The thing is, they already started with the final villain in the Marvel Universe, who was Thanos. Kang isn't even comparable to him. They could do either Annihilus (villain of Annihilation) or whoever was behind the Incursions. The thing is, Annihilus needs a build-up just like Thanos, and the villains of the Incursions don't really fight directly most of the time.
I mean Annihilus had to build up his army little by little, you can't just throw people into the middle of an intergalactic conflict at the start of the next movie. Even the if the comics started right in the middle of the initial attacks, they still gave plenty of warnings (even sent envoys to Earth) before Annihilus went full force.
