The one unrealistic thing about this show is how Tony didn't get his fat balding ass kicked more often. Sure Bobby socked him but no way anyone else would've taken him seriously irl.

Janice for once is attempting anger management and it seems to be working. Tony doesn't like this and brings up her homeless son solely for the purpose of setting her off and dragging her down which works.
He then laughs to himself after leaving his sister in tears walking down the road with a smile

Tony’s sister Janice abandoned her son and has been a general piece of shit the whole show. However, she starts improving herself after starting to date one of the guys in Tony’s crew, Bobby. In this scene, Tony sees her controlling her anger, being a good mother figure to Bobby’s children, and seeming happy. This pisses Tony off and he decides to egg Janice on about her past and her abandoned kid until she finally snaps and tries to fight him at the dinner table. Even though Janice is a piece of shit on the show, the reason Tony is so despicable in this scene is that there is no motivation for him to be so cruel to Janice besides his own spite towards anyone not suffering like he is.

he knew Janice was full of shit and proved it, Tony did nothing wrong

it was very obvious janice's approach to being a better person was 'fake it till you make it'. but it seemed to be working. i think bobby was her longest lasting relationship in the show and considering he came with two kids, there had to have been more sincerity in her commitment than had been previously seen in her.

Frick off reddit. She literally abandoned her son, who's now a homeless crackhead. And now she's pretending to be some sort of cheerful careless mommy. She doesn't deserve that. She didn't earn it. Tony was more than right to drag her back to reality.

It's established that Tony absolutely despises Janice.
Well she's pretty to hate, nobody likes her obviously, but still. He has real grievances. Most importantly, he resents her because she "broke free", while he had to stay with all the family drama at home. She's out blowing roadies around the country while he's sitting there saddled up with Livia, trying to do the right thing. Then she comes back out of nowhere, and bullshit immediately ensues. From his perspective she's here to "pick the bones", and although this pisses him off, to some extent he can accept it. He is after all, a materially motivated career criminal, so his sister being a con artist is nothing too special. But this shit, when she actually tries transcending past that, and starts playing the happy housewife moving on from her (their) problems and trying to act all normal and happy, that's going too far.
No you stupid b***h. You run to smoke pot and frick your problems away, fine. You leave everything behind, fine. You come back to get some money, fine. But now you think you're going to be a chipper happy go lucky fricking wanderer? No. You are a fricking vile c**t, and i am never going to let you forget that.
The most important part of this, is that Tony is completely in the right for doing this. Janice has been running from her problems all her life and ignoring the consequences of all that. HAPPO is the best example of this. Well you can run, but Tony won't let you hide.

      Anonymous

If that's the case he should have taken her to task and confronted her about her son. Not went out of his way to upset her but to tell her he expects the improvements to continue and to not forget there is always more work to do.
They are both vile, either way.

My take on that scene, was that Janice was gloating about how she's changed. Not overtly, but just laying it on thick while Tony was around. And then acting like it was no big deal.

If you have siblings, you'll see them humble brag and ya gotta remind them who they really are.

Chase made him an butthole because he hated how positive he was seen by many of the Sopranos fans. That's why Tony is burning down all bridges in the last season, so that he'd be irredeemable in the audience's eye.

everyone's is just such a c**t and it's bizarre how all these fat greaseballs commit crimes in broad daylight and nothing happens

christopher being some tough guy that kicks anyone's ass is laughable now. never caught it before.

      >christopher being some tough guy that kicks anyone's ass is laughable now. never caught it before.
I still very much liked the series after rewatching it but I do agree that most of the made guys were very unconvincing as physically powerful enforcers. Only really Furio and Paulie seemed believably able to beat people up (though Tony Sircio was still too old for it by season 6). I think the most egregious example with Christopher was him knocking out a 6 foot black guy https://youtu.be/eKXf5TFyd6g?si=-6HzvWaE5zhLOR_e
It could’ve been furthered as a plot point about the mobs decline that most of their guys were too old. They could’ve lost ground to a younger and more violent crew like the Russian mafia. I think the Italians were portrayed as unrealistically dominant even though they have IRL been gradually pushed out by other gangs.
      >it's bizarre how all these fat greaseballs commit crimes in broad daylight and nothing happens
That was quite jarring in the first season too, especially as they make a point in the later seasons about how they have to be careful about constant surveillance from the feds. Paulie however still constantly commits assaults or murders in the open and never gets picked up for it.

      >all these fat greaseballs commit crimes in broad daylight and nothing happens
Yeah it's dumb. When you rewatch the show it's obvious the writers just let the cops/feds appear whenever its convenient
