Accept the fact you're being taken in that direction and try to externalize it a bit--youll probably come to the conclusion that it's not something you should let your mind be tied down in and just letting it wash over you will make your high/trip better.

but it COULD be the weed. what part of the world are you in and where did you get your weed? do you know if it was sativa, indica, or hybrid? was it flower or vape or...? there's a few variables which may contribute to your weed-induced paranoia.
but my gut feeling is that you are just one of those people who are mentally high strung or skittish like a cat who freaks out if you make a sudden movement. for me and many others it just allows you to relax, and depending on the strain it can open the floodgates of your creativity and allowing your thoughts to pour out like an ever-flowing stream. sometimes it may not necessarily be "creative" thoughts but just a rapid succession of random thoughts and connections you make at lightspeed, which is further intensified by the effects of the weed which may cause you to feel like time is slowing down.

If something is supposed to be pleasurable but it feels like shit, you shouldn't do it. I am much happier now than I ever was at any time during my weed-smoking career and alot of dudes I know my age that are still smoking seem to be in arrested development.

I did enjoy it for those 20 years, until the end. Now I have actually rewarding things I do and I am much happier. Most of the fellows my age who are still smoking weed seem to be stuck at a certain age of their lives and if they have anything at all to show for themselves it is because their old lady dominates them. They are mentally weak passive hedonists for the most part, stuck in cycles of onanist consumption. There are some exceptions but by and large weed is alright for kids and very old men, not for those bent on creation and overcoming.

Chances are you're smoking weed with too much THC for your tolerance, and you're "overdosing", you're getting so high that the CBD can't even it out and your brain starts spazzing
Get a strain with more CBD in it, and I recommend starting with pencils: 1/3 weed, 2/3 rolling baccy, cardboard roach, in a rizla/rolling paper. If you're smoking blunts or bongs then stop that, you're not ready for it

I gave up smoking dope about 10 years ago despite loving it so that I could have a shitty commercial construction job that does random piss tests. I'm a borderline alcoholic as a result. I wish to relive the glory of smoking a good ol' joint but I have others that depend on me so I can't necessarily risk it unfortunately. I also wish that there was some kind of law that barred piss tests for thc as discriminatory because it's not like it filters out degenerates. I've dealt with so many dangerous alcoholic water-heads in my line of work that it's astounding.
