Waiters were promised a fixed wage, which they agreed to. They were guaranteed exactly 0 tips per table, which they agreed to. The restaurant has, in a stroke of genius, made their employees think that its the customers responsibility to make up the rest of their wages. Rather than request a raise or unionize, they spit in customers food, talk shit about them in the kitchen, and then thank their boss for their likely less than minimum wage earnings. If your lifestyle requires at least minimum wage with a reliable and consistent wage, try mcdonalds. Sure its a little more work than waiters are used too, but you dont have to deal with people, nor blame them for your voluntary slave like job choice.

Isn't it true that the tips they receive get subtracted from the wage they would have made during the shift they got their tips at? Like say you got 15 dollars an hour and you worked 5 hours you'd get 75 dollars, but if you got a total of 50 dollars in tips they'd take that 50 from the 75 dollars they got from their worked hours?

        Anonymous

no they keep the tips. they dont get paid 15 an hour either. in theory if they received no tips their employer would have to pay them more to make it up to minimum wage, but they almost always make much more than minimum wage. in a standard casual restaurant, table of 4, sits for 2 hour say, orders 40 dollars worth of food and drink per person. bill is 120 dollars. they tip 20 percent, which is 24 bucks. the server will have dealt with multiple tables in this time. i think the average server probably makes 30 dollars an hour in tips on average, sometimes more sometimes less obviously.

No, tipped employees will get a lower than minimum hourly with the expectation they'll average enough tips to make up the difference. Like say a State's tipped minimum is 3.25 then its expected a tipped employee will average 32 in tips on an 8 hour shift(or more if the State minimum wage is higher than federal). If they don't the employer makes up the difference. This is why tipped employees want tipping, they don't want a fair wage.

Tipping only works in a society of non-israeli whites. It's like any other honor system built to encourage hard working and exemplary service. The moment you introduce the type of people who would just not tip and still claim the higher level of service it all falls apart. It's why tipping worked in the 1950s but today gratuity is included on checks.

Nonsense. Tipping is the ideal form. See, the waiter is incentivized to offer good service, because he could make more money than a flat wage if he does a good job. This translates into excellent service for the customer who appreciates the extra attention and is more likely to return to the establishment building more profit for the owner. Everyone wins.

Moreover, it weeds out poor service. Someone who does a poor job earns less than he would've taking a flat rate and his poor service hurts the business. If he isn't dismissed for doing a bad job, he's weeded out because it's a position that becomes untenable with bad tips and therefore is a self-correcting problem.

In a vacuum, this works perfectly. But introduce israelites or blacks or immigrants. They take the extremely high level of service that the hard working waitstaff perform and refuse to tip anyway, violating the honor system. This begins to occur more and more as their numbers rise. Waitstaff realize that working harder isn't giving them more tips, and they begin to quit trying. Quality of service drops, business slows down, and eventually the owner is required to place the gratuity back on the price of the meals simply to pay the amount that isn't coming through tips. Now the waitstaff is no longer paid for merit and has no incentive to do a good job.

You now pay more for worse service and you brought it on yourself. That's the reality we're in now.

People who oppose tipping are like the teachers who oppose meritorious raises. It's better that everyone get paid the same low amount regardless of how much you try and how successful you are than people who put the hearts into a job being rewarded for excelling. You see it more and more in western society these days. Equity of outcome.

            >into a job being rewarded for excelling
aaaaaaaaaa but if I get a standard ok service, then it's fine for me to NOT tip.
And if I get a poor service, less than standard, it's ok for me to substract tip, because I pay the food expecting, at the very least, a standard service for my money, and if you are giving me a sub-standard service you are robbing me.
It goes both ways, but you won't accept that.

          >This translates into excellent service
No, it doesn't. They all just expect the tip regardless of what they did. It's just a mandatory annoying tax at this point, which sure you can refuse to give for whatever arbitrary reason, but that just enables and encourages them to frick with your food.

Waiters are equally as degenerate but a waiter's saving grace, in my personal opinion, is that because they are all a bunch of drug addicts they are often able and willing to help you find drugs. Even if legally restaurant owners didn't have to top up the pay to meet minimum wage if the tips don't make it
    I still would not tip
Your paycheck is not my problem
    >hehe >:) we'll spit in your food then >:)
Don't care, I only eat at places that have cute girl waitresses anyway. Male waiters are gay 90% of the time and I don't want gay AIDS hands anywhere near my food.

Has anyone noticed the insane increase in different types of services shaking you down for a tip? They try to guilt you into it at drive thrus and takeout now. I have expect to see a tip prompt when I go to the grocery store. I’m full blown /notip/ as a result.

If my food takes less than 20 minutes to arrive, it was not made to order and there will be no tip.
If I am seated in the bar when I didn't ask to be, I will not tip since it means my order will be delayed because it's assumed that I will be ordering overpriced drinks.
If I am visited at the table within two minutes of getting my order and there is no way I can have tasted everything yet, it means you are putting in an obligatory appearance and will ignore me if I do have an issue so there will be no tip.
If you visit the table after I am finished and clear the table or ask whether I want to pay yet, it means you are pushing me out the door so there will be no tip.
If my method of paying is some meme console or chassis where you can see and scrutinize the amount of gratuity before I'm out the door then I may as well give you no tip at all.
If I get any sass at all, I'll be going home to change clothes and get my baseball bat. See you in the parking lot when you finish for the night.

Maybe the reason you dumbass burgers have a salary this low is because you blame it on the customer instead of, you know, your employer

I missed the part where that's my problem. If they have an issue with their pay rate, they should speak with their employers about it.

    >Waiters make less than $3 an hour
No, they don't. If one is they should contact the Department of Labor because that's very illegal. No one working a legal job grosses less than the federal minimum wage, that's why its the federal minimum.

That’s not true, that’s not how the minimum wage works, look it up.

        Yes, it is, moron.
        https://www.dol.gov/agencies/whd/state/minimum-wage/tipped
No one legally employed makes less than the federal minimum. If they are they need to contact the Department of Labor, their employer is operating very illegally.
Note I said "grosses" as in their entire wage not just what's on the check.
