OT Sulu was if anything a bit of a lady's man but he was made gay in the reboot. Takei was initially against this because he understood the difference between an actor and a character but he soon backed down before the mob.

More people in the real world identify as gay than ever before. Individualism is on the rise. Star Trek has always been a progressive and individualistic show. Are you so arrogant to think that because you will never watch something that no one will ever watch it?

Just an FYI; homosexuality is inorganic and is brought on by a number of factors, in the end though it has to be consciously chosen as a lifestyle and identity. This is despite the fact that it is a preference and not an identity. Desiring to have sex with someone of the same sex is not an identity. All the “homosexual traits and characteristics” are just really the neuroses which drove the person to reject heterosexuality.
Sexual identity politics are cancer and people who fall into the trap are the best useful idiots. Homosexuality has no redeeming features or societal value and should not be a focus in media. It is only promoted in media as an understanding that homosexuals are easily manageable and manipulated.

          >Star Trek has always been woke,
          nope

Star Trek (nerd shit in general) has always appealed primarily to the outcasts and losers. homosexuals, leftists, and geeks have always cavorted in the same antiestablishment circles. It's just that over time, the homosexuals have become the squeakiest wheel. Go look up what nerd/geek culture was all about 30 years ago; it was about hating religion, bashing conservatives/"fascists", obsessing over foreign cultures and alternative lifestyles, and on and on. Nothing changed. Kirk kissing Uhura was the first interracial kiss on television, and was highly radical and far-left for the culture of the time. You can't be a nerd and be right wing at the same time, welcome to reality. Stop obsessing over pop culture and do something useful with your life.

Even if your smal loudl group distorts words, substance doesn't change.
progressive is to woke what moderate spirituality is to religious fanaticism, therefore Star Trek was never woke

"Star Trek" is currently in its death throes with Paramount Plus. It's been an abject faiilure which is part of why, as Paramount's flagship show, the entire company is being courted by multiple buyers. You can expect them to gut these IPs and fire everyone currently failing them, however, so none of this shit will be continued nor will it be considered canon

There was always a propaganda element, but TOS and the Berman-era series set out to entertain, first and foremost, and - while the quality varied - featured the work of some talented writers who cared about their craft. Nu Trek is as you describe. Also, the anti-straight/white/male/Christian/anything-to-the-right-of-Justin-Trudeau-ness is new:

For me I love the world and atmosphere of TNG more. The Enterprise is just too comfy and they truly "boldly go." Meanwhile on DS9, Bajorans can be too annoying sometimes, and they don't boldly go.
But nothing in TNG beats the Cardassians or the Dominion, so I'll give that to DS9. Idk, I love both.

        Anonymous

Objectively DS9 might be better, but TNG is peak comfy for me, probably just because it's the one I saw most growing up.

Theoretically, that sounds fricking amazing. But it would require witty and non-woke writing, so...

Both are based. TNG raised the standards of storytelling for the franchise and codified a lot of lore and methodology for what came after. DS9 is a deconstruction done right, mainly because it took plenty of time to examine what Starfleet is like when under attack and how well it can hold onto its utopian ideals, mainly by humanizing the cast and giving them plenty of shortcomings but also inspirational and heroic moments.

There was always a significant Queer segment of Fandom even back in the TOS days. There was Kirk Spock slash in the Dealer's Room at even the earliest conventions.

However, Trek didn't go openly Queer until Star Trek: The Next Generation in the late 80s, and that carried over into the other series of that era. Probably why Queer fans who were teens and young adults back then fixate on those shows.

Because gays associate certain things with being gay. A somewhat flamboyant tailor who is evasive and guarded about his past seems to them like someone who would be gay. All because he was a little handsy with Julian in ONE (1) episode when they first meet and it's obviously done in a way to make Julian uncomfortable and to drop his guard to be more malleable for Garak. No, not really. In fact much of early TNG involves Picard trying to bend the rules of Starfleet so he doesn't have to deal with random ayys' problems more than it takes to catalogue their position for some other shmuck to deal with.

The idea of Star Trek being luxury gay space communism mostly comes from its creators ramblings of what he wanted to do off-screen only to be reigned in by the rest of his team because his idea in their unrefined state make no logical sense.

Several years ago I attended a book signing by a Black-israeli author, Walter Mosley. He contrasted Star Wars with Star Trek. Funny because Lucas is a known lefty and the Star Wars original trilogy is basically 'French resistance of Nazi-occupied France, IN SPAAAACE'.
