Good fricking luck appreciating Multiverse of Madness or Thor Ragnarok if you've never watched any Marvel movies before. Even if you only watched Thor movies or Dr Strange movies, youd still not understand anything thats going on.

The newest film requires viewing of at least 2 prior movies and a television show to be cohesive. With each additional entry that calls back to previous movies the amount of necessary content to consume increases. Your argument that the basic assumption of these movies holds true doesn't change that fact. You could watch Return of the King and still understand the basic gist of the plot without having watched the prior 2 films, that does not mean they aren't required viewing to fully appreciate the product (however good or bad it is).

This phase is aimlessly meandering trash. Everyone movie/tv show is completely insignificant. Remember Lokis ending when everyone was like WOW THE MULTIVERSE IS STARTING HERE THIS IS GOING TO CHANGE THE WHOLE MCU. It’s never been mentioned again. It wasn’t even the cause of multiverse of madness. It was retconned already that it was Dr Stranges dumbass spell for Spider-Man. They can’t even connect the most basic shit anymore. Feels like none of the directors or creators are communicating with each other anymore. There is no cinematic universe anymore. Just throwing out bait to see if something catches popularity. If it does, they may bring it back. If it doesn’t it’ll be forgotten instantly and retconned by something else

      Anonymous

The multiverse makes everything seem irrelevant, anyway. For every universe where avengers die, there is another where they live.

        Anonymous

The Multiverse only seems irrelevant because they're handling the Multiverse like shit.
Doctor Strange completely half assed it.
Spider-Man was fun but felt like a set-up for Doctor Strange which, half assed it.
WandaVision was also a set up for Doctor Strange which, you guessed it, half assed it.
The only Multiverse story that seemed compelling was Loki. And they almost pretend it holds no weight on the overall story.

I believe in a few years we'll look back at Doctor Strange in The Multiverse of Madness as the first big frick up from Feige and his team. They oversold and under-delivered.

Which is insane considering the arsenal of characters Disney currently has. If Marvel Studios isn't currently playing a long set up for Secret Wars they're proper fricked. From Wesley Snipes as Blade to James Marsden as Cyclops. I mean you bring back everyone.

      Anonymous

It is likely this movie will do fairly well. I suspect it will make north of 600 million. But it is yet another worrying sign for Marvel, as it is possibly the last movie of yet another mainstay. After Hemsworth is gone, there will be few stars left to carry the franchise. Holland has expressed on more than one occasion that he wants to retire in his role, at that point you will have essentially Pratt to act as the face of the series with numerous new additions that have not been received well. If you have no Iron Man, no Cap, no Thor, no Spider-Man, no Ant Man, no Hulk, no Black Widow, no Scarlet Witch, what the frick do you have? All of the successors they have set up have been a total bust, can you imagine an Avengers with fem Thor, black Cap, the Wasp, Captain Marvel, and maybe Dr. Strange? Shit is going to suck dude.

Okay I know what to do. What we need is more quips. Especially jokes where a female character emasculates a male character. More diversity because come on it's 2022. Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie was a stroke of genius.

i had a feeling this would be shit purely because people gave Thor: Ragnarok such high praise. that movie was mostly good because the previous two thor movies sucked ass so there were low expectations and we actually got a pretty fun and competent movie. now there are high expectations so of course they'd frick it up. Ragnarok was a fun side story with only three characters we knew going in fricking off to a place that is basically irrelevant to the broader story/MCU and have a little adventure. This movie, they're shoving so much shit in like Thor, natalie porman, that black girl, the guardians of the galaxy, the other little friends thor met in the last movie like the rock guy, probably loki, etc. just seems like a mess

      Anonymous

      >the previous two thor movies sucked ass so there were low expectations and we actually got a pretty fun and competent movie.
I never saw The Dark World but I legitimately liked the first Thor and thought it did a good job telling the story of Thor being forced to learn humility and humanity.
I didn't like Ragnarok, I felt like it was trying to hard to be funny and made Thor into a bit of an idiot. I also don't feel like Thor really learned anything or grew as a person.

        Anonymous

Dark World was the weakest MCU movie when it was released. The plot is dumb, they kill off his mother for no reason, and then Loki is 'killed" and then somehow impersonating his father, with no explaination. You can fast forward through the Portman sequences, because they're irrelevant.
Then Thor for no good reason turns down the throne? Why? He didn't cause any events of the movie, and saved the day. And the whole 'dark elves" bullshit was the weakest antagonist ever.

Ragnarok is fun (at times), and goth death mommy Cate, even though it's too much of that butthole Ruffalo, and "yas qwayne" Thompson, and a phoned in performance by Goldblum. But it didn't suck as hard as Dark World did, so it's considered a "triumph" by the Feige asslickers. It's not the worst MCU, I'd put it in the "watchable, but not offensive or boring" middle of the list, above the Eternals and Shang Chink.

          Anonymous

the biggest problem with Ragnarok is that it tells jokes during supposedly serious scenes, so you never feel that the stakes are actually ever high. critics are saying that this new movie basically does that even more.

The MCU has always had quips and Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best MCU movies that I agree with, but it seems like the MCU's takeaway from GOTG is that they should just go completely wild with the comedic tones and not put as much effort into the writing as they should. Look at how they "fixed" Thor movies, they just turned them into knockoff GOTG movies. Ragnarok's success dealt the second blow, and it all resulted in Love and Thunder.

That's because they don't really have to carry their own movies anymore. Even Spider-man had Doctor Strange and his special effects crew helping him out to paint over what a godawful swiss cheese plot NWH had.

It's the only D+ show I liked. Hiddleston carries it and he's got chemistry with Owen Wilson. It's honestly pretty comfy. The only thing that ruins it is that they turned Kang into a Black person.

Loki is shit. They retcon the whole MCU for no reason, and this Loki is a "variant" who doesn't matter to the mainstream stories in the MCU. They just cashed in on the popularity of Hiddleston, but he's dead in the main timeline. The story itself is really fricking dumb. Hiddleston tries, but even his talent can't rise above the shit writing and directing.

They could have done a prequel to him, shown him torturing his brother as a teen or something, but that would have driven the budget through the roof getting the mainstream characters onto the show.

The Disney+ shows are VERY low budget, like the Lucas TV shows. They're not putting the same money into them like the movies, and they rarely have more than one or two big names in them.

Ruins the character, completely butchers everything about the multiverse, writers project their gay logic onto every character and female Loki was cringe. Carried by Tom and Wilson and the soundtrack was pretty good for a marvel show

a Thor God of Thunder comic run from 2013. It was very well received by fans as far as modern comics go due to its great art and a really good story. For some reason in this new movie, they picked Gorr, the main villain from that story arc but apparently nothing else from it.

When did writers forget how to write compelling female characters?
Like I remember Raven and Starfire in the Teen Titans cartoons, to this day women my age tell me how much they loved them and how cool they thought they were. Terminator 2 took Sarah Connor from a helpless woman who needed Kyle Reese to save her from the robot to a legitimate badass focused on preparing her son to lead the resistance and it didn't feel forced, and more importantly it didn't feel like they stapled breasts onto a male character; the fact that she was a woman and a mother was integral to her character.
I just don't get it. If the idea is to get more women in media they are more than capable of doing it without pissing people off.

            Anonymous

Because they come from the wrong ideological angle.
If you believe women aren't naturally heroes and depend upon men for their safety (the truth), then you can differentiate the female character ala Sarah Connor and make us believe in her transformation.
But if you believe women are le real heroes being held down by dumb patriarchal male oppressors, then you don't have to develop the female character, she just *is* smarter and more capable than the men, and acts like a resentful b***h for being le held down and oppressed.
Basically if you don't incorporate reality into your writing and start with ideology instead, it's automatically going to be shit.

Well, if you're gonna be honest, the MCU untangled an ungodly mess in the comic lore to get an understandable story line across muiltiple movies. Now they faced the same issue, in that the comic lore is an ungodly mess that only got 1000000x worse over the last decade. The comics go in so many directions, it would be impossible to follow them.
I honestly don't think Feige knows what plot to follow, they don't have anyone who could craft one, like Favreau since he left for Lucas, and they're just seeing which way the wind blows.

I don't count the two multiverse movies as successes for the MCU either. Spider-Man was so massive off the back of Sony movies work. MOM only got so much hype basically because of false advertising, and once people figured out what it really was, it fell off hard. Thor is the big litmus test for me, he's an OG Avenger and people loved Ragnarok. If it doesn't do well, MCU might be dead for real instead of meme dead.

The whole industry was on a downward spiral from 2000 to 2009. We would get some kino's here and there but the industry as a whole was weak and the movies were bad.

90% of the Marvel flicks are fricking boring. The OG movies from phase one got people hooked. They followed the same blueprint, but they played it safe, had good actors, nice visuals and good jokes. The Avengers was an absolute histeria, and it became what defined Marvel. It was the chain of solo movies and group movies which followed and underlying backstory, which culminated in the Infinity War, the sense of an epic saga that people wanted to follow through to see the ending.
And it ended. The coherency fell apart, we have half dozen series going on simultaneously, new movies every 3 months with a plethora of new characters but the same old type of boring story with the same old jokes and without the characters people grew to love.

No one will reply to you because it goes against their narrative. Most of the anons here haven't even read the reviews let alone seen the movie.

What narrative? You creeps are on here defending this poorly cobbled together pedo church product and saying WE have a narrative? Lmfao look at yourself.

Which is weird because before the trailer came out everyone was hype. Then the trailer came out and people were pretty excited.. THEN Doctor Strange came out and the interest for Thor seemed to plummet.
The closer we've got to Thor 4 release date the less and less people seem to be. This will be the first summer in a decade that isn't dominated by the MCU.

the outrage youtubers have nothing to do with the destruction of these franchizes. They simply try to profit off of it because lots of people have negative feelings towards these once beloved franchizes and want their opinions confirmed.

it's not just the youtubers. there definitely is a trend of people being aggrieved and outraged over very unimportant things. youtubers are partly driving it, but people increasingly have very strong opinions about movies/videogames they've never played or watched.

The Batman. It's a pretty solid detective story that doesn't just have Batman magically deduce the solution by fifty leaps of autistic logic or whip out a can of bat shark repellant spray.
Doctor Strange 2 was just incoherent.

Nobody solves it, the riddler basically wins. Batman does damage control and keeps them from literally killing the mayor then claims victory.
Batman still did most of the legwork with Gordon helping him and that hispanic cop near the very end didn't "solve" it, he was making small talk and accidentally pointed Batman in the right direciton.
