Space is real but the pictures are fake. If we could go to space, all those galaxies and nebulas we know from NASA pictures would look nothing like they do in the pictures because they're heavily edited.

No, they would look a lot like the pictures to your naked eye if you were floating in space the right distance away. There are lots of them where the colors are distorted but there are also ones that are pretty close to what your eye would see.

Youre assuming that two galaxies which are “close together” are even actually side by side in the first place. For example, are all of the stars in the night sky side by side? What if two appear to be about the same size and brightness? One could be a lot smaller but closer to you.

So you admit that none of those galaxies look like they do in the pictures NASA shows us

So what you're saying is... that's not what space really looks like and the image is faked.

          Gotcha!

Not at all. All the colors I see are visible colors. You are admiting that NASA puts colors into their pictures to represent non-visible stuff. Hence galaxies don't actually look the way NASA claims they do. Why do you refuse to admit that?

Our eyes can't see infrared but it has its own spectrum of wavelengths those are just shifted. Near IR is converted to blues, Far IR is converted to reds.

you know, i didn't really care too much that space images were edited to make things more visible. But it only just occurred to me how pale, depressing and dark the universe really is. Like if you go out in a space ship and look out the window it would just be black with occasional specs of white. And, I'm not that anon, but I would say yes.

Now, if you're trying to show off how good of a green body suit it is, then you should show both the before and the after. But nobody wants to see space without color because unless you're an astrophysicist with the data in front of you, you'll have no idea what you're viewing.

when things are too far away they still emit light that humans can't perceive, but the telescope can measure. NASA replaces that light with colors (reds, blues) that we can perceive. if it emits light, it's there.

              Anonymous

Your eye interprets sensory data in exactly the same way NASA interprets data from the James Webb telescope. First of all how can you even be sure that colors are the same for you that they are for me? No image that you see is “real” its interpreted data, which is why you can hallucinate, or why some people can “see” sounds. If they changed values in the data, like moving pixel a from xy to wv, then it would be considered “fake.” All they are doing is mapping the data to colors that are visible for your brain to interpret. Its no different than putting thermal goggles, or something similar

lmao. I ask whether NASA images display galaxies as they truly look like and you have to go all philosophy 101 and question the veracity of all perception because you can't admit that they don't. I take this as an admission of defeat.

Go outside at midnight and noon to look at the same tree, does it look the same? The colours will appear different based on how much light is reflected off of it. Does that mean the tree isn’t real, or what what you see isn’t real?

True, I thought the reasons they chose IR were primarily:
                1. Visible spectrum is blocked by interstellar dust, IR penetrates it
                2. Redshift of the furthest galaxies is so large it enters the IR spectrum
                3. Warm gasses emit in the IR range, allowing a better understanding of the non-luminous materials

Given that stars emit in ranges we can see, there’s not reason we can’t image them in the visible wavelengths, it’s just that your wouldn’t see much as you look deeper into space (which was the purpose of the telescope in the first place).

I can understand the disappointment in the limitations of our bodies to perceive the world, but it doesn’t really matter as we can see our own galaxy and Andromeda in “real color” and they all pretty much look alike.

They couldn't because of size constraints from the rocket system used to launch it. You can't make a single round lens that could fold up like the hexagon setup they used. It's made up of individual hexagons that can move around on their own to allow it to focus properly.

We have the money to do all of those things you know. Take a look at the US military budget then take a look at everything else it spends money on. We can absolutely do it all and even if you think we somehow can't, there's a whole tax system that multinational companies exploit to pay the least taxes impossible, we can always revamp that to get new revenue streams.

It's not a money issue and never was. It's a political one. We have the money and we have the legal mechanisms to fix these things, we just don't have the political will.

Willy Wonka was a pretty disappointing remake.
Space tech is expensive, yes, but it’s necessary for human advancement. There are asteroids out there and we need to develop our ability to spot and track these things.

thats such a ridiculously fake color altered shoop the entire horsehead nebula is kindve reddish, almost everything you see through a telescope is black and white
pic related is closest to what you actual see but way dimmer

Wow no way anon, you're so smart for realizing that NASA uses infra red light and colorizes photos. All this time I was wondering why the night sky wasn't glowing rainbow.

It was harder at the time to fake the lunar landing than to actually go to the moon. Also, if it really was fake, Soviet Russia would've called them out.

        Anonymous

I personally don't think the landings were faked, I'm just making fun of people that say shit like that but also believe literally everything else NASA says.

It does, just it doesn't take pictures fast enough. Also they weren't even sure it would work, and data rates make it not really worth it when it's not the primary payload.

Its a heckin interpretation of data and all interpretations of data are le real. You are asking the wrong question so I won't even humor you. If I make up stuff its still real because there is a spectrum and there is data.

Shirt is away 10 million light years. We can only detect it with sensors that dont show us its real color. But we can simulate its real color by coloring the colorless picture of the shirt we have.

Thats what NASA is doing. There is no hidden agenda.
