Ill always remember doing this with my dad every other weekend (parents were divorced) and one time he got me some m&ms from there and told me to not "eat them all in one sitting", and I, being very much an autist, was confused by this and couldn't understand what a 'sitting' is while he became exasperated trying to explain it to me.
They get 2 movies, 1 that's more palatable for kids and 1 more for adults, and i get 1 or 2 video games. I watch both movies and play both video games. life is comfy.
>They get 2 movies, 1 that's more palatable for kids and 1 more for adults
This is how my family did it to. Get a kids movie for the whole family to watch on Friday and some other movie my parents want to watch that they'd watch any other night after my sister and I went to bed.
I'm not quite sure what was the last, but I do remember renting Rat Race (2001) some time after its release and me and my parents thought it was so funny
That's pretty much my last memory of renting
Unless we could wipe the memory of the convenience of torrenting / streaming, we can't possibly go back. If Blockbuster came back today it would be like a fun little novelty for a few weeks and sadly fade right back into bankruptcy.
The Blockbuster was on the other side of the city I lived in and my family just went to the local mom and pop place, so I only went there when I was at my friend's house. The last time I went to Blockbuster with my friend, we rented pic related which had just came out.
Gran Torino. I had to watch it and write a paper on it for a Freshman English class. Was like a half-hour drive both ways to get to the Blockbuster that actually had it in stock even though there was one that was like 10 minutes from the university.
>the year is 2023, it's friday, dad sent a text saying he ordered grubhub and it just arrived, netflix, amazon, and hulu just updated their libraries for the next month, all your subscriptions on youtube just uploaded new videos. life is good
I don’t remember what the last movie I rented from blockbuster was, but the last one I probably bought on VHS there was prisoner of azkaban. I also remember them selling their N64 games, I only wish I had gotten conker there instead of mario 64
funny how zoomers are so nostalgic over this shit, it was such a pain in the ass to go to the store and look at and rent shit, you had to rewind or you'd get fined, if themovie was popular you might only get a day or two to rent it...and so on.
I remember life from the start of VHS rentals, through DVD rentals and onward till rental places died. One thing I can say for sure is Blockbuster sucked balls. They were the worst rental corporation with terrible policies, poor selection and shitty customer service to boot. Also the interiors of the stors were filthy and gross. It smelled like body odor and ass in them. Its like they never ventilated the air or something. Whenever I rented from them towards the end it was so bad I felt like taking a shower afterwards.
Only millenial morons that grew up in the suburbs whose family's did their shopping at strip malls look back on Blockbuster fondly. That is why all the Blockbuster threads are childish nostalgia threads. They are posted and bumped by persons looking back on their childhood. Don't be fooled. Blockbuster was horrible. Good riddance to the garbage corporation that was too stupid to see the age of digital rentals on their doorstep.
I believe it was Candy (2006) pretty good movie iirc. Mostly I miss the time before the attention economy existed, which was pretty close on the horizon at that point
Yeah cool, your dad rented you a movie to distract you while he got blackout drunk and got a reverse mortgage and left you in debt when he died. Life wasn’t good we were just ignorant.
>be 9 >ask mom to go to Blockbuster so I can rent a video game >mom works two jobs to make ends me to take care of me and my little sister >"Anon, I don't think I can afford it" >"Please mom!!" >"ok anon..." >go into Blockbuster and go to video game section >see that they have game boy rentals with pokemon yellow >didn't know it cost more to rent, it was usually 5 dollars a game but this was 20 bucks >goes to the counter with mom to rent >"That'll be 20 dollars" >"Anon why is it so expensive?" >"I don't know!" >mom pays for it anyway >get really excited to play >go home and start playing >get bored and stop playing and play outside with friends and never played it until I had to return it
Fricking hate myself for this to this day.. She thought I was playing it every day until we had to return it, but I wasn't... Frick...I'm sorry mom...
>paid 20 dollars to rent a fricking gameboy game when he could have just bought one for 30
What the frick was wrong with you? What the frick was wrong with that Blockbuster?
The video rental store near where I grew up at one point had a huge thing for showcasing one of the Chucky movies. They had a section of the store meant for movies with gore and so on but they put the Chucky thing right at the entrance near some kids movies. I don't know how old I was back then but it scared the shit out of me and was probably the cause of a great number of nightmares I had as a kid. So I don't miss video rental stores.
frick, man, that was like 20 years ago. the last movie i can remember renting was maybe sin city in probably 2006 or 2007 as part of a rent 6 movies for $8 or something. started my life as a pirate pretty soon after.
Mad Money (2008). I was eleven. liked it.
We had a monster movie weekend. Rented Lake Placid, Deep Blue Sea and another one i can't remember. good times
Based. Joe Bob Briggs monstervision would come on Saturday nights. Better times m8. Black boxes were great also. Had numerous.
this isn't her dad and they're in the adult film section
Its Mexico who cares.
>Adult film section
>Clearly a bunch of Disney movies
Stop it Anon
In this day and age I would never show children a Disney movie, they belong right next to porn at this point. Frick Pedosney.

wholesome
i mostly rented video games from the local rental place
not sure if that was a common thing, globally
They get 2 movies, 1 that's more palatable for kids and 1 more for adults, and i get 1 or 2 video games. I watch both movies and play both video games. life is comfy.

I get stuff from the library all the time.

I only ever rented from Hollywood Video.
Blockbuster had a garbage selection of movies and games.
i rented like seasons 1-3 of BSG
Why are the signs in Unamerican?
what's the zoomer equivalent of this?
>the year is 2023, it's friday, dad sent a text saying he ordered grubhub and it just arrived, netflix, amazon, and hulu just updated their libraries for the next month, all your subscriptions on youtube just uploaded new videos. life is good
the aspect they're nostalgic for is spending real time with parents
I don’t remember what the last movie I rented from blockbuster was, but the last one I probably bought on VHS there was prisoner of azkaban. I also remember them selling their N64 games, I only wish I had gotten conker there instead of mario 64
>with your dad
Never happened
Nothing. We had video rentals in the supermarket instead.

The last movie I rented was paranormal activity. When the video store shut down, they sold all of thier movies. I bought Prometheus

I was a poorgay growing up and never got to do blockbuster. We just rented free videos from the library instead.

What the frick was wrong with you? What the frick was wrong with that Blockbuster?
>be me
>10 years old
>see a ton of movies for adults on the shelves
>think one day I will watch them all
>be me now
>could watch it all for free but don't give a single frick about any of that slop and would rather post on Cinemaphile
Blockbuster was shit and everyone was glad when it was replaced with mail in Netflix at the time
I liked Hollywood Videos better
im a zoomer and i did this every weekend up until 2012 when our local blockbuster closed, i watched every iconic 80s movie by the time i was 9
