Winter setting, measured pacing, lonely protagonist quest, I see it. Though not specifically as a Christmas film, just a cold winter's day film.
my uncle is the janitor guy that walks past harrison in i think the hospital.
my uncle grew up in chicago with the director and were friends
thanks for listening
Whatever you and your family watch every year. For us it's Home Alone 2, The Grinch, or Elf (though that one hasn't held up since my sister and I grew older). You do spend Christmas with your family, don't you anon?
I just watched the George C. Scott version of A Christmas Carol last night. I have to say that it’s the best one I’ve seen. It felt like he actually was Scrooge.
inb4 muh muppets
I have never seen It's a Wonderful Life. I know its status as "the traditional Christmas film" passed several decades ago by now but still, I never saw it.
You won't like it if you don't like other films of that era. It's incredibly sincere in a way that's been out of vogue for decades. It can come across as overacting if you aren't used to it. But it's a very touching story about the rewards of selflessness and the intrinsic value of human life.
The town was objectively more dour and lifeless as Pottersville though.

Anon, why don't you go to the riffraff you love so much and ask them to let you have $8,000? You know why? Because they'd run you out of town on a rail. But I'll tell you what I'm going to do for you, anon. Since the state examiner is still here, as a stockholder of the Building and Loan, I'm going to swear out a warrant for your arrest. Misappropriation of funds, manipulation, malfeasance
Charlie Brown Christmas
Linus' great soliloquy about Christmas mentions God, by name, about 5 times
----and they bookend it with literally 10 seconds+ of pure silence.
that old Erica Campbell video where she finger blasts herself on some stairs with a Santa hat on while Sandstorm plays in the background
I'll al.ost certainly never see it again, but goddamn did 11yo me love it
We don't watch movies on Christmas. Mother plays piano and we sing songs. My sisters get really into it. They change into their holiday outfits and do a whole routine set to "jingle bell rock"
I watched Top Gun Maverick twice back to back last Christmas morning. Muted while everyone opened their presents and did their thing. Had a good time.
For me even though it is far from the light of Christ and is the embodiment of peak Boomer consumerism Jingle All The Way is an annual tradition. Its getting better with age too.
Die Hard
Prometheus
>that reflection
haha what an idiot
Miracle on 34th Street (1947)
You probably won't believe me, but it is actually The Fugitive

Home Alone hands down
It's a stereotypical answer but it really is the best movie to watch on Christmas Day
A Serbian Film

The Muppets one is really good, I don't know why you say it like that.
I say it like that because, whilst I enjoy the Muppet version, it isn’t as good as the 1984 version.
People who say whilst irritate me.
unironically:
The Bishop's Wife
picrel
>Santa's toy factory
Lewd

OK
It's ok.

I've seen plenty of films of that era, I just never saw that one.
George Bailey was a chump and Mr. Potter was correct that he was wasting his life babysitting a bunch of morons.
You'll probably enjoy it then. It's a bit long but the setup is important to the last act.
It wasn't a waste. That's what the entire movie is about.
>t. Can’t handle the HUSTLE AND BUSTLE of Pottersville
The town was objectively more dour and lifeless as Pottersville though.
