Single handedly brought Bond out of the 80s, the Cold War, and with early 90s style. Gave a classiness to Bond I haven't felt since the Sean Connery era. Shame Pierce era bond movies just declined after that with each release.
The "reset" movies from one Bond to another always have to be powerful, but Goldeneye took it to another level. Goldeneye almost doesn't need to be a Bond movie, it could be it's own thing. But quintessentially 90's Bond. It couldn't be any other way.
people are way too hard on his later movies though. although none of them were on the level of goldeneye. people seemed to be just getting more into the trend of more realistic action. which of course now we crave more of this stuff. funny how things cycle
TND and TWINE aren't unwatchable, but I do think they're let down by certain elements. >TND villain is a supervillain news mogul >Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist >TWINE villain has a bullet in his brain that makes him superhuman
I wish more movies sounded like that. That gong sound throughout the movie from time to time was great, too. Movies nowadays, and really, since the 2000s, are often too afraid of sounding too particularly unique, relying on now cliché orchestral or electronic scores that are not very adventurous with their music.
It has the perfect setting of being set just after the fall of the Soviet Union and the somewhat plausible plot of former Soviet generals, mobsters and a former MI6 operative using the fallout to make the most of it while they can. Every other bond movie is 'le secret super organization' nonsense super villain shit.
If they ever want to reboot this franchise again proper it needs to be set back in the 1960s and simply be about the real spy shit that was going on in Berlin
How about Bond just hunting down good old fashioned Muslim terrorists

what makes it so good and rewatchable?
I think it’s because the plot just moves so fluidly from cool scene to cool scene and never gets boring. Some Bond films have legit boring sequences whereas Goldeneye is pure Gold.
Daniel Craig's bond spent most of his time running around brown countries and it was boring as shit. There is nothing interesting about sand Black person countries or sand Black folk, nor is there anything interesting about seeing Bond 'out wit' 60 IQ minorities. Bond is about going toe to toe with the best and brightest minds in the world, it should always be purely about white counties with white populations and white villains, hence Bond simply has to be set in the past now where these things still existed

People have been saying this for years, especially since the series Mad Men became popular. I would not mind if the series went back in time, at least for a little while, but they should do it realistically instead of make things too extra sensitive for the 2020s and 2030s coming up.
Pierce Brosnan's extra wide mouth
>le heckin' epic meme, have an updoot fellow narwhal baconer!
confirmed
>It's not Casino Royale
Leave
Imagine watching Casino Royale by choice when Goldeneye exists

none of the russians being played by russians.
Gorky Park was a good film featuring non Russians playing Russians

Listening to this makes me realize they nailed the game's soundtrack even more than I previously thought.

Campbell's direction. He understands Bond as a character, something Mendes and Fukunaga don't.
>He understands Bond as a character
whuhhhh? Was this on the commentary track or something?
I couldn't beat the mainframe level so I rented this to figure out how. I should have just gotten a nintendo power instead.
eric serra's funky soundtrack

Campbell's direction. It's a movie that eats like a meal.
