they adapted the same general plotline I think but pretty much any seriously gory violence was left out until the Governor breakin (who was much less hyperbolic evil in the show)

They changed a lot , some for the best and some for the worst, the prison welcomed a lot more survivors into it and it actually became a nice community, things got fricked tho.

Vietnam Vet Punisher leaves the man he hates most gutshot in the middle of the woods knowing no help will come, the worst death Frank saw during the war.
The whole point is that the guy was going out of his way to get Frank's attention, so Frank killed him in the most impersonal (but still long and painful) way possible.

Wally didn't do that to Zoom on purpose, he was rapidly losing the fight and pushed him into one of the space time rips that opened up in Hunter’s wake.
The whole point is that Nicky Cavella made Frank realize he was getting too absorbed in the enjoyment of the violence of it all when his "crusade" was only ever meant to take scumbags off the street. Frank still killed Nicky brutally and painfully since he made it personal but he restrained himself from going full torture porn with it.

Hard to take this seriously when we all know why super villain recidivism happens. Who'd he kill anyway? Anyone who matters who didn't just come back? Some no name one off they explicitly made so Punisher could off and then act like we're supposed to take anything he says seriously.
This feels like the X-Men problem, but in reverse. Punisher only works when he's silo'd off into his own underworld of normal crime shit. The minute you try to have him act holier than thou with supervillain killing is the moment it all falls apart.
What’s hard to take seriously is that Frank is always right. I don’t buy that he’s never killed innocent people. The amount of shooting he does theirs probably graveyards of bystanders dead at his hands and the idea he’s never killed someone for a crime they didn’t commit is silly.

You just have to if you want to read Punisher comics in the same way you just have to accept that Batman can get in all those fights and gun battles and walk away every time. It's fundamental to the kind of story. Frank is always right and never hurts people who don't deserve it and the people he does hurt are the absolute worst scum of the earth.

the thing is, the instant some nice characters team up with punisher, punisher will start running into guys that dont deserve to be killed. because guys that deserve to be killed and don't deserve to be are all creations of the writers.
Cause he's an unreal power fantasy that's appealing in concept but if allowed to go unvetted in the real world will have copycats mucking it up with their own "justified" worldviews and end up killing innocents if their great actions justify it.
