What are you talking about? They explain it as a mutually beneficial partnership where the Fairy Godmother cures Fiona's curse while setting her son up with her. Fairy godmother gains power through Harold's kingdom and Harold's daughter is free of a curse. It's very straightforward.

        >Well, let’s not just sit here with our tummies rumbling. Everybody dig in
        >Don’t mind if I do, Lillian
The way they reveal the queen's name is very clumsy.

do you think the witch fiona claims gave her the ogre curse was actually fairy godmother in disguise?

            Anonymous

I mean there's a chance she doesn't even know that much, I always assumed she was cursed from Birth and it was all a lie that her parents fed her to keep up the charade.

            Anonymous

More likely she was cursed by Birth given Harold was also cursed. The Witch story was probably just something her parents told her.

How wasn't it explained? Harold used a service by fairy godmother and then didn't pay her price for it.

        Not him:
Fionna's and Charming role in the story is straightfoward and I don't get what the other anon doesn't get.
That said the one part I'm still not sure about is did the Fairy Grandmother also help Harold find the princess that would end up being his fututre wife and make him King?

Was the whole situation a mob boss scenerio of "I'll help you but someday I'll comeback and ask a favor in return"?

          Anonymous

Pretty much. She threatens to take back his own "Happily Ever After" if he doesn't make sure Fiona marries Charming, so clearly they've had their own dealings in the past from back when he was just another frog in the swamp.

Okay, that makes the "get what's owed" line more powerful.
It could've just meant "I'm the best, I deserve this" but now it has an actual double meaning of "Hey fricko, it's time to pay back your dues".

These background characters don't look uncanny to you? Their plastic skin shaders make them look more like mannequins than people and because they lack the exaggerated features Farquod and Fiona have they end up looking way less appealing.

She had over 20 years to get Prince Charming to the rescue, seriously what was she waiting for? Was it just for him to be ready to settle down? Because honestly that's on him if it's the case.

Yeah the blame is on him, but think about it from Charming's POV. Why rush to something he thought was guaranteed when he can enjoy himself with other adventures and other girls at his leisure?

    >"When I was a little girl, a witch cast a spell on me. Every night I become this. This horrible, ugly beast! I was placed in a tower to await the day my true love would rescue me"
That witch is not mentioned again after the first film. Also, notice how Fiona doesn't say that it was her parents who locked her in the tower or that she was waiting specifically for Charming to rescue her. They improvised the plot of the sequel.

One of the very few flaws Shrek 1 has is that the princess from the opening book doesn't resemble Fiona. Would've been better if she did.

We are shown what she looks like before the tower rescue scene, so there's no reason to have a different design for the opening book.

It's weird how Dreamworks didn't have a woman be one of the directors on this sequels, given one of their most notable traits is that they had woman directors, unlike Disney and Pixar (The Prince of Egypt, Shrek 1, Spirit and Shark Tale all had a woman among the directors). That would've given a more positive public image to a sequel which wasn't really needed.
