Almost every other show Watanabe has done is better.
I haven’t watched much anime but I liked Cowboy Beebop. It feels very grounded and not over the top like other anime I’ve tried to watch. I think YuYu Hakusho was my favorite I’ve ever watched, I remember really liking Samurai Champloo as well.

My god the pacing in that whole show is awful, and I still don't know how or why there was a super smart alcoholic penguin.

It has been said already, but Sailor Moon influenced a very large deal of anime. I think only Dragon Ball could really challenge it, but even then, Sailor Moon is still the victor

Sailor Moon was hugely important in popularizing the Magic Girl genre but I wouldn't say it was particularly influential on the medium as a whole anyway, the big title there is the '70s Space Battleship Yamato series which basically every major anime director of the following decades would cite as inspiration

I remember the opening scene featured a POV shot from the main female lead. She was in some maintenance corridor on a ship (or in a base). She was lost, and carrying some metal tubes.
Then through a wacky chain of events she ends up piloting a mech to fight the aliens or whatever, and despite being a total klutz she is very successful.
