These bullet points make it sound like MJ has ever been a main character. She is and always has been a supporting character for Peter Parker, and that's a good thing! Not every character needs to be a lead. You need some to revolve around the hero to showcase why that hero is important.

Editorial hates the relationship because they want Peter to be a swingin' bachelor able to get with all of the pretty girls they never could instead of being tied down and "old." Also comic creators/editorials really hate it when fans are persistent on telling them what they don't like so they hate the marriage even more and are doing everythig they can to kill Peter and MJ as a couple in large part out of spite.

That's the problem though, Peter Parker ISN'T Tony Stark. Pete isn't a pump and dump kind of guy. So it all comes off as "Peter finally finds someone to love, but he fricking bungles it and she never wants anything to do with him anymore".
How long has it been since Anna Maria has talked to him?

If you hate Amazing Spider-Man so much, stop reading it. Stop talking about it. Stop caring about it. Marvel loves the outrage discussions as it makes them feel Spider-Man is still popular in comics. Just move on to something actually worth your time.

Who cares. Do you work for Marvel? Just let the book keep dying and buy the Good Spider-Man content. Promote the good stuff. At some point, someone with enough sway will realize how trash ASM has been and will let someone ACTUALLY write a decent book.

Idk if its just me but consideirng how niche comics are maybe they are afraid of being buried under social media algos & diminishing influence in an online community that has slowly risen up against them. They still have some ardent defenders but it seems to me like comic discussions will prob keep getting minimized till the niche becomes a super niche.

It's tempting to just say always has been, but there's different stages.

      >One More Day era
When Quesada got assmad at Newsarama posting JMS talking about the thought process for OMD which made Quesada look bad, so he moved everything over, and people like Slott and Wacker started getting into fights with people who didn't like the OMD/BND direction. In light of what happened with the Slott incident it wouldn't surprise me that the mods were covering for Marvel creators and shills who were breaking rules by attacking posters.

      >Janelle Asselin incident
Janelle Asselin did an article shitting on some forgettable Teen Titans cover under the guise of performative moralism. Certain people on CBR forums get assmad and start harassing her. Then the forums got completely wiped. It never made sense because it could've been easier to just pick off the bad accounts rather than erasing everything. Crackpot theory that may end up being true: some if not most of those people who harassed her were probably comic industry people and they were worried about getting caught so the whole thing got wiped.

      >2016 buyout
You could argue against the other two but this was basically the true end of CBR, because once it got bought it got hollowed out and turned into a clickbait farm. It got so bad that even comics industry people were calling it out at different times.

Once in a while someone will go rogue and do something crazy, like for instance there were people writing CBR articles starting to realize how shit the current direction of ASM was.

              >Miles Morales is a massively important character, his success proving that long-term replacements of classic characters can find an audience. Spider-Verse was never really about him in the comics, though, which fueled the people who hate him. It hurt Miles more than it helped him.

Oh my god!!! The comics status quo is changing????? This has never happened before!!!! Comic writers have never, in decades, changed shit for the worse only for it to go right back to the way it was a couple of years later, every change in comics is forever and everything matters

A this point Marvel has done so much shit to damage their relationship that would be very difficult to repair it even if they wanted to. The best thing they could do right now is just break them off completely, let Peter get over her and date someone else for a while (and no it doesn't have to be fricking Gwen back from the dead, it could be Felicia or Silk or fricking anyone really, even a brand new character). See how MJ gets by without having Peter chasing her ass (hint: nobody will care about her anymore and her book will be canceled). After like two years have passed you can reintroduce her to Peter's life and gradually try to rekindle the relationship, if people even still want it by that point.

I simply want Peter to die already and let Miles be the main Spider-Man. I'm also OK with Doc Ock becoming rogue Spider-Man again, just don't want to see him as the main one. Peter Parker is just boring at this point. Say whatever you want about Bendis, but he knew when to kill Ultimate Peter and introduce Miles, people are tired of reading the same stories about some white hero who is also a loser.

      Marvel shill spotted

        Anonymous

How am I a Marvel shill? It's Marvel that's still milking this character, pretending that people care about him, thinking that it's still the 1960s and Black and Latinx people don't read comics and don't want to see more representation in them. When Bendis killed off the Ultimate Peter Parker and created Miles Morales, millions of kids around the world started reading his comic, especially in Africa, Latin America and Asia. What's in ASM for them to read now? Some boring 25+ year old white ass infantile with mommy issues? No, thanks. Not even white kids can relate to him anymore. So why not let Miles be the main star of Marvel comics already and give him room to develop as a hero kids want to see? Everyone loved him in his movies and in PS games, more than they loved Parker. OK, if you don't want to kill Parker, just retire him like the recent game did.

Peter didn’t retire. He’s taking a break from being Spider-Man for awhile because he needs to get his civilian life in order, since he’s gone through tons of physically and emotionally destructive events in just a couple of years. He’ll definitely come back for 3, Lethal Protector, or even the upcoming free DLC updates.

I'm convinced the only reason Paul continues to be a thing is because we made such a loud shitstorm about him. It's our own fault.

Do we even know his "big secret" yet? I know the kids were fake but still.

      Anonymous

I think the big secret was that he's the son of Rabin, the weird magic guy who kidnapped Peter and MJ in the first place, and accidentally helped him to destroy their world

        Anonymous

Now that Rabin is dead, that hardly matters anymore. The sole interesting trait he has left is the whole 'accidentally destroyed his old world and killed billions' thing, and the writers get pissed off at us for daring to hold that one against him.

        Anonymous

IIRC, Rabin stated that he had basically kept them together by magicking up the kids so that he'd have an anchor to use to pull him back into our world. Paul was always only meant to keep MJ on retainer until Peter could pull her (and therefore the kids) back into our world. With the kids dead and their life together in the other world basically a sham, had they gone with the original plan to simply kill off MJ, Paul would have faded into the background. You can tell that they have NO idea what to do with him now that he has to stick around.

Real art should not be created to please the audience, it should make them feel different emotions, including the negative ones. Besides, pleasing the aforementioned incels definitely should not be a priority for Marvel.

It's a big reason they're collapsing, and the comics journos are sweating bullets.

Before, these writers thought they could jump ship to the movies, or streaming shows. But the MCU is collapsing, and the DCEU was Dead on Arrival.
