The whole point is, that he could have stopped the guy right then and there, but chose not to act. His uncle ended up dead. The point of the line "with great power comes great responsibility" initially was, that when Peter became strong, he could have beaten his bully... but after the death of Ben Parker, it's re-contextualized. The point is, that he should use his power proactively, for the benefit of others.

At the risk of sounding like a 40 year old boomer marketer that thinks selfies and dabbing is still hip, how come there aren't any streamer superheroes? You'd think a modern day super hero would be a big e-prostitute that posts all their busts on every social media site. Closest I can think of is Kamala who writes smutty fanfiction of her heroes.

The original story from AF15 is that Pete lets a guy robbing Vince McMahon's dad go and the butterfly effect of that leads to said robber going to Uncle Ben's house and killing him in a failed B&E. They letter expanded on this by saying that the house Ben and May owned used to be rented by the robber.
So Pete saves lives because he buys into some kind of idea of Catholic guilt/karmic destiny

His entire motivation for protecting the helpless, and fighting villians, can be summed up with the line 'with great power comes great responsibility'.

If you think about it, Spiderman and superheroes in general would probably have a very low impact on crime. In a city like New York, you'd pretty much be zipping from one crime to another back to back all night and probably get as much done as any beat cop would have.

Yeah. I don't think they pretend otherwise. It's just with Superheroes they're much more likely to be able to handle a situation without anyone else getting hurt.

Beat cops don't hospitalise or otherwise subdued 6-20 suspects a night, every night. And once someone makes a reputation for themselves it makes their enemies think twice. Crime would decrease significantly in proportion to Spiderman's actual operating capacity purely out of fear

would it work irl? i think you'd sooner have government put a task force for his capture rather than getting to this point. I'm also not sure an "average joe" with sudden superpowers would hold well for long with beating people every night, even if they're criminals.

IIRC Peter and his family are Catholics. By inference Peter Parker received his powers by the will of God and possesses a character fit to bear the burden and weather the violence without turning to evil

What do you mean? Anyone endowed with power from Heaven (the Apostles) proved their character and resist evil until the very end (they were martyred), except one who died of old age in exile on a barren island (John of Patmos)

Divine right is power on earth permitted by Heaven. Spider-Mans power is more like power from Heaven sent down to earth

You'd have to be hauling fricking ass non stop to stop that many people, if it's even possible. Crimes are usually just one suspect, and can be miles apart from eachother, and can happening at the same time. Criminals already run a risk of being imprisoned, beat up, or even shot anyways and that doesn't stop them. Most criminals are low IQ Blacks who can't think more than 5 minutes ahead so consequences don't really matter.

I've never read the comics but surely Spiderman could just beat some low-level grunt and work his way up the ladder, gathering intelligence to ambush illegal deals and sabotage operations. He is a genius after all, he won't just swing around the city at his leisure if he has something better to do

            Anonymous

J'yeah, I guess he'd be good against organized crime because he doesn't have to worry about all the restrictions of law enforcement. But Mobs make up a small percentage of violent crime. Even low level mobsters make too much money to mug people or rob convencience stores unless they're just a complete pyschopath and enjoy doing it which isn't unheard of.

Yeah and giving money to a homeless guy isn't going to make him not homeless.
Donating money to Africa isn't going fix their problems either.
Posting on forums and social media won't change people's minds either.
Might as well do nothing right?

His inaction led to his uncle (really his father figure) dying.
He had the power to stop him (safely) due to his superhuman abilities but didn't because the robber was robbing someone who fricked him over.
    He felt guilty over this.

The last conversation with his uncle was about him doing the right thing as a man (and with his power), he interprets this as stopping crime.

Other than vanity or fame what else could you do with superhuman strength and reflexes? I guess he could be a supersoldier but be probably doesn't want to kill people.
