I dunno, some of the episodes have an okay amount of effort put into them.
I mean their nowhere close to a fully produced cartoon but for a little episodic SFM thing they aren't terrible.

Skibidi Toilet use the shorts algorythm, comparing both makes no sense, the shorts and the long videos work in different ways.

It's like thinking than Tik Tok beat Youtube because it makes more "views" even though youtube is far more active and makes way more money.

This, basically. Murder Drones has some of the most sincere character interactions I've seen in a recent show. Which is funny, considering they are robots with personalities based on media tropes

For someone who's not even a main character, Uzi's dad does have the most complicated and nuanced interactions with her

I really like how they still kept him as a terrible father, but made him understand how shit he was to his daughter. He fully understands how horrible it was to leave his own daughter to die, and tries his hardest to reconcile with her. It's very well done, they don't sweep it under the rug or just completely redeem him. He sees what he did and even begins to defend his daughter. Their talk in Ep 4 was really good, he admits he's not fit to help Uzi just like he wasn't fit to help her mother - and lets her go free to figure things out on her own. I really liked that, it's some great character writing. Subtle things like him trying to run back inside the prom the help Uzi before getting locked out by Doll were nice to see as well. This show handles show-don't-tell pretty well.

It's pathetic, even the teasers from things like Murder Drones oozes both more style and substance than anythingn ike Steven Universe, Owl House, name a calarts copypaste show.

Views that big arent cheap. At most they could afford 20 million id bet. And thats not that much.

I think its success comes down to how it appeals to a wide gen z-millenial demographic with its appealing visuals, cute-turned-horror aesthetic and most importantly its resonance with those generations when it comes to the pandemic.

Digital circus presents a bubbly, childlike world where you are utterly trapped. Constantly entertained by a host that is incapable of understanding you. With the glitch thing representing existential dread and nihilism.

The pandemic happened very recently and no piece of media has been able to portray that feeling until this point. Also glitch is the only notable indie animation studio right now.

Pretty sure it got popular because it was dubbed in multiple languages upon release. Most indie animations don’t do that.

  7. 6 months ago

Turns out having a well liked creator within their own community, mixed with another already established fanbase within a media channel, then adding on top of that releasing the work in multiple languages meaning that people who aren't even ESL's can watch shoots you into the algorithms good graces.

Murderdrones has massively annoying characters. I wasn't rooting for any of the main characters. The world setting was kinda dumb. It's made to appeal to... angsty tweens?
Digital Circus is a legit terrifying hellscape with a lot of potential. Caine is, legit, super annoying, but the show doesn't stick with him to too long. It got broad appeal. It's psychological horror for the adults and safe enough for kids. Older kids. PG-13.
