What I don't understand is, why IS Hulk CGI, and extremely expensive at that?

Because you have to pay a lot of people to get that CGI going

        Anonymous

Because she-hulk is 7 feet tall and green? And frankly she wasn’t she-hulk enough in the show. You should literally never see Jen unshulked.

Their she-hulk design was awful though. Too bulky and not the right shade of green.

        Anonymous

Because you have to basically frame by frame rotoscope animate a green character into every minute Jen is on screen. And she is the main character of the show. It is both a live action and animated series at the same time doubling the budget.

          Anonymous

How much cheaper would the show have been with a bigger actress and green makeup? Actual question

            Anonymous

Significantly? Reanimating every single scene a character is in required hiring an animation team of about 7-15 people, all nearing 6 figures, lots of time spent on combing over each scene, and basically inserting a new character into each one, making them move correctly, making them look real, then sending them over to an effects guy to ensure lighting is just right and it fits into the scene correctly. Also keeping the writer, director and other staff around to ensure it all works together cohesively. So likely a little over half the budget since it if filming a new show on top of a filmed show.

Also it wold have cut production time in half to drop all of it as well.

Not even that, use of stunt actors and forced perspective sets could have massively reduced the price.

But you have to plan for that, and that pretty much sums up the majority of the issues for the MCU - not enough planning, way, WAY too much "we'll fix it in post."

  6. 4 months ago

Literally the only D+ show worth a second season. I literally couldn't give a frick about any of the others including that dumb Brendan Fraser Mummy knock off with the admittedly great Oscar Isaac performance.

Actually making it a comedy made the MCU joke shit actually tolerable, because it worked in context. The legal shit was thin, but they knew that and de-emphasized it, they could've hired a better writer for that between seasons. Daredevil was 10/10 great and I can't wait to see his happy streak come to a grinding halt, hope Born Again doesn't suck.

Yeah, the CGI was awful, but Marvel's shit always is. They haven't had good CGI in their crap in over ten years.

She-hulk doesn’t work in a court room. It’s moronic to push that angle. She should be in a bathing suit in between fighting living hills and aliens.

It's not a binary "courtroom/no courtroom" choice. I'd say they needed at least a little bit of courtroom stuff to frame the character, and they needed to do it competently. Even if it was only for 5 minutes in the first episode, and not throughout the show, they needed at least one person who knew what the frick they were writing about.

The irony of the production specifically citing Ally McBeal as an inspiration was that they didn't comprehend why Ally McBeal worked; the creator and main writer KNEW LAW. He had been a lawyer, so he could write convincing dialogue, and solid jokes about the process. Trying to write legal stuff when your only knowledge of the field comes from media about legal stuff is obvious and terrible.

This is a recurring issue, and the big reason modern media has so many high profile tone deaf failures - the focus on diversity of identity over diversity of experience. So we've got a bunch of middle- high income theater kids trying to write about subjects they have no experience with.

Why do you think Found Footage took off for a brief, awful time?

        Anonymous

It is probably a mix of things:
Women love mysteries. Probably because they like monitoring the motivations and relationships of their social group. Which is probably because being aware of everyone's social status is one of the ways in which they could secure their families without recurring to violence in primitive cultures. This is probably the same reason women love gossip and social sims too.

And talking about gossip, if you think about it, most mystery stories usually involve learning gossip about some 4-10 characters, including their wealth, relationships, medical issues, dirty secrets, etc. Ie, gossip.

Women get thrilled by the idea of dangerous men. Probably because dangerous men might have given them chances of rising in social hierarchy in nature if they were successful.

True crime also usually involves a bit of horror and many women love horror. Probably because most women's reaction to violence tends to be to hide or to run. This is basically the opposite to men who tend to usually confront threats of violence directly. Which is probably why men tend to more easily self insert into action, sport and chase scenes.

Because females are the "sexual selector" in most mammals, women might just like making guesses about people's character and being able to test if they were right or wrong to some extent. They kinda have to test a man's character whenever they are invited to a date, take a ride home, etc. But they can't walk back their choices irl.

This show pretty much killed any illusion of stakes in the MCU. Like having the final episode be your character breaking the fourth wall and coming into 'our world', talking to the writers, and then talking to what's effectively the MCU's version of God and nagging it into submission until it unfricks everything...how is anyone supposed to care about anything moving forward? If Kang or Dr Doom or Galactus get too difficult to beat, just get the green c**t to whine at the robot until it has them shit themselves to death

This. It needed men who understand what it is that the audience is looking for in Jen. You have to write these superhero comicbook women as girlfriends and potential waifus for the men reading the subject matter. If I don't want to date, rescue/save or fall in love with Jen then I sure as fricking shit wouldn't want to watch her adventures. She has such a shitty personality that even if she had Kardashian proportions she might still be too shitty to even wank one off to. I mean, God, why would you put an unhappy fat women in charge of a story like this? It's hysterically wrong. Even when Jen was supposed to be "showing off" her dresses were laughably fricking modest. Women will never ever cast or dress other women in something that they know men will respond positively to. Even when its their job.

I can't believe the show that openly mocked its viewers isn't going to be coming back...
