I suspect the (very) soft reboot Sakair did at IDW made him re-think some things and he decided she should be an outright horror-movie Creepy Little Girl. It certainly gives her more personality and presence compared to before.
I dont think he's cleansing evil, I think he's collecting souls for evil gods. I think they arent even evil but just slightly evil enough for whatever they intend.
