Yeah when you get sober your mind compensates by giving out feel good juice, once that wanes however that’s when most people relapse. Because they feel so good about being sober, then it becomes a cycle.
I think it would depend on how far gone they are. There are addicts who are still coherent enough to hate their lifestyle and want to escape but can't due to how strong the addiction is then there are incoherent messes who are essentially zombies.
