it’s a mediocre motel chain, ironically not even that prevalent in the American South West. La Quinta is far better
agreed
I see that you are a gentleman of refined taste .
“Closed Circuit” 1978
Frick bro. I can't watch a frame of this final sequence without getting chills and tearing up. Why is it so kino?
A man will search his heart and soul,
Go searchin' way out there...
His peace of mind, he knows he'll find
But where, oh Lord? Lord, where?
Ride away...
Ride away....
Ride awayyyy.........
Ford and the Duke captured America's soul in this movie. Ugly, rugged and transcendently beautiful all wrapped in the same package.
Frick, I wanna snort a line with Scorsese right now.
God ai love the way that old celluloid captures the contrast and colors. Combine that with the Duke and that classic John Ford score and you have peak American sovl. Shame what a corpse our country is now
no country for old men
Not a western
overrated
reminder that john wayne was a homo
Just because you want him to frick you doesn't make him a homo
>no u!
seethe little homosexual
You, uh, you take a lot of acid back in the hippy days, anon?
Wrong, he was a Nazi, not anymore.
Clint Eastwood sets the standard
>The Outlaw Jose Wales
>Pale Rider
>Unforgiven
>Dollars trilogy
Others
>3:10 to Yuma (surprised me how good this was)
>Tombstone
>True Grit (try both original and new one with Jeff Bridges)
Should keep you busy for a while.
Unironicly
Young Guns 2
Clint and Wayne are both overrated. They are cardboard cutouts. I like some of their movies (High Plains Drifter, Stagecoach) but don't really care for their westerns.
The best Westerns are ones with lesser stars in them like The Big Gundown, 3:10 To Yuma, The Big Country, The Great Silence and so on.
>Lesser stars like Gregory Peck, Burl Ives, and Charlton Heston
I mean yeah but they're not known for their westerns. Even guys like Van Cleef are bit actors your average normie won't know about. And yet they're better films. I've seen a frick load of westerns friend and unless you have some level of star power, your movie is not gonna be good.
John Wayne and Clint Eastwood don't have star power? Duke especially was one of the most charismatic actors in the business and the most popular lead actor for like 30 straight years
They do but their Westerns are pretty boring. Ford even said he didn't think his westerns were his best work.
Which ones have you seen that you didn't like?
John Wayne movies have had a pretty huge effect on most directors. The Searchers was probably Martin Scorsese's biggest influence and Quentin Tarantino constantly cites Rio Bravo as one of the best movies ever made. Orson Welles watched Stagecoach over and over before making Citizen Kane.
>John Wayne movies suck
>Which ones have you seen?
>[crickets]
Every time
They just don't do much for me. I like Westerns as a genre and I got into them because I wanted to have a better understanding of the development of film archetypes but my opinion is what it is. If they're influential, that's great, I just don't care for them that much. She Wore A Yellow Ribbon is one of the most boring movies I've ever seen. I've probably seen 80% of them.
The Shootist is Wayne's most underrated probably. So much so Eastwood ripped it off for Gran Torino.
I like how in addition to posting my opinion that I don't care for them, posted ones of theirs I do like, and then a couple of other movies that I do like. have a nice day. Immediately.
Don't care.
>Clint and Wayne are both overrated.
Shit-tier opinion.
There Was A Crooked Man
the badass one where Clint Eastwood is a Proud Pedo
Don't know about best but The Tall T is seriously underrated
I recently saw Hired Hand with Peter Fonda which was also good
I also like Spikes' Gang but that's more of an anti western
Planning on seeing Culpepper Cattle Co next, anyone seen it?
Once Upon a Time in the West. There's one called One Eyed Jacks (directed by and starring Marlon Brando) that's a bit less known but excellent as well.
For me? Its For a Few Dollars More
Blood Meridian
for me its pic related
Completely unironically
Next are spaghetti westerns, especially those made by Nero, Corbucci, Leone, and Petroni
And only then most of the grand studio slop.
High Noon is campy but still a favorite.
