I know right? Why would he choose Connie when he can have Spinel?

He's Pink Diamond. Of course Steven will give up his individuality for an easy answer to all of life's problems.

There's Steven Universe, then The Movie is a little later, then Steven Universe Future is the final end.

Yeah, I think this was in "Future"? Basically Steven has a mental meltdown, afraid that Connie will leave him since she's been off living a normal life with normie friends. It was pretty painful to watch. He's also not just proposing, he wants to fuse with her permanently

        >afraid that Connie will leave him
That's not it. He thought he could ran away from his issues by forever being Stevonnie instead of admitting he has problems he need to confront.

Yeah, this is pretty much it

Steven not only never went to school, he never even went to a damn summer camp or anything else with normal children

Of course, the real measure of Greg's deadbeat-ness is that nobody noticed Steven's frozen aging until Connie specifically pointed it out

Steven calls him out for this too. In Gregs defense, he really didn't know what Steven's powerset would be like. The last thing he'd want is Steven to accidentally bubble a kid at summer camp and have Steven taken away by the FBI

The Gems were in the revolutionary war.

Does Canada even exist in the Universe Universe? With the aid of superpowered aliens you'd have thought that the American revolution would have progressed faster and the American victory would have been far more comprehensive.

Conversely, with the gems around to stop bad behaviour the US probably wouldn't have invaded parts of Mexico or infiltrated and annexed Hawaii, though I imagine they'd still have purchased Louisiana and Alaska.

Are the borders of Universe-Universe-US ever shown in the series?

In Steven Universe Canada is called "The Great North".
The Wiki only talks about a Forrest being there. So I don't know if it's a real country.

Species-wide generational trauma concerning all things Gem. That war literally fractured continents.
Almost every single human's reaction to weird Gem stuff is "That's not my problem and I should leave," because the ancestral memories are all screaming HOLY SHIT DUDE YOU'RE GONNA DIE!

ultimately because it's not really that type of show. they're going for that small town comfy ghibli vibe, where magic exists but normies don't really care.

Literally the fault of the gems and garnet for acting like a perma-fusion is the best a relationship could be and not having literally a single other example of an actually healthy couple.

The funny thing is that Ruby and Sapphire were the ones to say go for it but Garnet talks to him after he fails and was basically like "Yeah, of course those two horny idiots would say that. But no, that was a terrible idea."

The fusion was to try to live everything that Connie had planned, going to university, the space program, everything.

Each and every one of his attempts were to avoid that, killing white diamond? Channel the blame (Even though he deserved it)
Release frustration by fighting and training with Jasper? Just to avoid thinking about the problem

I blame the bad writing of the show for this. I can't believe that Beach City didn't had any other kid around his age to hang out with. Oh, wait, there was Peede for that, but Sucrose decided to write him off. The gems acted as if they cared about him but it wasn't really true. Only later on they grew fond of Steven. Greg didn't know how to better raise a child after losing his wife without explaination. Also consider that he ran off from ma a very abusive family, so he din't wanted to make the same mistake. And the way Connie was written make you think that she only wanted to be around Steven when there were "adventures". If anything Steven is a victim of bad writing, meanwhile Greg look like a bad father only because the writer kept him out of the picture instead of him being more present for Steven.

      >I can't believe that Beach City didn't had any other kid around his age to hang out with
He had. One of the first episode established that he was friend with Peedee. But Peedee wanted to invest himself in the familly business and Steven care more about joining the Crystal Gems. Sometimes, Childfriends grow appart. It happens.

He kept being close to Lars and Sadie, though, even if they were a bit older than him.

Steven wasnt raise like the other kids, Greg and the gems thought him enough to not be an illiterate, but Steven barely had human interaction with normal people, he dosnt knows how to normally have a conversación.

For them outside world Steven is like a kid that grew up in a cult
