The entire movie felt like the first act of a story. Nothing was ever really explained, and the black detective scenes on that shitty beach / boat set made me kek every time.
He's supposed to be in pain all the time and the equipment he's using is really old versions that are failing, the two techs mention that. But yeah whole thing made no sense.
I understand in the movie's context that its to help digest or whatever, but i mean wtf was cronenberg thinking when he made it? I wouldnt think jerking the body around would aid digestion in any way, maybe something massaging the stomach would make more sense and look less goofy
the point is the products, the eating chair, the special sleeping bed, etc, don't actually do anything. they're pure placebo. The actual problem is, due to microplastics and forever molecules being in everything, humanity had evolved to only be able to digest them.
Carpenter was bitter for this.
Cronenberg literally started out with weird artsy stuff (Stereo, Crimes of The Future #1), and the period when he made more or less straightforward stuff is quite short.
Also majority of late Cronenberg is much better than the slop Carpenter was doing late career. His last film to day is some exceedingly generic film about a psychiatric ward. I'd watch Cosmopolis over than any day.
Cosmopolis was far worse than the worst slop Carpenter put out. Cosmopolis feels like it was written by a literal 14 year old waxing philosophical, something like Vampires is just a simple fun watch and not trying to be anything more.
stopped watching as soon as the black guy showed up, dude couldn't speak couldn't act, swear to got they just literally hired they first refugee they saw in the streets and we are supposed to think he's a smart detective
Reminded me of Videodrome in a lot of ways, including the fact that it doesn't really have a third act, but that's okay. With CotF especially he's definitely more interested in exploring how body modification technology affects society and the individual characters than in resolving the intrigue; the conspiracy story is interesting as an exploration of how those technologies will affect society but the ultimate resolution wasn't that important. I know it isn't Cronenberg's final movie, but the note that the film actually does end on is kind of a perfect summation of the themes he's been exploring his entire career.
It was just a really lame surface level observation of how the government wants to keep us poor and deprived of all our senses so we're easier to control. They came up with a way to eat plastic and end world hunger and the government wanted that shut down, and they made it illegal to fetishize pain once people became resistant to it.
bruh it was corporate interest that wanted to keep the fact humans had evolved beyond the need for corporate interest secret. If people don't actually need "eating chairs" or whatever the beds did to sleep, and the solution to the remaining human problems was nearly limitless compounds accessible to everyone, the "economy" that maintains the wealthy corporate elite collapses.
Um what in the fricking FRICK reddit??????? Holy twatwaffes you crazy humans were NOT joking about this Crongenberg fella. Upon the fine recommendation of the ladies and gentlesirs of r/truefilm, I decided to purchase the Videodrome box set, made by the Criterion Collection of course. With a stunning and immaculate transfer of the original film print, bonus features (a freaking BOOKLET that I can read in my book nook cause I am MOTHERFRICKING CLASSY), and commentaries for days, you know I had to add this one to the collection. Plus it looks just like an old VHS tape just like in the movie!!! Physical media FTW. This movie is absolutely WILD, with tons of epic body horror gore porn, the 80s PRACITCAL EFFECTS, all my yes. If you're classy like me pour yourself up a scotch on the rocks, or a martini (shaken, not stirred, bond style), sit back and throw this one on the blu ray, there's no way you will be dissapointed 🙂
this is the only movie i've ever turned off in the middle of it
I didn't get through Cosmopolis.
I was going to call you a gay, but I looked it up and I was actually thinking of chronopolis.

>Nur Im Kino
>wasn't kino
Felt more like prop showcase than a real movie, even though the plot idea was cool
editing every clip of kstew in this movie and gooning to it...
>needing a michael J fox simulation chair in order to eat
Unironically what the frick did he mean by this?
He's supposed to be in pain all the time and the equipment he's using is really old versions that are failing, the two techs mention that. But yeah whole thing made no sense.

Isn't grotesque the very point?

He's an "A R T I S T" now...

Carpenter is a Godzilla fan?
every serious filmmaker respects godzilla.
They're both based in their own ways. Not everyone has to be best friends.
Jay from RLM is a huge Cronenberd dick rider and afaik he hasn't talked about this movie in any detail.
>No third act and abrupt ending: The Movie
>Nur Im Kino
Yes You Are
Kristen Stewart as a pent up office lady who gets so horny it almost makes her cry is a revelation.
I liked it.
it was ok
stopped watching as soon as the black guy showed up, dude couldn't speak couldn't act, swear to got they just literally hired they first refugee they saw in the streets and we are supposed to think he's a smart detective
he was a shitty detective though, which is why they cast a Black, to confuse everyone.
I can't be the only one that thought he looked like Corey Feldman

I unironically took a date to this movie and still cringe
Hey man, if your date was a freak, she would've fricked you after.
