That's not a good criticism. The actors do a very good job and you couldn't get show monkeys to beat on each other and touch the monolith they way they did.
This. 2001 is the greatest cinematic experience you can have. Also everyone in this thread has been wrong so far. It's a 5/5 and mainstream cinemas finest accomplishment. 35 minutes of no dialogue at the beginning and end of the film. That will never happen in a large production again.
Just watched for the first time today, visually and cinematically it's a perfect 5/5. I get why they got him to do the moon landing. At the time, as a sci-fi film, it must have been absolutely mind blowing. However after nearly 60 years it can get diluted among the masses. How many times can you see a guy drift away from a space ship? Even as a story it's still a solid 4/5. It's told really well through the 3 distinct acts.
Me and my roommate were high on acid the first time I watched it. I kept having to remind myself that it was just a movie, I was completely enthralled. Best movie watching experience I've ever had
5/5 visuals, the moon meeting needed to be fleshed out more. >I'm afraid I can't do that Dave
was kino, everything about that part was 5/5
Overall though, a 4/5. The ending is a weird departure from the rest of the movie and makes no sense whatsoever >inb4 le [fill in the blank with some dumb headcannon, the meaning of life, he went in a black hole, kubrik said xyz or whatever] it fricking sucked
The visuals?
5/5
The movie itself?
2.5/5
2.5 or 3
4.9
It would have been a 5 if he used real monkeys instead of a bunch of dudes in obvious monkey costumes

Style - 5/5
Substance - 1/5
Are you a bot or just a bad troll? 2001 probably has more substance behind it than any sci film ever made.
Bait and contrarianism
clearly there's no substance to it, and it's just the ravings of a mad man
4.5/5
How is this film recommended nowadays? Is it like a get stoned challenge?
5.
For technical achievement: 5/5
For entertainment value: 3/5
For tripping on ketamine: 12/10
It's obviously going to be shit if you watch it on a laptop screen in between Marvel movies and video games.

A 10 out of 5, just like everything else on this list
I'm so proud to see Norbit among these classics.
HOW YEW DEWIN?
boyhood is trash.
the last act doesn't hold up. everything up until then is pure kino
about 4, rounded up

>dude what if le aliens made us!?!?!
You're right, that's a 5/5 story
That's not the story you half-wit
4/5. There’s a lot of boring shots of spaceships docking with classical music that I didn’t get the significance of if there is any.
Could you fricking imagine doing some HARD psychedelics with your hippy buddies. Then watching THAT. holy frick.
Me and my roommate were high on acid the first time I watched it. I kept having to remind myself that it was just a movie, I was completely enthralled. Best movie watching experience I've ever had
That’s what drugs are for. That’s nuts.
I watched on acid for the first time as well. My hand was vibrating all night and thought I was about to have a heart attack at one point. Good times!
4.5 or 5. It was great imo but the drawn out music part just took forever. Took everything in me not to pick up my phone while waiting
4/5
Obviously incredible visuals and sound design, but the story is mediocre.
5/5 visuals, the moon meeting needed to be fleshed out more.
