The movie was done the way it was done because it was supposed to launch James career as a director.
It was supposed to show that he could make a movie "the hollywood way", with professional actors and crew and permits, etc.
Then the movie took too long to make and James had a kid and the hollywood dream died.
Now he tapes the studio lights to his ceiling to save time (somehow this makes sense).

I would envy James if he didn't utterly fail and give up and if he wasn't shackled to a woke harpy who tells him his friend circle/work group is a "caucasian sausage fest". I envied him 10 years ago. I'd kill myself if I were him today. His life seems absolutely fricking miserable and the only thing he seems to enjoy is nothing but fodder for an audience of redditors to mock and make memes out of.
Not really about “envying” James, it’s the fact that as you said he’s “miserable” and “chained to a harpy” yet he’s still probably accomplished more comparatively than you and is still beloved for his old work.
Depends on how you measure accomplishments. Is he more famous? Absolutely. But that isn't a goal for me, I don't want to be famous. It sounds incredibly annoying to have millions of homosexuals on the internet nitpicking your personal life. And he isn't even rich enough to justify the aggravation.
Past accomplishments do not make for present day happiness. He did do something great, but you completely miss that most anons here wanted better for him. They wanted to see him grow more and succeed. Not plateau and stagnate.

His wife was the executive producer. If she did her job she would have realized that filming in LA was far too expensive for their budget.
