Black Christmas (1974) remains the most unsettling film for me personally. I love it, it's the only movie that consistently rattles me each time I see it, in particular the ending.
The 2006 version is a decent horror-comedy, but the original is a bona fide classic and the ultimate 70s slasher. Even if you personally don't find it frightening, you will discover it is a well made motion picture.
Watching The Exorcist when I was 11 or 12 years old by myself fricked me up pretty bad. Keep in mind this was early 90s so the special effects were dated but not laughably outdated like they are now
I dont know if scary would be the correct word, but Hereditary is objectively the most unsettling, depressing and disturbing movie that came close to “scaring” me as an adult. When I was a kid though, Bride of Chucky absolutely fricked me up. Now I watch it and laugh. Only thing that scares me as a kid and an adult are “realistic” alien movies like the fourth kind or alien abduction incident at lake county
i still don't undertsand how people can take american ''''horror'''' films seriously, since most of them suck. Insidious and paranormal activity are the exception though, damn good movies.
>Insidious and paranormal activity are the exception though
I don't understand how you can pretend to hate American horror but then post that you love two movies that are the epitome of modern American jumpscare horror. If you like those then you're the target audience for most of the horror that Hollywood releases.
people who enjoy comedy slashers "horror" movies and recommend them to people who are looking for a scary experience are the fart sniffers of the genre. Comedy slashers are not good nor scary nor horror.

I'm watching this now.
It better be good, rabbi.

'06 version sucks but the chicks are top tier so there's that.
It's a great film, but I would say it's particularly scary.
An Open Secret
I guess pic related. Also, Jurassic Park used to frick me up as a kid, despite it being one of my favorite films. Truly horrifying.

Jumpscare: the movie
Honestly? Antichrist. I don't think I've ever been so unsettled and even downright scared at a movie.
Second place is Skinamarink, believe it or not.
>no jumpscares

What people find scary is so subjective, but I think this one is a safe bet.
