        >by the book man who's adherence to his code is both his greatest strenght and greatest weakness
How does that fit with him allowing the training of Anakin. Or giving him a seat on the Jedi council. Or allowing the integration of the clone army and starting the clone wars. Or sending Anakin with Padme. Or sending Anakin to spy on Palpatine.
You're just making shit up. And don't you dare bring up the cartoons or the animated series or whatever.

nostalgia clouding rational thinking. This is coming from someone who saw TPM literally like 7-10 times in the cinema when they were 8 years old. I loved it. Your deconstructing post wasn't very fair, the guy you're arguing with really sounds ESL. But you hit a lot of the nails on the head when it comes to major problems with characterization in the films. You'll get called an RLM drone for having your criticisms though, even though anyone can see the problems by watching the films.

I loved TPM too when it came out. Or at least I think. I had the Lego toys and books describing all the creatures and ships etc. But I guess I didn't love it that much because by the time Revenge came out I didn't even go see it in the cinema.
Seeing the movies after watching the Plinkett reviews the thing that stuck out to me the most that I never felt as a kid was how fricking boring they are.
I think the only thing Plinkett was really wrong about was that they weren't memorable and that there was no creative spark and it was all just about money for George. I guess the first one is probably now mostly a result of all the memes at the movie's expense and the second he did sort of take back in the Revenge review which I think is the best one because it looks at the entire trilogy from a big picture perspective.

Very true. TPM was soulless. Clones paradoxically has more heart in it and more lively. I like that prequel despite the flaws.

Neither of those things make him ride the line. Especially killing Jango after he's "disarmed". He's the most deadly bounty hunter in the galaxy wearing a full suit of custom battle armour. He couldn't possibly know if he's actually disarmed him. Especially when he has all sorts of wrist rockets and shit.

He has a purple lightsaber because the actor asked George to let him have one. Him "riding the line" is pure EU shit.

Someone holding the opinion that Qui-Gon has no character is fricking baffling to me. You'd have to have turned your brain off ten minutes into the film to think there's nothing to him. These videos are still funny but they're rife with moronic takes.

Obi-wan too. The guy started the film telling bad jokes and deflating tension by not taking it seriously and by the end his master is dead, he had to watch it happen. He had to kill his masters murderer in a bout of rage and now he has to look after a child as it was his masters last wish.

So how would you guys describe Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon? What would you say about them, besides that they are Jedi.

He is an alternate thinker. Wise in his own way but often goes against the mold. He is diplomatic and a good mediator between people. He takes time to think through things and meditates when the answer is hard to see.
He also believes in the prophecies of his people and will go against their wishes to make the prophecies occur.

I'm assuming that's meant to describe Qui-Gon. It's been a while since I've seen these movies. Last time I was bored to tears. But as I recall I never really got a sense of who Qui-Gon is, what he's doing and why. The only motivation I can recall is the prophecy thing. Keeping it vague is fine I suppose but I never really understood why it's personal to him. I guess he believes it will bring peace and well being to the galaxy? I don't really know many deeply religious people and none of them are deeply devout. But I get the sense that for all of them it's a deeply personal thing. I never got that sense for Qui-Gon. I never got any sense from him really. The things you say about him being an alternative thinker and a good diplomat or that he deeply thinks about things are just bullshit copes. There's none of that in the movie. I guess he does "diplomacy" but to say he's good at it is dishonest, just like he is when he uses the Jedi mind trick or manipulates people in other ways like the die thing with Watto. He's not a character, he's just a driving force for the plot to progress and I guess a cool visual, being a Jedi and all.

            >I never got any sense from him really. The things you say about him being an alternative thinker and a good diplomat or that he deeply thinks about things are just bullshit copes
You are the one that doesnt remember the film anon.
He is a good negotiator, he can communicate calmly with Watto and makes deals with him. He can be diplomatic with the gungan king whom hates humans and jar jar. He is diplomatic and that is why he was chosen to deal with the trade dispute that is the main conflict of the film early on.

He is very in his own mind, he meditates and does things thoughtfully so I call him a deep thinker.

It's wierd to say he is a non character when he has personality, he does things like grab Jar Jars tongue and tell him to never lick the food again. He talks to anakin in a very kind way, he reassures Padme everything will be okay.

Obi wan also has a personality. He makes jokes to deflate tension and is niave until he has a call to action to step up and become the mentor himself.

              >he can communicate calmly with Watto and makes deals with him
He tries to scam him by using the mind trick and when that doesn't work he fixes the bet by using the force on the dice.
              >He can be diplomatic with the gungan king
He uses the mind trick on him to get him to give him the underwater ship. When they join forces in the end it's Padme who convinces him to do so.
              >He is diplomatic and that is why he was chosen to deal with the trade dispute that is the main conflict of the film early on.
Are you serious? This is your example of him being a good diplomat? There aren't even any negotiations. It's just a pretext so they can plow through the droids with lightsabers.
              >He is very in his own mind, he meditates and does things thoughtfully so I call him a deep thinker
The only time I recall him meditating is in the fight with Darth Maul. And he's basically just trying to refocus himself as opposed to Maul who psyches himself up by angrily pacing around. He's not trying to deeply think about things, I would imagine. And by the way he gets killed moments after. It's not like Obi-Wan in A New Hope who was just trying to buy Luke, Han and Leia enough time to escape and basically gave up after he knew he did his job. He genuinely fails. So I guess the meditation didn't work too well.
              >he does things like grab Jar Jars tongue and tell him to never lick the food again
You think that's a personality trait? How would you even describe that? He wants people to respect table etiquette?
              >He talks to anakin in a very kind way, he reassures Padme everything will be okay
Can you give some example of when you think he connect with either of these characters on a personal level. He's basically just a Jedi who has no personal desires or motivations and does things simply because they're the right things to do. But that's the opposite of having a personality.
              >Obi-Wan makes jokes to deflate tension
              In The Phantom Menace?

I guess I'm just shocked there are people who watched these movies that actually love them. I was beginning to think the people who like them and shill them have only seen them once, in the theater when they were kids and now only know them through video essays and memes. I genuinely can't understand how anyone can watch these movies today, as an adult and enjoy them as standalone films.
