I just don't understand why such a hit movies blew through theaters as fast as it did. A friend of mine was complaining he had to pay to see Oppenheimer but this shits playing around the clock.

Every movie is like that now. Mario was on digital just a month after release.

It's a WB movie so obviously they'd want it on their service as soon as they can. And they had Mario on Peawiener after 3 months.

                Anonymous

but this movie was such a monster hit. You'd think they want to bleed a few more bucks out of it Oppenheimer wasn't available and they came out the same time.

So was Mario. Everything is released for home viewing quickly now after COVID. Movies like Oppenheimer and Top Gun are exceptions because they're marketed as "theater experiences".

that's definitely how it was marketed. it wasn't just oppenheimer it was Oppenheimer The IMAX Experience! nolan made a huge deal about seeing this on the BIGGEST SCREEN POSSIBLE. there was also the whole marketing stunt of nolan giving theaters giant film projectors they needed to show it in 70mm IMAX.

still not buying it. why isn't something like Mean Girls raking in the loot then if women will go see women's film? It's just one film making all the monster cash.

Probably because Mean Girls is a pointless remake to a movie every girl has already seen.

if you want a real answer i think people are fine with female IP's being marketed to women. the "wokism" in barbie is benign as frick compared others.

people seem more mad when you take an IP that specifically catered to men and then changed it to reach a larger demographic for more market share

It's pretty obvious actually. You take a make franchise and market it to women you'll have no audience. You take a female franchise and market it to women it'll succeed.

Because unlike the dozens of woke flops last year such as Indiana Jones, it was a movie for women that pandered to women and not a movie for men that pandered to women.
Also , remember that feminists were literally seething that people liked Ken and he overshadowed Barbie

It's NOT WOKE. Watch the fricking movie yourself and have an opinion you formed with your own two brain cells. The whole POINT of the movie is that holding such strong opinions on good and evil leads to conflict on all sides, whether that be woman/man or mother/daughter or corporation/customers. Nobody is truly evil but nobody is totally virtuous either.

How is this not considered a 'woke' movie? There's a black, fat, and trans Barbie, and the whole point of the movie is "FRICK THE PATRIARCHY".

Goalpost shifting. Usual with those morons had the same with Mario Black panther and spiderverse. Once a movie is successful, it's no longer woke. And even if it's woke, it's an exception.

That is NOT the point of the movie. The point of the movie is that you must exist independent of one another, that neither patriarchal or matriarchal rule is good if the end goal is self actualization. Thematically Barbie is escaping the idealistic but fake world and Ken is learning to be more than an accessory to a woman. It speaks to simp culture, veganal obsession and the zoomer/boomer divide. You would understand this if you actually watched the movie. It's a film of synthesis, intentional or not.

Barbie as a brand appeals to women. It never needed men to succeed and be profitable. The problem is movies trying to drive away men for male dominated properties and then make the movie for nobody. It has no appeal to any demographic.

It wasn't woke. It's about one man waking up from the gyntopian nightmare and freeing his brothers of femoid tyranny. In the end his revolution is crushed by feminine treachery but not his spirit.

now remake it with a negress Barbie. People only went to see it because it starred Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

I honestly think it was because the few men that went and saw it actually liked the Ken scenes, so they memed it into a success from that alone. Even the wokeness of the film was so over the top it was like they were joking. I couldn't stand the little high-school femoid though, there is something about being preached to by know it all children that boils my blood.

They cast leads that are good actors who actually look like Barbie and Ken instead of literal who, ugly, mystery meat mutts. Box office wouldn't have done so good if Welfariel was cast as Barbie.

Because it was always about "how you do politics" and not the politics. That film was a comedy and balanced its ideas without going over the top. If it had beaten you over the head with it the whole time like modern movies, then yeah, you would be annoyed. Even the casting of a bunch of different people makes sense in context of it and wasn't as forced as it usually is.

Why do films fail? Because people try and make male genres of films into female genres or vice verse.
    >let's make superheroes and action and sci fi feminine, the force is female!
    >let's make a bunch of female led movies led by women who don't understand that being an assertive badass doesn't mean being a stuck up arsehole
Barbie was a feminine movie with music tie ins and jokes for women. But the Ken stuff also sold the show which gave men enough of an excuse to see it.

Half the problem is that films for general audiences, or family movies, have been killed by the constant attempt at subverting old genres. Having a film with stuff for everyone and a balance doesn't mean trying to force the same changes.
