers with the word "death" in the first paragraph like 9 times.
It 100% doesn't matter. Waivers don't legally mean shit in the best of times, but they especially don't hold up when death is involved due to a complete disregard for safety.
What in the FRICK
seriously WHAT THE FRICK
Did they hire literal downies to Black person-rig that fricking coffin?
Every new detail I hear about this piece of shit its so glaringly obvious how fricked it was.
not even the dumbest part of the story.
Reminder that instead of proper ballast tanks they were using bundles of pipes hooked to the sides of the vehicle, that they'd literally shake off by rolling it side to side.
its even better because the wireless controller they used is notoriously fricking trash.
I seriously want to know how much inventory they had of that controller.
I can't fricking wait until they release the maintenance schedule for this stupid machine. I'm willing to bet there was no protocol for regular hull integrity checks. Like fricking none. No retirement plan either like decommissioning the thing after X dives. I bet the stupid fricker was going to run it until it gave, and it did after like 6 fricking dives.
Does all of this sound too stupid to be true to you? Congratulations, you're not moronic. It's not true. This whole thing is one big smokescreen.
What billionaire would willingly get into this deathtrap? Even if they're somehow ingorant of all the safety issues (do you believe they wouldn't at least do some basic research on the company they're paying 250k?), do you think a spoiled billionare would get into a tiny tin can where they can't even stretch their legs and have to piss in a plastic bottle, just to watch at some wreck on the pitch-black bottom of the ocean?
The truth is that these people had to disappear for some unknown reason (speculate away), and decided to stage their own deaths in a way that would not only never be questioned (since the whole thing was immediately turned into a global news spectacle), but even if it was questioned there would be no possible way to investigate it since the evidence would be at the bottom of the fricking ocean.
Occam's Razor you fricking schizo.
>what billionaire would willingly get into this deathtrap? Even if they're somehow ingorant of all the safety issues (do you believe they wouldn't at least do some basic research on the company they're paying 250k?), do you think a spoiled billionare would get into a tiny tin can where they can't even stretch their legs and have to piss in a plastic bottle, just to watch at some wreck on the pitch-black bottom of the ocean?
The vehicle performed multiple previous trips with other rich suckers. A simpsons writer went on the thing 3 times. Rich people aren't intelligent by default and people who do not understand basic mechanical engineering will not see the glaringly obvious faults with the vehicle as those that even have a mild knowledge of the subject.
Why the frick would the CEO wish to have his face plastered across international television if it was a ploy to fake his own death with a couple of other randos doing the same thing?
They're billionaires. They can pay off any kind of fricking trouble they get into, which makes faking their deaths an absolutely asinine conspiracy.
Congratulations on being a useful idiot.
>Why the frick would the CEO wish to have his face plastered across international television
Did you even write what I wrote? The fact that his death is all over the media means that nobody will question it. Most people could run into him tomorrow and even if they recognised him, they'd think it was a lookalike because they "know" that the guy is dead. Hell, he could simply change his haircut and wear some glasses, and nobody except people close to him would be likely to ever guess it was him. It's not like he's some major celebrity and people have a very short memory for this kind of stuff.
Congratulations on being an unmedicated schizophrenic.
>its just real because I say its true ok!
They have frick you amounts of money. What kind of trouble would any of them have that'd require them to pretend to be dead over throwing money at the problem until it goes away? The fact that you can't come up with a single reason why any one of them would want to fake their deaths is reason enough to prove your theory as illogical.
>The fact that his death is all over the media means that nobody will question it
Except for the federal investigators that will be combing through everybody even vaguely associated with this shitshow to assign the blame to. I especially want to know why you think the 19 year old would need to fake his death alongside his father's.
You guys have been sucking rich wiener too long, it turns out being a gorrillionaire doesn't mean you're smart, just predatory when it comes to finance. The same way some redneck moron will drown trying to make his own submarine out of propane tanks, there exists some billionaire morons that'll get headcrush maximum'd in some con artist's propane tank
For what it's worth, I'm keeping an open mind and willing to believe this anon
the answer is that people can just be stupid and make stupid decisions.
being a billionaire doesn't save you from that, in fact it probably amplifies it to some degree, just that their money is usually the cushion that saves them.
you seem easy to manipulate. That's good.
Well yeah you're not going to pay a professional that's too expensive.
The more I learn about this whole thing the harder I laugh.
I honestly can't laugh at this shit anymore. I've lived too much life to know this happens all the time only with less death and catastrophe.
I was talking to some guy a electrician apprentice. And he was telling me about how the master or journeyman I don't remember he was training under was just flagrantly disregarding basic safety protocols like using your right arm (i.e. the non-heart arm) or looking away from the shit that might blow up in your face if you did your job wrong. And the apprentice like, told the guy and the guy was like "it's fine don't worry" and guess what he used the wrong arm and he was looking at the thing and did everything short of explode and almost blinded him. They blew half a million dollars in equipment but the apprentice told me he didn't care about that it was the fact that if the equipment exploded his boss would be fricking dead.
Every now and then Death snags a billionaire. Look at fricking Steve Jobs, 99% chance of surviving his fricking cancer but nope, decides juice and vegetables are the way and goes from a 99% chance to survive to like 1%. But that's just a matter of statistics, there are just fricking less billionaires than electricians.
>experimental
vax status on the passengers?
Shut up, moron.
hey im not the one who built a submarine out of carbon fiber and didnt even seal it up all the way
honestly a better way to go than over the course of days crammed in a tiny space waiting for the oxygen to run out
>recovery mission
bro they're not recovering ANYTHING lol

>‘Titanic’ director James Cameron speaks to ABC News on the loss of the Titan submersible: “I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field.”
You can actually listen to what he says here.
His name is James Cameron! The Greatest pioneer!~
>he starts bragging about how his shuttle went three times deeper than the Titan
based Cameron does it again
He needs to drag him more. The butthole said safety is just an extra expense. This is what caring more about money than safety gets you.
Cameron is probably trying to be nice, if only because everyone now knows that they're all dead, but when the lawsuits start flying around and accusations of lying about just how much Oceangate lied about how safe their subs really are, be prepared for the scathing and anger.
Hell considering Cameron's record he probably knew the guy who was actually piloting the sub.
He knew the French guy and saw him as a friend.
Cameron claims to have some further inside information. The crew on the sub had presumably noticed some kind of a problem and dropped their weights, and they were trying to get back to the surface when the sub imploded. If this is true and if there was an implosion heard as well, it took an oddly long time for the surface vessel to contact the authorities.
lol
Read it in Conker's voice.
So, I guess they did die instantly, vaporized in the implosion. Cruel as that sounds, that was what most people preferred over them dying slowly with chance of rescue. Did they explain what was that banging noise they heard then? Also, that stepson didn't give a damn. I know personally he couldn't have done anything but at least show solidarity even superficially. Going to a Blink 182 concert and cooming over half-naked girls on twitter doesn't make you look sympathetic.
>Did they explain what was that banging noise they heard then
Probably the ship itself groaning and slowly decomposing in the sea. Either that, or it was perhaps the rescue vehicles and ships themselves making the noise.
He's just giving as much shit as anyone's wife's son would.
>Did they explain what was that banging noise they heard then?
It could've been literally anything. The ocean is noisy as frick and sounds travel so far and fast it's not easy to tell what made them or where they even came from.
>Skill Issue

Reminder that the bible makes it very clear that rich people never deserve to go to heaven. So why should we care about them if God doesn't?
I mean i hate rich people too but come on dude
ackshully the "eye of a needle" was a trading post and the bible means it's extremely easy for rich people to pass to heaven
>Reminder that the bible makes it very clear that rich people never deserve to go to heaven
It literally doesn't though.
>And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
>When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
>But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
Matthew 19, 24-26
It is harder for them, but they, like all of mankind, are not beyond salvation.
if "water" is so heavy then how does the "earth" float in "space"?
It's because of all the air in the atmosphere, it acts like a balloon to keep the earth floating.
It doesn't. We're actually constantly sinking. Space is just so deep we haven't hit the bottom yet.
>imagine paying 250K to get your bones squeezed out of your body like tooth paste by tons of water.
No thank you, I'm glad it was instantaneous but fricking hell it still sounds horrible.
why can pressure do that?
Its simple physics. Water is dense. That density exerts physical pressure upon objects immersed in it. If the object cannot exert equal pressure back, then the force of the water will move where it has the least resistance, and move quickly.
>basedjaks over the oceangate crew
Sometimes i fricking love being alive at this time period
I imagine you mean the hot as the sun part, since the crushing is self-explanatory. To that, something something, pressure and temperature in a closed system are directly proportional, from vague memories of science class back in school
Needs black ariel.
What I don't get is why the CEO was willing to go in the sub despite knowing how shit it was. I guess he was arrogant enough to think nothing bad could ever happen to him.
The vehicle had made other trips down and to the company that was proof enough that it was fine. It really was just a matter of time before they experienced this catastrophic failure and god chose to punish him directly.
in his timeline, nothing did happen
Dude wanted to be Jaques Coustou very badly apparently.
Question: does anyone care? I mean, beyond just morbid curiosity. Does anyone care? I know people would be on the edge of their seat if it was a space disaster, but deep sea? Eccentric billionaires who thought "well, shit, I've been to the South Pole and the top of Mt Everest, now how do I tempt fate?"
In baseline empathy I care since its a loss of life that could've completely been avoided. That empathy is overridden by disgust at the gross negligence of the company that built the coffin and the stupidity of the occupants that actively paid a quarter of a million dollars each to be on that shitheap.
Baseline empathy is complete fricking
nonsense and frick anyone who justifies their emotions like that. Do you know how many people died yesterday? Do you even have a concept of what "preventable" might mean? Pretending to care about stranger's deaths is ALWAYS an exercise in vanity which exposes what observers care about and what they don't. Frankly, I wonder how much people "care about" it because it's on the news compared to how many people care about the specifics of deep sea implosions.
Nobody cares that you're angry over not having your feelings validated. If you genuinely don't care, why are you angry over others caring?
The submersible community probably cares quite a bit. You had someone, who for years, flipped off safety regulations and spat in the eye of industry standards all in the name of profit. Got billionaire customers to give him money, from the Simpsons showrunner, billionaire philanthropists who are widely recognized for their generous contributions to scientific research, to a fricking Titanic specialist who is partners with the company that owns salvage rights to the very ship in question. All these people got suckered into this man's delusional fantasy of "safety is a waste" in the deep sea submersible industry for fricks sake and he routinely just skirted regulations by just not giving a shit AND nothing happened to him or the ships that chartered that gamer-sub out in the ocean.
This bullshit was allowed to continue and it did, even with the accidents that did keep happening, until finally it killed the biggest names in a billionaire explorer's club, and all the money they gave to actual scientific endeavors is now gone.
It also brings up the possibility that there are absolutely more Stockton Rush like frickers out there. Submarine operators who do bend and break rules for profit, who might not have the same clientele as Stockton, but act the same as him.
How deep is the rot? Is he an outlier or is he just the first one we've seen and it's like an iceberg, it's bigger once you dive beneath the surface.
>Is he an outlier
Your post brings to mind how SpaceX's launches are fricked because Elon wanted to cheap out on the launching pads, so I think this is maybe just the standard mindset for rich venture capitalists.
>The submersible community
The general sentiment I've gotten from listening to that community is that they are unfazed. This guy eschewed all their principles, rules, and standards. The entire community as consistently and correctly pointed out this guy broke all the rules and this was the consequence. Even if this invites further government regulation they don't really care because they have already scienced the frick out of this sort of thing and they already put safety at the top of their priorities. The human sense of adventure will never be diminished so they don't even consider this bad press.
To the submersible community what happened here was as if some guy in the racing community refused to wear a seatbelt and used brakes unsuited for handling racing velocities. It's such a stupid fricking outlier it's impossible for anybody to see a part of themselves reflected in this guy because he was just that fricking stupid.
There aren't a whole lot of DSVs in the world. Regular submarines are another matter. But if they operate out of an actual port and don't get dropped off in international waters then they're subject to regulation.
We lost power to the forward gameboy! Mario not responding!
My favorite Futurama joke.
any chance their remains will wash up?
They're a fine paste that every single deep sea animal filtered through whatever sort of eating mechanism they had.
They were likely turned into smoothy.
And with them being that deep, even if some large/recognizable chunks survived, they'll like stay down there or get eaten before making it to the surface, let alone the coast.
There are no remains. Imagine getting hit by a freight train going full speed. Now imagine floating in air and having freight trains coming at you from every single direction (all sides in 360 degrees as well as top bottom and all diagonals). Bones become powder, everything else becomes a mist. Now imagine this is underwater. The cloud of what was once a person just becomes part of the ocean.
I love that reporters keep asking officials if there are any plans to bring up remains and they keep saying stuff like "we are unable to make that determination at this time". I guess it's not good press to tell people that there is no way anything is fricking left.
This is a clip of what happens at 135psi. Note that it takes them time to get to that level because they're doing it with tanks, but when it reaches 135, the meat man just goes pop. The people on the Titan were subjected to 6000psi and there was no gradual increase.
>I guess it's not good press to tell people that there is no way anything is fricking left.
This is the part that I am most curious about. I wonder what protocols both officials and media are following to not give people the facts straight up.
I'm not making some fricking comment about fake news or anything, I know they are following some kind of professional public relations procedures. I just don't understand why they can't just explain the physics of the situation bluntly nor why the guests don't say it either. I don't feel like it's advantageous to not take this opportunity to educate the public about how shit works whether it be that they are transformed into hamburger soup, or why it is important we expend so much money attempting to recover them, or the near-supernatural forces that exist on the bottom of the ocean that destroy shit.
Respect for the families. It's hard enough to hear that your loved one(s) has died in a horrific accident. You don't need some autist giving a press conference being like "oh yeah, they were mashed into particles in 1/50th of a second. There is nothing fricking left. NOTHING. All of their hopes, dreams, and plans for the future were mushed into a liquid and then rapidly shockwaved out for miles under the ocean so even if we wanted to collect a portion of their liquids in a cup, we couldn't."
The press conferences I saw are doing the right things. They're not saying they are going to try to retrieve them. They simply say that they don't know anything at this time.
It's the same reason nobody said they were dead the moment the sub lost contact. Even if the craft was intact on the ocean floor there was zero chance it would have been able to be retrieved. We barely have the technology to dive that deep - NONE of the crafts or drones we have would have been able to get down there in time. The search and rescue was basically a training exercise but we HAD to try both for public optics as well as the freak slim chance that they could actually be saved.
If an astronaut became untethered while doing a space walk on the ISS and was free-floating in space, you'd also see the government mobilize and try to come up with plans to save them but realistically there's no way we'd be able to send a rocket up, rendezvous with the person, somehow grab them, and them tow them somewhere safe, but making an effort is better than just immediately throwing in the towel while the person is still alive and waiting to die.
>NONE of the crafts or drones we have would have been able to get down there in time.
What I meant to say was none of the crafts or drones we have would have been able to mount a reasonable rescue mission in time. They might have been able to get down there had we located them right away, but none of them are outfitted for rescue operations and would have to be custom modified. Even the Navy's Flyaway Deep Ocean Salvage System needed to be welded to a fricking boat to work and that is made to bring up wreckage...not living breathing people in a potentially compromised craft.
I understand and appreciate taking care not to mess with the already-elevated emotions of the families. And I appreciate the restraint the press has by not indulging in autistic explanations.
I agree that we shouldn't give the public the "vaporized paste" explanation but I just feel like people need to learn from these moments and it doesn't do any good for them to not be given an explanation as to why our society conducts recovery operations like this as per:
I feel like it won't be long until some dipshit realizes the profit motive in giving it straight and/or start b***hing about the costs of such a thing and I feel like institutions should take opportunities like this to explain as you did why we save the astronauts. I feel like most of the public cannot articulate why we do things like this and I think it'd be good if we used these opportunities to explain that the effort and expression of humanity in exercising every available resource to do what we can is what makes us great, that this sort of thing is what drives humanity forward.
>"oh yeah, they were mashed into particles in 1/50th of a second. There is nothing fricking left. NOTHING. All of their hopes, dreams, and plans for the future were mushed into a liquid and then rapidly shockwaved out for miles under the ocean so even if we wanted to collect a portion of their liquids in a cup, we couldn't."
I would love if they did that had it been me. Shit sounds metal.
Yeah, there are people missing and getting kidnapped everyday, but thank God msm covered a bunch of rich fricks for the last 4 days. Definitely not a distraction
did it really just crush instantly? or did it take a few seconds to implode for the crew to briefly realize what was happening?
Oh they definitely knew it was going to happen, but once it actually happened, it was instantaneous.
>they definitely knew it was going to happen
No, it would have simply been instantaneous. The forces at work here would result in an instantaneous catastrophic failure. The moment a piece of the structure fails the forces would rip everything to shit before consciousness would register what is happening. Your eyes would pop before you could see what was happening; your skull would kill your brain before whatever remaining senses registered on it. When people die their brains still get a few seconds of oxygen to register what is going on but that doesn't happen here because their brains are milkshake in an instant. There is a skyscraper's weight on everything at this depth, which goes to say that the sub was holding back a skyscraper until it couldn't.
The ONLY good news to come of all this is that this thing was built so fricking badly that structural failure wasn't held back at all and they died quickly and not of oxygen deprivation.
I imagine they meant knew as in they knew something was wrong and they could die at any moment.
According to James Cameron, his sources claimed the sub had dropped its weights and was trying to come back up right before the implosion. If that's true, they had enough time to figure out that something was wrong, but they still wouldn't have had enough time to suffer once the implosion happened. So basically this anon got it right
It likely would have crushed in on itself within milliseconds. No one one board would have had any idea what was happening to them.
they would have known they were in trouble but potentially not that they were fricked. sensors would have been going off and it looks like they were taking measures to ascend. very possible that they still had hope; when it finally did happen, it would have been completely instantaneous, and their bodies would have been completely destroyed before they had even a fraction of the time needed to perceive it
>sensors would have been going off
Despite this whole fricking thing being built for as cheap as possible, the sensor that monitored integrity of the carbon fibre would only give a warning fractions of a second before the point of failure. This isn't a failure of the sensor itself but the fact of the nature of the material that when it gives there's no warning, it will fail immediately.
Who knows right now exactly what other sensors were available in this piece of shit but it's just fricking hilarious that the one we know about isn't fricking relevant in a survival situation and probably is only used in research applications. And speaking of research applications, it's worth pointing out that the director they fricking fired was likely fired because among other things he insisted on non-destructive testing of the hull, which we have to presume also didn't happen.
I feel like every single safety manager in the world is just feeling exceptionally superior right now regardless of how seriously they take their job. Every single legitimate account you hear about this fricking thing is something a safety manager would fricking get fired for under any industrial safety audit. It's just so fricking bad that auditors would probably insist the safety manager's boss should be disciplined if not fired. In this sorry story we just know they fired the safety manager and his boss is now squid food.

So what political happening has this shit been used to cover up for? Who got caught committing treason or diddling kids this time?
Probably still Biden's shit. His son plead guilty to the gun and tax shit and got a slap on the wrist. A bunch of republicans and kodak black got pissy, also they're still trying to push the whole "Biden definitely took Bribes as Veep" but keep getting red tape around just being able to drop any recordings or anything.
He pled guilty to the misdemeanor tax charges so the prosecutor would drop the felony gun charge. Not saying that's "better" but it's hard to not see him do jailtime the other way.
