It eludes me to why he loves this, but he's watched it multiple times over multiple years. He was born in the 60's so he should have better taste.

he's just never expressed why he likes it. is it the characters? is it that they're in 1994 while in 2004?
He's many times quoted the "Tina you fat lard. Come get some dinner. Eat the FOOD" thing

(1). You don’t meet the ones that do nothing and say nothing, it’s a selection bias.
          (2) lots of dads can fake it around other people for 20 minutes but are still white rice in real life

This is my dad's favorite movie. He's pretty quiet 90% of the time and really awkward, even with his kids. I know he loves us though. He spends most of his free time drinking pilsner and browsing Shorpy. Pretty sure he's autistic. He really is a smart guy though, and anyone at his work can agree he carries the whole business.

because the movie is about enjoying the little things in life in stead of just waiting around for something important to happen.

it captures the ennui of being in highschool and being given the impression that you have to wait until you are an adult for your life to start, and this is perfectly matched by the guy they interacted with who is still attached to how he used to be good at foot ball in highschool but he waited around for life to happen and it never happened for him.
