Batman R.I.P. Paperback – June 22, 2010
by Grant Morrison (Author), Tony Daniel (Illustrator)
Tying into his other blockbuster stories of 2008 Final Crisis and Batman: The Ressurection of Ra's Al Ghul, the legendary Grant Morrison confronts readers with the unthinkable... the death of The Dark Knight.
The troubled life of Bruce Wayne seems to spin out of control when his releationship with the mysterious Jezebel Jet deepens. Soon Bruce Wayne drops out completely, having seemingly become the victim of mental illness and abandoning his Batman identity for a life on the streets of Gotham City. Capitalizing on the fall of their greatest foe, the Club of Villains begin a crime spree through the streets of Gotham that threatens to bring the city to its knees.
This volume collects Batman #676-683 and DC Universe #0.
they should number them on the books. i tried reading it too and was confused. i was able to finish it but i didn't get it or understand what was happening in it. it was like reading a bad frank miller parody or someone's fever dream.
Sounds like you should read more Batman before reading Morrison. Half the fun is recognizing the references to half-remembered stories from decades ago.
It's the best Batcontent, probably why it's recommended first so often. I learned that the hard way.
Also, so is Morrison's Bat Epic.

What else have you read? Those stories you listed are classic, but I think the mainline comics have had better stuff than Arkham.

All of the popular Batbooks ending with Morrison's Bat Epic, including Grant/Breyfogle.
I also read a little Tom King, which was dogshit, and some of the minis from the past few years.

It's crazy to me that people consider this peak Batman when the best books are decent at best and the rest are mediocre.
name five batbooks/runs that you think are just as good or better
Alan Grant's stuff, Snyder's detective run is better, O'Neil and Adams obviously, new 52 Batman and Robin, Year One.
Not that anon but Year One's the only one that's as good/better, and it's four issues
Maybe I just don't think too highly of Morrison. Love his run, but I think it's overrated.
>The Dark Knight Returns
>Batman: Year One
>Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth
Everything else is as decent, mediocre, or worse.
Way to pick baby's first Batman stories.

Agreed.
Holy frick, after reading a lot of batman stuff I have to agree 99% of it is garbage.
An okay Batbook.
You read an early segment in a Batman run that starts off good, but eventually goes off the rails. Lead to some good batdick stories though
Hurt telling Batman to rot in purgatory was a cold ass line I love it.
The Batwank really went out of hands here and Joker was edgiest he has ever been up to that point.
how many years later was the face thing
Tony Daniel Tec was Nu52.
oh so like through the nu52 Batman Inc
Azzarello stands in your path.
The Fifth World genesis
One of the best Man stories.
Yeah, I don't get the hype either.
