kino, did you get filtered?
Idk. It felt a little small to me. What else was that ending besides an anti-climax?
McDonald’s arthouse version of 60s/70s thrillers made to be thrown down little piggies gullets like
who probably like a24 movies
Filtered. If you're stuck in the 20 secs or so where the guy goes to a McDonald's booth then eats a sandwich you are quite simply in a state of midwit shallowness that isn't worth disputing any further
>who probably like a24 movies
what are good movies to you?
He's just baiting
>le he just like me autistic psychopath
One of this year's best movies with a perfect balance of genre tropes, twists and observational wit
Tropes such as..?
Twists such as..?
Observational with such a-
OK there was a bit of that. I think a fair bit of what whatshisname says is wrong though. Wrong, and pompous. He also has quite a bit of luck on his side. Is he supposed to be an ass? He's kind of a shithead reddit atheist, like MOST of the time.
But I'm asking sincerely on the first two points. Which tropes? And what were the twists? I didn't really find anything to be a "twist" except maybe tilda swinton's little deal.
Just about had a fit when she told the NML joke.
>tropes
Lonely contract killer
Revenge
>twists
Fallible on multiple occasions where he had to adapt/improvise
Spares the last victim for reasons which filtered some viewers but are perfectly sound as a longterm strategy
Utterly unsentimental worldview, which apparently has riled some viewers expecting a type of good guy/antihero rationalization for his actions
Fair enough
>Fallible on multiple occasions where he had to adapt/improvise
I enjoyed this
>Spares the last victim for reasons which filtered some viewers but are perfectly sound as a longterm strategy
Perfectly sound, sure. Very cynical ending. Not a bad thing, but it almost felt unearned. It was so understated.
>Utterly unsentimental worldview, which apparently has riled some viewers expecting a type of good guy/antihero rationalization for his actions
Fine with all this. But it made his character less compelling. He barely anguished at all. Aside from getting his ass kicked, he had an unimaginably easy time. Are we supposed to believe he's so Uber competent? That everyone else was so utterly hapless?
I guess that's kind of cool. Just felt lukewarm. No fricking passion hardly anywhere in the film. Typical for Fincher I guess, but..
Just another handsome thing to quickly forget, unfortunately
*languished
The character was utterly blackpilled but not dejected. He did yoga etc because he had his sweetheart waiting for him insteadof being self-destructive, alcoholic or something such cliche.
As for being competent, that was to he expected, but wasn't a super duper infallible type.
The key tonthe movie--most movies really-- is to connect the dots as fas as characters' motives go instead of expecting exposition or trite ethics
*some such
His motives weren't the problem, they were fairly obvious
The problem was his lack of struggle. He struggled physically with Florida man, sure.
The only humanity I found in him was when speaking to Tilda, and the film was a bit on the nose about it. Maybe there was slight hesitation with the red head lady. And I suppose he did get distracted by the stripper.
But truthfully, I didn't sense any pain within him. Nothing substantial. Just boredom. His most constant emotional state some sort of annoyed tedium
That's fine but it made his character not easy to like. He's wienery, snide, classic detached gen x ethos whatever. His character never gets turned on its head. It left me craving something. I like Tilda digging into him for his failure. I feel like the film needed more of that. Other characters should have done that. I wanted to he his motivation be truly put to the test. Throughout the film he barely breaks a (proverbial) sweat.
I do appreciate how the film avoided the self destructive trope though. I liked his professionalism.
>lack of struggle
He tries to avoid physical confrontation bc he's a contract killer, not an ufc fighter.
As for humanity, he eschews it as cheap, often misleading sentimentality.
He doesn't emote bc that's the silent type, and when he does so it's minimal. During allowing his interactions he's judging ppl and considering alternatives.
He never hesitated with either Tilda or the secretary: he merely gave the latter the benefit of an unexpected, sudden death that'd seem like an accident for insurance purposes as she asked.
Being unemotional is often a great advantage. He silently repeats time and again the objective guidelines for his actions, the writer/director are not depicting him so as to become a cardboard anti-hero but a self-interested male with a protective side to the one who mattered to him
I obviously meant lack of struggle emotionally.
I'm not saying your reply is wrong at all. I am saying however his depiction makes the film less appealing.
It'd be like making a film about an exceptionally successful serial killer - - it would ultimately be banal.
Funny you should mention that because as mentioned by
, it's notably similar to an existing movie with the premise you mentioned, which is even better
I don't know anything about the film and I'm sure (in comptetent hands) the result could be compelling, but that wasn't my point.
A movie about an unfeeling guy unemotionally carrying out tasks isn't all that interesting. Fincher is stylish enough that it's fun to look at. But I wasn't particularly moved. I for the most part didn't feel much tension. There were no gut punches, there was no elation, no fear. It was booooring.
Oh. You're one of those. Fine.
second line of dialogue in the movie:
>If you are unable to endure boredom, this work is not for you.
Oh so the movie is work then?
Lol, not the clever own you thought it would be. Yeah I don't watch movies so I can feel the edgy tediousness of assassin work. How about the opening sequence shot in real time? Sound like fun to you?
You get the movie that's made, not the one you expect. The fanservice/fast-food mindset is detrimental to fully experiencing a film
Anon.... lol.
You get the movie that's made and YOU get the opinion I form. What the frick is your problem.
And he told you your opinion sucks, lol
You sure aren't too bright, are you?
Rules for thee, but not for me
lmao, dipshit
Ok? You can disagree with me all you want, that's your prerogative. I'm not trying to convince you it's bad, just stating why I didn't love it. I didn't hate it either.
Dont be so childish.
>Ok? You can disagree with me all you want
That's what we've been doing
You sure don't seem to be taking it well, lmao
We?
And I'm sorry, do I seem offended? No one here is arguing m8, we're having a discussion. Maybe you should sit at the kids table for this one.
Widdle baby's feewings hurt, awww
leftoid psycho
>IT WASN'T MADE FOR YOU!!
This moron surely cannot be serious
It definitely wasn't made for a fixed, sheepish midwit and narrow-minded audience which you seem to represent.
Can somebody explain what this poster means? I'm still baffled by his opinion. Are you not supposed to critique anything now?
It's the Paris scene right after the shot when he flees
What
One important and fresh aspect of his performance is that it isn't stereotypical in any way: neither bumbling Inspector Clouseau nor flawless James Bond. Also the fact that for once it isn't an oh so tormented protagonist but a guy who does what he does and knows what he wants to do without hesitation.
I liked those aspects of the character. Still, something just felt missing.
Dexter is a great TV show.
>Are we supposed to believe he's so Uber competent?
Whole plot of the movie hinges on him irreparably fricking up an assignment
Then he lets his gf get nearly beat to death over that mistake
He kills his old boss practically by accident
Gets the shit kicked out of him cause he failed to get the drop on a guy then almost gets eaten by that guys pitbull cause he can't measure sleeping pills properly
I loved the movie precisely because the guy was so bad at his job. Also made it easier to believe everybody else in his field would be just as bad as theirs, which they all were. It was a real boob parade
I mean yes you could say he was bad at his job for those two critical errors
But then what. He's like James fricking bond? With a thousand aliases? Able to move freely completely undetected? Never once attracts the attention of authorities? Nothing? Nada? Zip?
I'm no cop, no detective, so perhaps all of that really is plausible. But that to the detriment of the narrative, frankly.
>With a thousand aliases?
Every one of his aliases was a dad from a sitcom LMFAO
Any TSA official who wasn't a complete moron would've noticed something was wrong
One of his alias was fricking Archie Bunker for chrissake lol
George Jefferson, Cunningham, yeh. Idk. My suspension of disbelief was being stretched.
>any TSA official who wasn't a complete moron would've noticed something was wrong
you haven't been to an airport have you? tsa agents are mostly moronic Black folk who don't give a shit
It seemed to reflect a more realistic approach rather than surgically precise kills. He was competent but not above making mistakes and miscalculation here and there
A documentary about me
A pale immitation of a better movie that midwits here like to pretend is deep because this is about as deep as they can go. Fincher hasn't made anything worth watching since he became Netflix's gimp.
What’s the better movie? The one from 1989?
Anyone seen the Korean version ?
I prefer the Chinese version.
Goddamn, do I love that movie.
Haven't seen it in years. Might do A Better Tomorrow 1+2, The Killer marathon.
I prefer the Polish version
>poorly written nihilistic voiceover
>in a Hackvid Hackner movie
>again
I wish these old people would just frick off. I don't care to ever again watch anything involving Fassbinder or Fincher. They're boring.
There's always the MCU for you Timmy
You can my suck my wiener all night long.
Leave that to your boyfriend
Odd poster
Trash for women.
The House That Jack Built: Fincher Edition
loved it
fincher tried to copy drive. fassbender is cooler than gossling but the music is gay. sorry but listening to the smiths is not badass.
>midwits thinking this is some high art intellectual film people can get filtered by
its a shitty commercial genre movie and youre all easily impressed pajeets. get some taste or keep being cattle
I don't know.
Looks like Le Samouraï.
It's kind of a parody of it, a very dry one. Both are french
>it's buzzword hours
Oookay. Well, have fun gentlemen. Gonna watch Eraserhead now. Hopefully this thread is still up when I'm done. good luck everyone.
>widdle baby blah blah
>seething wojak with nonchalant mask on.jpg
>t. got spanked hard
Movie of the year.
I'm back, gentlemen! Thanks for keeping the seat warm.

i dont know why i bother coming to this place anymore
>The Knller
What did Fincher mean by this?
the "i" is supposed to look like a person that's been shot
>Times you acted like THE K_ller
His character is so dull. There's no way to even meme it.
I expected this to be stylish but not very good and I was right
kino. I'm already itching to rewatch it. It's weirdly entertaining.
>What the hell was that?
Kino. You wouldn't recognise it if you're stuck on a diet of capeshit/pseud trash
Kino.
Kek i'm rewatching right now actually, pure kino
