To trick audiences to seeing the same movie over and over as they try to hunt down all the "easter egg" differences.

They actually reference that in the movie, they say "poly-multiverse". Presumably because the MCU multiverse and the comics multiverse can't be the same thing given too many differences in supposedly multiversal law and events.

To be quirky. From the list I saw, it seemed inconsequential and you aren't really missing much. Probably something done so youtubers can make a video pointing out the small differences between the versions.

Two versions is lazy tho. Some lists found as many as 11 differences. Randomizing those differences would make for 2048 versions, they literally could have a different version for every theater, now that would have been something else.
Or maybe they just had mercy of the couple of terminal autismos who would have watched the movie 2048 times to watch every version.

To get people to see the film more than once? I dunno. That is odd.

That's okay. I'll watch neither version.

This used to happen a bunch.

You may have heard of a little movie called CLUE? It had 3 different endings!

Think someone popularized it with a movie where you could vote on the ultimate fate of the protagonist. 'cept there was only ending, which would play regardless of the votes, leaving viewers thinking they were in the theaters with a pack of sadists. An interesting bit of meta horror.

I mean it did, but generally from theaters getting different cuts due to production frickery. Clue sending out 3 different endings was actually a fairly unique marketing gimmick centered on the whodunnit nature of the film.
