Convergent evolution. The AK is just such a superior weapons design that pretty much every civilization which invents firearms will invent something identical to the AK-47.

There are lots of AK inspired designs that are more or less the same functionally but they still look drastically different

      No excuses

um ACTUALLY the original weapons were all kitbashed from real life guns so of course the ak47 could exist there!!

      Kitbashed is key word

also where did all the black/latino/asian people go, the prequels happened with like 2 black people and a few asians, then there's an explosion post prequels, then they disappear for the original trilogy, then they reappear after the original trilogy

where the frick did they go?

In all fairness all of Star Wars' blasters were based on real WWII era firearms, and it looks like they're going for a guerilla aesthetic here so the Kalashnikov is an apt weapon to use, but they didn't really dress it up at all.

Still, I'll take it over them spraypainting some convoluted hunk of PVC pipes and Nerf blasters because the writers think real guns are too problematic to show on screen.

pointed out you already had rebel AK blasters that we’re distinct enough to fit in but still had the guerrilla aesthetic

Remove/replace the handguard, shave down the front post, screw something laser-y looking on the front post, remove the magazine, add a chunky scope

    Voila, it's now a blaster

That's not an AK-47, but it should be. Having a weapon that does not immediately give away your position by firing a big gay laser beam is a massive tactical advantage in a guerilla combat scenario

it would be, if you weren't going against armored troopers
there's a reason they use the gay lasers
