This board has a lot of knowledge of lotr but the thing that i always feel a lot of people may not know (because I never see it mentioned) is that Sauron's hubris is actually ENTIRELY justified. There is absolutely no being on middle earth who would be able to overcome the ring's influence so close to the source of its creation and actually choose to destroy the ring. Eru literally had to weave the destruction of the ring into his song if ceeation (Gollum tripping).
No of course not, I just mean when people question how he left the mouth of mt doom unguarded, or how he didn't even consider anyone would try to destroy the ring... That part is actually justified. Eru had to intercede to destroy the ring; at that point, nothing Sauron did would have really mattered.
>Frodo deserved all honour because he spent every drop of his power of will and body, and that was just sufficient to bring him to the destined point, and no further. Few others, possibly no others of his time, would have got so far. >The other power then took over: the Writer of the story (by which I do not mean myself), that one ever-present Person who is never absent and never named.
>Tolkien's cryptic horseshit from letter whoozit to John Q Dingus
not in the book
not canon
Kind of defeats the whole purpose like why didn't Eru just destroy the ring himself if he is going to interfere like that

Its fate. Its not a reactive intercession, but rather the entire narrative we read was part of Eru's will. It wouldn't have happened any other way, couldn't have. It doesn't defeat the purpose of the story or the struggle people go through in it. As Tolkien said, Eru was the writer of the story.

So Tolkien thinks that people do not have free will?
The oldest thing shown in the movies was Aragorns ring, which predates the 1st age
Which ring?

I think men in lotr canonically do have free will, and I believe Morgoth's rebellion was not in Eru's plan.
>Eru did it
Sauron's hubris was part of the ring when it decided to curse gollum to die if he ever touched it again, some 5 minutes before gollum touched it again and immediately died.
It was 100% Sauron's fault.

Peter Jackson consulted the last living hobbit 2 years before filming on how to best portray them in the films. That poor hobbit died 3 weeks before he could see the film, but he did get to tour the Shire set.
During the filming of Two Towers Steven Seagal appeared on set fully in-costume as Theoden. When Peter Jackson asked what he was doing there he demanded in broken Elvish that he be addressed as Theoden, King of Rohan, claiming that his ancestors actually fought against Saruman at Helm's Deep. Seagal refused to leave the set, and when security was called he squatted and defecated in front of everyone, saying, "This is how a real king shits." Seagal was then escorted off the set by Viggo Mortensen, who promised him access to the catering table.
Tolkien called Sam the "chief hero" of the saga, adding: "I think the simple 'rustic' love of Sam and his Rosie (nowhere elaborated) is absolutely essential to the study of his (the chief hero's) character, and to the theme of the relation of ordinary life (breathing, eating, working, begetting) and quests, sacrifice,
Elven breast milk is sweeter than honey from the finest hives. In the book it explains that Elves were not allowed to be wet nurses for other races or even help in child rearing. That's why that entire chapter is cut out of the movies for being so controversial
drats, I used the wrong picture.

his hubris was justified then but his actions trying to take over middle earth weren't

Is the fact that Eru interceded in the actual book, or in one of the appendixes?
Its from Letter 192 of Tolkien's letters

This board has a lot of knowledge but I never see discussions like I see on onering.net
like the other day I saw this thread there about how the orcs that have speaking roles in the movie always come in 2's
are you being serious anon or are you legitimately stupid?
It was a whole long thing where instead of a single character explaining exposition, the pairs of orcs revealed things via their bickering

Amazing.
Warwick Davis still lives
That's kinda beautiful :')
That 3 hour long versions of each movie exist.
count dooku had to explain to the director what its like to get stabbed
Sauron holds a dagger in the opening sequence of the movie because he was meant to create the ring from his own blood after cutting his hand.

Galadriel's height
the book says she's tall
tolkien elves were taller and stronger than men, making them twinks is a modern fantasy trope.
I want Galadriel and Debicki in a giraffe threeway.
The oldest thing shown in the movies was Aragorns ring, which predates the 1st age
The Eagles couldn't carry the ring because it would have corrupted them. Gandalf and Galadriel refuse to carry the ring for the same reason.
Samwise Gamgee was the actual true hero of the entire trilogy
No
