I agree with
but it also gave us proper moral push-back to elicit some of the best scenes out of gandolifni like: >pilot "I came in at the end" >"you motherfrickers" >"this is all their is?"
Lithium? Like batteries? I don't eat batteries dickhead. Am I wrong? Am I? You know I'm not. All women have are their holes. That's 90% of their value.
Melfi represents the human need for a proper arc and morality going up against the brick wall that is the Sopranos universe. Tony cannot and will not change. No one in the show can change except for the worse. Eventually Melfi realizes the futility. In any other show she would trigger a sappy redemption arc in her patient.
Just as Chase set ambiguity on center stage in the pilot, this relationship was another prime example of many ways to discern his views on therapy and the ability to overcome tendencies modled by our environment. Do you think Chase thinks a character like Eric Scatino or Chris could every truly get over their baggage and predisposition, even in a perfect world? Many times, characters on the show have alluded to "you are what you are".
But then again, Tony's younger sister was able to remove herself from what was clearly a bad environment, and she was able to overcome what inevitable overtook Janice and Tony.
she wasn't a sociopath so had no interest in the games. janice, tony, livia enjoy and thrive from misery, conflict and the duality of being the king and the victim.
> Many times, characters on the show have alluded to "you are what you are".
Not trying to sound rude or anything, but is there even any debate to this? It feels like Chase drives this point home, imo he makes a concerted effort to have characters show their hypocrisies
>No one in the show can change except for the worse.
Janice, Bobby and Ralph on the episode where his son gets critically wounded.
Although you can argue the second got shortly dropped off after since Tony whacks him
Oh and Hunter (meado's friend from S1) seems to be doing okay, away from drugs and in her first year of medical school just around the time where Meadow abandons her inspirations of being a doctor yet she's absent from a good chunk of the show so I am not so sure if that counts.
Maybe a person shouldnt be defined by shit that happened to them they couldnt control. Her deciding not to use Tony to avenge her was also the moment she got over it.
The point was that she didn't go to Tony for help because it would've shown approval for his violent methods. She preferred the moral high ground to seeking vengeance. Asking Tony to sort it out for her would've meant staining her soul in a way that the attacker never could have, and she would've had to live with knowing a man's life had been taken in her name. It didn't need to be a recurring plot point.
>If this is really to happen is someone entitled to a refund?
No >What are the chances of a settlement if they sued?
Lol no judge in the world would hear that case
You can't just sue someone because you think they gave you bad advice. Unless they're a lawyer and it's in writing. Also therapists have indemnity clauses in their contracts.
>You can't just sue someone because you think they gave you bad advice.
So is that all therapy is? Advice? >Also therapists have indemnity clauses in their contracts.
What contract did Tony sign? He attempted to leave multiple times and each time she brought him back on the assurance she could help him.

Depends on what you mean by therapy. Some of them can prescribe you mediation but generally will not unless you have a severe problem. The frick did you think therapy was? It's a place to talk shit out.

>So is that all therapy is? Advice?
Not even advice. It goes like:
-So how do you feel?
-I have A, B and C problems and I don't know what to do
-Well what do you -feel- you should do?
Shrinks and chiropractors are generally scams. Many years and many tens of thousands of dollars later and you're rarely any better than when you started.
That being said, you do need to work on yourself outside of the sessions. Tony clearly did not. He wanted someone else to do the work of fixing him.
The Sopranos was supposed to be a show about the relationship between a mob boss and his therapist, piggybacking off the success of the similar-themed film Analyse This with Billy Crystal and Robert Deniro, released earlier that same year.
Of course the first season ended up being so successful that HBO commissioned more, so David Chase had to expand the show and make it all about the mafia
To explain certain concepts and character traits directly to morons like you.
As for actually advancing the plot, Tony used her on a few occasions indirectly to get advice on how to handle certain problems.

Friendly reminder if women didn't have wet holes no one would care about them
discontinue the lithium

put me in the screencap of this thread with Ted Bundy 2.0
>never will touch a woman's wet hole
>still obssesses about them
ok moron
Friendly reminder that they have breasts aswell.

Indeed. The Meadow and Tony early morning drunken conversation comes to mind when they say it again, verbatim.

>Gets raped
>Never brought up again
Unironically coombait
Kek. I thought this was weird as shit. She acted like she didn't really even mind later on. Really weird plot point

I swear it was a black guy in the first scene then they swapped it with an italian dude. or am i tripping
I thought it was a Mexican but it turns out his name is "Jesus Rossi" so I guess a Wopspic. Which is believable in Muttmerica.
>takes your money for 6 years
>actually there's nothing I can do for you lol bye

Why not? And a settlement often occurs before it goes trial.

it do be like though

She had to get raped and come to terms with being raped and then just talk to Tony about his life I guess.
to remind boomers about Goodfellas.
The entire show was pitched as Analyze This: The TV Show.
She's there to show that you don't have to be a criminal like Tony to be a detrimental element in society.
sexo
Why did she let the rapist go and rape more women when she could have easily got him whacked ? Never understood that
She represents the HBO preaching quota

>Analyse This
Analyze This? That's a frickin' comedy!
She had no right being so fricking sexy in those suits
The therapy sessions are my favourite scenes of the show, I think she and Tony play off of each other really well
