Everyone will say the one with Skinner being a fake, but that episode isn't even that bad. It's still written by mostly decent people, it was memorable jokes, etc. It went to shit way later.
Probably went it became digital. The real answer is: The Tony Hawk episode.
>Everyone will say the one with Skinner being a fake, but that episode isn't even that bad. It's still written by mostly decent people, it was memorable jokes, etc. It went to shit way later.
No it was a horribly unfunny episode and embarrassing to watch
alt.tv.simpsons autists were angry at the episode ruining some moronic secondary cartoon character's canon. homosexuals on the internet are still regurgitating the same opinion almost 30 years later because they can't form their own opinions.
funny how "IT'S A REGURGITATED OPINION" gets regurgitated every time someone is critical of that episode, maybe you're the one with autism
It's a terrible fricking episode, canon or no canon, it was the sign that something was terribly wrong. Make as many fantasy strawmen as you want it's a PIECE OF SHIT episode
>have genuine opinion >HURR YOU STOLE THAT OPINION YOU HAVE NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT BECAUSE I SAW A YOUTUBER SAY THAT ONCE SO OBVIOUSLY YOU COPIED HIM DURR
yes

Oh, I agree. I like the episode outside of the writers cementing the impermanence of characters or I guess more specifically that what seemed like cemented characterization could be totally nullified on a whim. They went too far.
>What was the season/episode where it turned shit?
I'd say How I Spent My Summer vacation in S14. There are still multiple good episodes in seasons 13 & 14 even if the ration of good to bad has gone off a cliff, but I hated that episode with all those boring old musicians that the writers presumably wanted to spend time with and there's no compensation afterwards. Well I quite like I'm Spelling As Fast As I Can but other than that.....
i dont see the issue with the skinner replacement. skinner as we knew him had always been skinner, so nothing had actually changed. hed just been someone else once upon a time before the show even started. had they revealed skinner had been replaced duyring like season 5 or something, i could see an issue with that
iirc they replaced fat tony at one point. he died, and his brother got fat and came to resemble him and take up the mantle. thatd bug me (if i still cared by that point), knowing that any fat tony appearance past a certain episode was actually a different guy
It does, it just stipulates that anyone who mentions it will be punished by death. The real icing on the cake is that some zombie Simpsons writer thought it'd be funny for Lisa to casually mention it to Skinner without paying the ultimate price, which would have been a fine, abrupt send off to the series - that the family would have to deal with the justice meted out to Lisa due likely to her ignorance of the law and so be it.
how does it though? the man you knew as skinner never changed, and he continued to not change. all that got revealed was that prior to the show ever beginning, he was someone else
>the man you knew as skinner never changed
You are right in the sense that this one episode didn't cause them to change they way he was written then or into the future, but it is now cause to analyze all the things we've seen Skinner do in earlier episodes. All the characterization that happened before that point is needlessly muddied and absolutely no gain other than a subversion that absolutely, positively no Simpsons fan actually likes. It set a precedent that the whims of a (shitty) Simpsons writer trumps previous characterization. Like, for instance, Homer listened to classic rock and not fricking 2000s emo, and if you feel the latter is true, then you're a complete and utter lost cause.

For me it's the one where they go to the Super Bowl and Rupert Murdoch makes a cameo. I know there were cameos in previous episodes but that one always felt egregious for some reason and left a bad taste in the mouth. They just got worse from there
It used to be they'd nestle a celebrity guest voice in the episode or that the guest appearances were arguably fun. I think there's a big difference between Krusty explaining to the Red Hot Chili Peppers that they need to adjust the lyrics to Give it Away Now or when Bob Newhart speaks at his, Krusty's, faked funeral, versus, for just one example of umpteen, the episode centering around the celebrity lives of Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger. It is also possible that they were just genuinely played out as a whole after a while and, more realistically, some combination of being both played out and hamfisted.
If you really want to cut your series watch off at the movie, this is the season that coincided with it. It's the last of the consistently scheduled dvd boxsets. It's just before the voice actors revealed they were sick of the show and wanted five more mansions each.
I always considered the episode with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger (S10E05) to be the symbolic turning point of the show, but objectively speaking, it happened right after S09 ended. S10E01 is a painfully obvious drop in quality, and the show never recovered after that.
Looking back eps like the super bowl were fricking bad except for a couple of jokes and it seemed like they just wanted to put every single reference they could. Old simpsons referenced things but much more subtle and it was a riot from second one.
Of course later seasons are worse but superbowl era was nowhere as good as the oldest seasons
That and I just can't bring myself to like The Springfield Files. It feels like the first blatant advertisement episode. Like some Fox exec was telling the showrunners to include another popular Fox show to increase ratings for both. Also if Mulder and Scully could visit other TV shows, why not ones with real aliens?
Season 9/The Principal and the Pauper
why
It just did
>Everyone will say the one with Skinner being a fake, but that episode isn't even that bad. It's still written by mostly decent people, it was memorable jokes, etc. It went to shit way later.
No it was a horribly unfunny episode and embarrassing to watch
It destroyed Skinners character and signaled a long line of poor writing.
If you dont get it, you are just mentally cucked.
Shit? IDK but it started to turn sour around season 8

hated for literally no reason
people hate it because it sucks dick

concession accepted
You're upset
>have genuine opinion
>HURR YOU STOLE THAT OPINION YOU HAVE NO ORIGINAL THOUGHT BECAUSE I SAW A YOUTUBER SAY THAT ONCE SO OBVIOUSLY YOU COPIED HIM DURR
yes
It's not a genuine opinion though
ironic coming from a contrarian
I don't have strong feelings one way or another
Just like Israel
This is when the show became uneven. There's still some decent episodes here and there
this is when it died.
Everyone will say the one with Skinner being a fake, but that episode isn't even that bad. It's still written by mostly decent people, it was memorable jokes, etc. It went to shit way later.

Agree.. it's just another false opinion people believe because it's became popular
Yes, of course. No one was angry at mike scully for that whole season. Let me guess, it was because some eceleb, right?
>it was memorable jokes
such as
The torture bit, the copy of Swank, jasper in the car...
this, also when Skinner in the army says what his dream is
it's a decent episode.
Oh, I agree. I like the episode outside of the writers cementing the impermanence of characters or I guess more specifically that what seemed like cemented characterization could be totally nullified on a whim. They went too far.
When Maude died. That episode wasn't shit by itself but it wasn't funny and it fits awkwardly in the loose canon of the show.
>When Maude died. That episode wasn't shit by itself but it wasn't funny and it fits awkwardly in the loose canon of the show.
/thread
It was never good
That's just a cope anon
after season 11 episode 5 the show just wasn't the same
the lemon tree episode was the only good one.
for me it was season 12 ep 14 new kids on the blecch
i was hating on it for a while before that, but that's where i had enough
this show is just yellow family guy and it sucks
family guy actually has jokes in its episodes
Season 13
I have a weird autistic obsession with the first season. It's just so comfy and and little off compared to the rest of the show. Am I the only one ?
Fellow time capsule enjoyer. I also watch retro ad compilations on YouTube.
I actually really love the first season. krusty gets busted is my favorite simpsons episode
Season 8 is the last great season. Season 10 was the final good season. Season 11 and on went downhill exponentially fast.
I really like season 9. things are one fire but they are still pumping out dope episodes
>What was the season/episode where it turned shit?

9. the only episode in that season that I actually like is the new york one and that's just a holdover from season 8.
Bart Carny is an amazing episode.
"You see, the trick here is the rings won't fit over the good prizes."
"We'll see about that. Give me 10 rings!"

>i dont see the issue with the skinner replacement
it purposely breaks continuity to mock loregays
no it doesnt you fricking midwit
it does, that's the point of several season 8/9 episodes
how does it though? the man you knew as skinner never changed, and he continued to not change. all that got revealed was that prior to the show ever beginning, he was someone else

it "ruined" skinner's characterization and buckbroke loreBlack folk

I'm watching every episode on Disney+ right now and in my opinion the quality takes a big drop around season 13 and 14.
There's too many guest appearances at that point.
How many of the older episodes were censored or changed before they were put on disney+
they removed the michael jackson episode entirely
Don't think so. I watched Stark Raving Dad not long ago. I'm in UK though. Could've been removed in other territories.
Lisa Goes Gaga is the end of the show. I’ve heard a few good episodes of the 15 seasons since then.
The movie should’ve been the final farewell.
For me it's the one where they go to the Super Bowl and Rupert Murdoch makes a cameo. I know there were cameos in previous episodes but that one always felt egregious for some reason and left a bad taste in the mouth. They just got worse from there

It can really depend.

I do not remember a single episode of season 18.
I always considered the episode with Alec Baldwin and Kim Basinger (S10E05) to be the symbolic turning point of the show, but objectively speaking, it happened right after S09 ended. S10E01 is a painfully obvious drop in quality, and the show never recovered after that.
I think season 11 is when the show falls off a cliff quality-wise. People b***h about 9 and 10 but they're still solid seasons.
Pretty much this.
I can tolerate up to 12 but after that the show just becomes unwatchable
Looking back eps like the super bowl were fricking bad except for a couple of jokes and it seemed like they just wanted to put every single reference they could. Old simpsons referenced things but much more subtle and it was a riot from second one.

Season 8 was the first bad Treehouse of Horror.
First one I remember being really bad and something was off, was an episode where Moe goes to bartending school
Lady gaga episode
Before that it was trash
If went downhill with the episode when the mother comes back
The simpsons is not the problem
More like the world went to shit, values lost and the satire did the same
season 1, episode 1
Yeah the Tracey Ullman shorts were the best
season 29 is probably the last golden age season
Homerpalooza
Wrong:
turned shit? according to certain youtubers the show is actually good again now in season 45 or whatever we're on now
Season 15 Episode 2: The Principal Wore Pearls.
The Scully era was weak but never overtly bad, Al Jean was the homosexual who actually killed the show.
I agree on this one. This was the end of actual satire and the beginning of virtue signaling for the simpsons.
Season 11 Episode 5 was the high water mark for me
Hurricane Neddy and the Principal and the Pauper both did the exact same thing but people only complain about the latter because it was in Season 9.
somewhere around 9 or 10
