Did you know that was the first ever buddy cop movie? Without 48 Hrs, movies like Lethal Weapon, Bad Boys, and Rush Hour wouldn't exist.

there has to be an earlier one, also i hate to break it to you but eddie murphy is not a cop in those movies, he's a career criminal let out of prison to help nick nolte

I know, but the buddy cop genre doesn't require both characters to be cops, so it is still considered one. You are right about the fact that there was an earlier buddy cop movie, "Freebie and the Bean" starring James Caan and Alan Arkin, but "48 Hrs." is responsible for the popularity of the genre.

Also, it bears mentioning that Eddie Murphy being a criminal is far more based than him being a cop anyway.

he was doing sketchy ass shit during all the Beverly Hills Cop movies anyway. it's better this way. he's a smart character.
